I’ve recently switched my morning routine from a bowl of Raisin Bran to Three strips of Bacon (this is what fits in the air fryer), two Eggs and one slice of Toast.
While it’s strictly anecdotal, my energy level seems better and I don’t get hungry again quite as soon.
I had some Raisin Bran as part of the “free breakfast” in a hotel last week and was surprised about the lingering sugar-ness of the stuff. I usually don’t have things like that and now I know why. That sucrose dump into your body will definitely have energy level swings later in the day.
Honestly the near-expired bars and snacks they sell here will probably be much better for you.
@pmarin non sweetened raisins shouldn’t give you that lingering taste, also add regular bran or oatmeal. The name brand Raisin Bran has really way too much added sugars for whatever reason; I’d almost want to have Lucky Charms.
@billyboyleo Actually that can be the best time of day to get the protein — not before bed. In many countries and occasionally in the U.S., fish and other seafood is also a source of breakfast protein.
@werehatrack@yakkoTDI Except for the slow-speed masticating (careful not to mis-spell that) juicers that you can use for wheat grass and other small greens. they chew and not shred.
For breakfast, I eat breakfast. There are many possible inclusions in that list. Bacon is the only thing I consider to be essential enough that it’s hardly breakfast without it.
I’m nocturnal, so depending on who you are, my first meal of the day could be considered breakfast, but it’s usually something that would be considered dinner based on what’s in it.
I sometimes eat oatmeal, then other times I eat cereal, other times I eat eggs and bacon, other times I eat yogurt and toast, other times eggs and spam,
@chienfou@joe645 Funny you mention this. I had some SPAM today and I haven’t for several years. I bought a big pack at Costco a few years ago (pre-Covid era) and I’m in an occasional residence (long story) where I have some groceries in a cabinet (note: not a bunker).
Fried-up it was not that bad. though the low-sodium version it still seemed salty. My wife remembered that when we were in Hawaii many years ago, at convenience stores you could buy the Japanese-style triangular rice snacks made with Spam. Good times.
I need to eat olive oil too keep my liver happy. I find the easiest way to do that is to have toast (sourdough) with olive oil and salt and pepper. I get my tablespoon of it daily with it also tasting pretty good.
@Fuzzalini Yup I use olive oil in nearly everything, including on toast. My father was from the Mediterranean and I just grew up that way. Friends/relatives are alarmed when I say I don’t want butter on my bread; I’ll use olive oil. But some have rancid oil that has sat out for years because they never use it — no wonder they don’t like olive oil!
I DO use butter occasionally, and cooking with a butter/oil mix is good too. Actually adds a lot of flavor and complexity. Get at least the mid-grade or better olive oils, not the bulk-plastic jug stuff. You can get ridiculous expensive oils for $20-$50/btl and can learn about them and use with good bread, vegetables, or other foods, but you don’t need to go that extreme just for normal use.
Thanks to my Griddler, bacon to get things started, and while the English muffin toasts to perfection, add an egg to the grill, and eventually a perfect breakfast sandwich.
Sometimes it is waffles instead, again thanks to the Griddler.
Almost missed my morning meal today. Too much work piled up yesterday that I went to bed to get some more sleep… except I really needed even more sleep. Grabbed a leftover Little Secrets not-Snickers bar and whatever was left in my milk jug and ran out the door. If there was anyone waiting for the bus on an early Sunday morning, they might have found it odd seeing a grown-up drinking right out of a milk jug.
As long as breakfast is considered the first meal of the day I do.
@yakkoTDI
That… exactly
@chienfou @yakkoTDI And a third for that notion.
@chienfou @phendrick @yakkoTDI a third breakfast? Isn’t that brunch?
Usually once a week with a group of buddies. Good way to start off the weekend.
Eggies
@Cerridwyn Do those come from chickies?
@Lynnerizer yes
@Cerridwyn @Lynnerizer Don’t ask how.
@Cerridwyn @Lynnerizer @werehatrack They just fire the birth cannon.

@pakopako @pmarin Regular oatmeal is also way cheaper than the 60% sugar crap.
Almost always have coffee by an hour or two before noon. The rest might or not follow any time soon after that.
I don’t like eating breakfast, but I’m supposed to because I’m diabetic. I usually just have one of those little meal replacement shakes.
Steak and eggs!
@billyboyleo Actually that can be the best time of day to get the protein — not before bed. In many countries and occasionally in the U.S., fish and other seafood is also a source of breakfast protein.
I usually have eggs or toast or both, but not until around 11 or 12.
You ask this question all the time! You already know I drink smoothies for breakfast everyday!
@Star2236 Nothing like having your food pre-chewed.
@yakkoTDI
That is so gross, that’s not what a smoothie is about.
@yakkoTDI Blenders shred, not chew.
@werehatrack @yakkoTDI Except for the slow-speed masticating (careful not to mis-spell that) juicers that you can use for wheat grass and other small greens. they chew and not shred.
@werehatrack My Blendtec does not shred. Pulverize would be a better description than chew though.
What is considered breakfast when you work third shift?

@joe645
I was right there with you until you got to the spam. (Though I would probably add pancakes/waffles / French toast/muffins to the options).

@joe645 @pmarin
They have SPAM at the McDonald’s in Hawaii.

@Fuzzalini Zatar seasoning also works well there

cereal, dry, shaken, not stirred. Coffee, black
Do I eat breakfast most days? Sure. Is there something else I’m supposed to do with it?
Instant oatmeal everyday.
I love my velvet lined rut I live in.
These days, I buy it from here in boxes of 40.

I eat breakfast most mornings, but some mornings I throw it on my neighbour instead.
