So the P3 Advanced and P3 Pro are identical, except for the camera specifications. All other features, functions and specifications are the same. Is it worth an extra $150 for 4K video?
@ruouttaurmind i just googled it and found a bit of controversy that the p3a broadcasts a lower quality live stream than the p3p pver lightbridge. 2mbps vs 10mbps. Apparently the limitation is there because the p3p has a dedicated dsp to handle the live view stream where the p3a does not.
This may or may not be important to you.
@djslack Thanks for the input. A comparison chart on DJI website makes no mention of this difference. Although probably not important to most of us, it definitely is a significant difference in capability.
However, this chart comparing P3 to P4 confirms the difference in specifications.
For those who don't know what difference it makes, slower video bit rates will result in less defined live image view. Let's say you want to connect FPV goggles, or a nice 4K monitor to watch the live video stream broadcast by your Phantom, or record the image. The video stream coming from the Advanced will display more video artifacts and a less clear image than the Pro. Theoretically the Pro will be a 5x better image. Whether the live feed from the Pro will be "artifact free" is unknown to me.
An example of what you might expect (exaggerated somewhat):
In the right half of this image, notice the pixelated grass and fur on the dog. The left half is clear and crisp. (for best results, right-click on the image and select "View Image" for a full screen view)
This is why I'm dissatisfied with my satellite TV provider. Although delivered in 1080i, the transmission compression rate is high, and results in artifacts and pixelated images under certain lighting conditions. Particularly noticeable in darker colors. Exactly why I won't bother upgrading to a 4K TV until broadcasters catch up with the technology.
@ruouttaurmind No, prob not worth the difference. I don't even shoot in 4k. I would have been happy with the advanced.
@djslack I heard the same but can find proof of that.
By the way, max capacity for the mini SD card is 64G. I've been using 128G and it's been working fine. My buddy can't believe it works and he called DJI yesterday and they told him the P3 only supports 64GB (officially). I'll try to record past the 64G so I can see if there is data corruption.
