I was exactly the target demographic when the original series ran. I kept tabs as the different versions came and went because I had younger cousins who all went through their power ranger phase. I thought I was finally done with them, then the reboot movie came along. Still haven’t seen it, but it’s sitting there, on the horizon, an inevitability I must someday face. Not today, but someday.
@simplersimon its nothing like the ones from the 90’s i actually just watched it with my 11 year old son who had never heard of power rangers and he liked it!
When the White Ranger thing was a… thing? I got briefly caught up in Power Rangers stuff. A couple weeks later, once I realized every episode was basically the same, I lost interest.
To the Power Rangers credit, the movie did give us a pretty decent DEVO song on the soundtrack.
Too old but not too old to watch with kid. We were passing a woodyard that does not smell good.
Son, three in back seat, “What’s that odious stench?”
A prodigy, until I watched it with him!
I was already in my mid-teens when it was running, and thought it was cheezy, in a bad way. A few years ago, I watched a couple of episodes of Voltron, which I loved as a kid, and realized it was just as bad. I guess that as a kid I didn’t pay much attention to the cheeziness of a show.
@jqubed I forgot to mention, I think there was some rumor of kids accidentally getting killed trying to reenact fight sequences from the show that at least partially lead to this ban.
I wat he’s the first few episodes as a kid, but not even Kimberly was cute enough to keep my interest for more than a few episodes. Then the red ranger did porn…
I was a little too old for Power Rangers. I always thought it was Mighty Morphine Power Rangers though. Don’t know why I always thought that… A little inappropriate in hindsight.
Today I learned it’s Morphing not Morphine… It’s true what they say, you learn something new every day.
i was of age (+/-10 when it started?) but never watched it…no particular reason that i can recall. just didn’t like that sort of thing.
my parents never set many rules about things i could and couldn’t watch, the only thing i remember is for some reason my mom would not allow me to watch ‘you can’t do that on television.’ so when she left my dad and i would watch it together
There’s no box for “no I didn’t find it interesting”. I didn’t watch much TV as a kid, not because I wasn’t allowed to, but because we spent all of our time outdoors conquering the world. We had no interest in sitting in front of a TV set.
Wasn’t allowed. Mom was of the view that things with magic in them were risky. Hard to tell what mystical interconnections might allow infernal actors, you know, an “open door”, or “influence”.
@InnocuousFarmer My mom held similar views but also strongly believed that the “man of the house” should have final say, and my dad was more apathetic, so we didn’t really have to worry. Of course, after 20 years of abuse and philandering by the “man of the house,” mom’s view changed. On the flip side, she got hooked on Harry Potter, so she’s OK with magic in fiction, “Just don’t practice it in real life. It’s the Devil’s work.”
Too old, but the few times I saw episodes with the nephews or nieces, the utter cheesiness of the villains, and their costumes, and that the (whatever the combined giant mechs were called) robots looked like poorly done toys certainly didn’t present a quality show.
It was like a pseudo-magic-sci-fi successor to the horrible cheesy Sid and Marty Krofft shows that a previous generation saw replacing cartoons on Saturday mornings. Meh.
A good number of us here were adults already when it was first ran in the 90s, no?
@narfcake the poll master (also) doesn’t seem to understand reruns.
@narfcake Call em and tell em.
@narfcake Yep!
@narfcake
You seem to know late 80s and early 90s cartoons.
So your initial statement doesn’t confirm or deny anything.
Is ultraman a power ranger? or are power rangers ultrapeople?
@thismyusername and how does Kamen Rider fit in? What about Spider-Man?
I still love cartoons, but this was never one of my favorites.
I would rather have watched Roger Ramjet.

@Calabama heh.

@AdmiralDave
Haha IKR - I bought a Thundercats DVD and thought how horrible it is while I watched.
I was allowed to watch TV but Power Rangers was on the list of shows we specifically weren’t allowed to watch.

I don’t think I ever -wanted- to watch it, but my brothers were obsessed. So I absorbed a lot of Power Rangers by proxy.

I thought it went downhill with Zed, but looking back I don’t know if it actually got worse or I just got older.
@Pantheist I heard Zed’s dead.
Nope. I did watch x-men though.

@Oneroundrobb man, that show was the best. I liked Power Rangers, but I worked to get ungrounded for x-men.
haha… my kids watched Power Rangers when they were kids.

@simplersimon When I read Harry Potter, it was both late, and on the DL
I kind of liked it, but was old enough to have to pretend not to.
Now I will attempt to share my favorite .GIF, using only the power of giphy.

@dannybeans so how did giphy do?
