Did you know the Internet Archive recently added 25k+ 78 rpms?
12Hi fellow Mehricans, I wanted to make sure you were aware that the Internet Archive has a huge and growing collection of 78 rpms: https://archive.org/details/georgeblood
Through the Great 78 Project the Internet Archive has begun to digitize 78rpm discs for preservation, research, and discovery with the help of George Blood, L.P.
All of these are available to stream and download.
Are any of your favorites in the current collection?
Find anything really good in the pile (maybe you can make a @JasonToon style list)?

@dashcloud I did not know that.
Where the hell did that header image come from??
It doesn’t even come up in Google images for the topic.
Oh, um - Thanks for the music info. It should be fun to check it out.
Betcha if we ask nicely, @Thumperchick would change it to something like
If she’s not busy reading bedtime stories to Puppycat.
@Thumperchick, you are a jewel.
@KDemo well, now I want to know what the original image was…
@thejackalope - Nothing lascivious. Incongruously, it was a package of Preparation H.
Weird, huh?
I’m sure your imagination was better.
@KDemo Well, if my bowels were going 78 rpm, I’d definitely be looking for some Preparation H!
Okay, this is a most awesome find! I’m really enjoying listening to the tunes. Some are even familiar - some are funny.
We’re lucky this guy is preserving this wonderful material.
Thanks so much for finding/sharing it!
The archive has the extra expense and security of mirror servers outside the US now.
So they get a small amount of money once a month from me. Auto thru PayPal.
@dashcloud, thanks. I look forward to some happy listening.
Awesome! But… how do I get them to play on my CD drive?
@mehcuda67 If they were 45s you could use these CDRs.
But you might be out of luck for 78s.
That’s really cool!
Some of my 78’s are versions of songs not available anywhere else.
I’m glad someone is saving them.
@daveinwarsh Finally got to check the list, they have very few country 78’s. No Jimmie Rodgers? My 78 collection is mostly all country.
Loved the Muddy Waters they have!
Rotations per minute?

here are some more (some are better quality than others)

Not everything listed has been digitized yet, and they are paying for it by having people “adopt” one that isn’t done yet.
Very cool! Thanks!
What do you want to say?I’d like to check them out but my media player only has 33 and 45 rpm.
Testing my camera, I recorded one of my 78’s on my old Philco. It turned out OK…
I also have a 78 cartridge for my AT-PL120 but that doesn’t look as cool as the old Philco…
