I went to Disneyland with my family, and we stayed at the Disneyland hotel, and there was this little button in the room you could press and it would play a music box version of “when you wish upon a star” and it made a bunch of little lights above the headboards of the beds light up inside this cool-looking hammered metal panel so it made a picture that looked like fireworks over sleeping beauty’s castle and that was really cool and it kind of made my summer.
@tricityladytn same. and my A/C guy has been texting his A/C guy friends to talk about this weird repair case that he hasn’t seen in 30 years in the business.
Pretty terrible summer. My mom had to have surgery. I had to cancel my annual trip to SDCC. Got Covid and then had an infected tooth. My friend lost his car to an elk and then his job because he didn’t have a car.
This continues to be the worst time line.
My buddy got me into golfing and basically spent my entire summer on the course or range with my SO, except for when me went to Myrtle Beach and I proposed at the top of the observation wheel on the boardwalk.
@DavidChurchRN
Congratulations (on the proposal not the golf addiction).
Wife and I celebrated our 48th anniversary on labor day. Hope you’re as fortunate.

In March I was hit by a semi truck. I made it, but my van didn’t. Recovery has been slooooow. Not to mention frustrating. Spending summer bedridden was definitely not my any choice. On a positive note, I couldn’t have asked for better medical care or personnel. They all did a fantastic job.
@jouest I went to see some friends that live there. They hosted me for a month. It’s winter there. I’m from FL. I had a heater in my room 3 feet from me and I was still chilly! This thin Florida blood couldn’t hack it. They said it was cool and to bring a jacket. I did, however I needed a coat! A thick one.
I had a wonderful time with my friends but had to come home eventually.
@jouest@milstarr I had to look it up, I didn’t know anything about it, but that’s a big city, isn’t it! I was in the Rio area a long time ago (a house on a hill just outside the city) and we also went up to Manaus. I’m glad you had a great time!
Wow, some of you had a super shi**y summer and I’m really sorry for you. I’m just going to mumble under my breath that I spent my summer weekends in a seasonal campground for the first time and got a golf cart (I don’t golf, it’s just the new bougie thing to do). I toottled around 100 acres of woods in said golf cart and watched a lot of deer. It was fun. I’m officially old (and bougie, apparently).
Took a trip from Alabama to San Francisco in an RV with my wife, granddaughter, and a French cousin (the girls are “tweens”). In spite of multiple equipment issues with an RV we bought used barely two weeks before the trip, the actual trip and what we saw was a lot of fun.
Still trying to recover my vegetable garden, flowers and yard from being gone those 3 weeks as well as 2 weeks in Wisconsin in August. Thankfully I was able to get it sort of back on track and I’m still getting eggplant, peppers, and tomatoes routinely and the flowers are starting to look happier.
Pool chlorinator decided to crap out, which was a bummer. It’s currently at the dealer being checked out. Hopefully it will be salvageable (suspect a control board). Overall it’s been a good season, and if we could just get some rain now it would be wonderful. My grass is so dry and ‘crispy’ I’m afraid that if I scuff my feet it might burst into flames!
TL:DR I’m still on the green (albeit dry and brittle) side of the grass so everything is good.
Well we came close to breaking - or maybe we did - record of the number of days in a row it was 90+ degrees here (the record was 100 something). Here humidity goes with that. I hate this kind of weather. I need to more more north (I do like all the sunshine though that the snow belt did not have, just not the heat and humidity).
On the plus side I found online how to reset the thermostat and dump the landlord block on the motel style heater/AC we have in this apartment so that the bedroom was cool enough at night (2 room apartment, no heater/AC in the bedroom so there is about a 6-8 degree temperature differential between the 2 rooms.
19 years ago I was in a MVA. I was in the hospital and my insurance was covering inpatient OT/PT. At this point the big things I was dealing with 6 pins in one hand holding my fingers together and an amputation of part of a foot. Oh, and the pain. OMG, the pain. During a therapy session I commented to the therapist that when I moved my arm like this (demonstrated the motion) it feels like dirty bearings. IYKYK. She placed her hand on my right shoulder blade and had me demonstrate again. She felt it. PT stopped and I was sent for more xrays. They assumed it was the shoulder blade. Shoulder blade was a-ok but there was something at the edge of said xray. Next was CT of the entire spine. BINGO!!! 7 broken ribs, 5 crushed vertebrae and a sternum fracture. This was day 8 post accident. I was fitted for a clamshell brace and discharged in 2 days. Without any plan for moving forward. In hindsight I’m sure it just scared the crap out of them for malpractice liability but be for real. 6 months later I was back at work. I’ve been on heavy narcotics (during the opioid crisis, wheeeee!) since. Mid August I was approved for disability through my insurance company. The last ~18 months were grueling. Insurance would not approve an increased pain medication dose and I couldn’t take it anymore.
@honeybeehives3 I’m certainly still dealing with pain. I knew it would be lifelong so I’m thinking my attitude was good. Here’s a lateral view of my spine. I extracted it from an annual CT of my chest. The red brackets show the top and bottom of the 5 affected.
@booogerbrain@honeybeehives3 I kind of hate to star this but want to acknowledge it, and your good attitude, I guess? Whew. It’s humbling to hear what some people are dealing with.
@honeybeehives3@Kyeh I appreciate it. While I was in the hospital the nurses told me several times they were surprised at my positive outlook. My response was along the lines of I can control my attitude and a positive one helps me feel better than being a grump. I also think the rehab unit rarely had a patient with my (before the spine CT) prognosis. Most of the people on my floor were motorcycle wreck quad/paraplegic or old people with joint replacement who were not doing their OT/PT and languishing.
@booogerbrain@honeybeehives3
I have heard that one’s mindset makes a significant difference. I hope medical advances maybe bring you some relief sometime soon.
@booogerbrain@honeybeehives3@Kyeh All that trauma and pain yet here you are for more, at Meh, and during an extended Mehrathon.
I applaud your perseverance and optimism and hope FedEx misdelivers your IRK and switches it up
with some drug dealer’s bag of goodies (for medicinal use only, as needed).
@honeybeehives3@Kyeh From the beginning I expected it to be a lifetime deal. It’s been 19 years so far with no real change. My doctor and I have tried something new every 2-3 years. Trigger point injections, epidurals, PT even mindfulness, biofeedback and meditation. The best was epidural injections but the pain relief ramped down over about 11-12 days. But walking out of the hospital with zero pain for the first time in ~3 years I was unable to verbalize to my kid what I was (not) feeling.
@Kyeh I tried tens with no success. I had a coworker with the implanted stimulator and he got his removed. He took one look at my xray and said in his experience it wouldn’t help. I forgot I also tried the RF ablation. It worked longer than the epidural but not enough to keep repeating it. IIRC it only lasted about 6 weeks.
Whoa! So sorry to hear about the crappy summers so many had.
I guess mine wasn’t so bad after all. (Nothing special but overall pretty good - all things considered.)
I had a bad summer because I got Sepsis in my Right hand and they thought I was a goner, I pulled through, but have some bad discoloration in my hand and it hurts pretty bad at times , lost alot of strength in my Right hand also All this happened because I had strep throat and by the time I went to urgent care it had already moved to my hand , the next night was when I got really sick , threw up, and from there I dont remember anything but, waking up in a hospital room with wires and 2 IVs going and connected to heart monitor, 3 weeks later, I got to come home .
Yes I did and no I will not tell you why.
@yakkoTDI
Why?
@FreePasta @yakkoTDI yeah, why?
@FreePasta @UncleVinny Because I do not feel like sharing everything.
@FreePasta @yakkoTDI why not?
@FreePasta @yakkoTDI also: do a puzzle, you’ll feel better! https://www.omiword.com/
/showme @yakkoTDI having a good summer but refusing to tell us why.
I spent all of the summer trapped in an endless loop of bullshit. No different than the last 20 years, and no different than any season.
@edguyver14 I guess farming isn’t for everyone.
There is no mess answer and that is the appropriate one
@Cerridwyn
You mean Meh answer, I think?
Really it is yes & no!
@mycya4me Yes, that’s kind of what I’d say too.
It’s been a really tough year but I’m holding on and still hoping for things to improve .
/showme @OnionSoup observing a really tough year but holding on and still hoping for things to improve.
@jouest the likeness is uncanny
@OnionSoup Same. 2025 has been horrible for my family. Hang in there!
Bad summer. I had Covid and a sinus infection. Both at the same time!
Wasn’t hotter than past summers, but this aging body can’t take those temperatures.
Yes, went swiming, on the boat and got a nice tan.
@Star2236 Didn’t happen without pictures for proof, including tan lines.
@phendrick
There faded now.
@Star2236 I’m one to talk. My tan lines are base of my neck and at my elbows.
There was a summer? At least that damn shark didn’t force us to close the beaches again!
July-September have been hell. Nothing has gone right. Here’s to hoping Fall will be better
@TheGreatNico The fall is the best season of all! I’m already feeling more positive about the future. I sincerely hope things get easier for you!

My A/C couldn’t keep up with the heat.
@tricityladytn same. and my A/C guy has been texting his A/C guy friends to talk about this weird repair case that he hasn’t seen in 30 years in the business.
this feels expensive.
@tricityladytn ditto here, and I’m quite tired of it.

@CreepingDeath I get it. Good nurses are worth their weight in gold.
I went to Brazil for a month. It was awesome to be out of the Florida heat for a little while.
EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
@milstarr what was happening that brought you to Brazil??
@jouest I went to see some friends that live there. They hosted me for a month. It’s winter there. I’m from FL. I had a heater in my room 3 feet from me and I was still chilly! @jouest @milstarr Wow, nice! Where in Brazil were you?
@jouest @Kyeh Campinas. About 2 hours and 10 minutes from São Paulo airport. Not a ton of sightseeing was had but a ton of fun with friends was had.
@jouest @milstarr I had to look it up, I didn’t know anything about it, but that’s a big city, isn’t it! I was in the Rio area a long time ago (a house on a hill just outside the city) and we also went up to Manaus. I’m glad you had a great time!

That was what I did on summer vacation,
The End
@booogerbrain

/giphy well, THAT sucks
@booogerbrain I hope you’re not in pain now. I’m glad you’re not hurt worse. My friend got brain damage from a MVA.

@booogerbrain I’ve heard some things about neural stimulators that can be implanted - is that a possibility for you?

Meh. Summer time means wildfire smoke and being barely able to breathe for a couple months

@macromeh Yeah, same here - makes my early summer dental and plumbing problems seem VERY minor!
