No matter the direction a time change sucks
@Cerridwyn I wish they would just spring forward and leave it there. I like having daylight to do things after work.
@Cerridwyn I wouldn’t mind setting the clock back 15 or 20 years.
KuoH
@Cerridwyn @kuoh Instead of setting the clocks forward or back an hour twice a year I think we should be doing ten minutes every month.
@Cerridwyn @kuoh
i think we should all just be on GMT and use 24-hour format. That’s actually the way important stuff works already.
EDIT: …which proves that Meh is not part of the category of ‘important stuff’
@pmarin I think that’s really an awesome idea. But she’s got to get the rest of the world to go along with it too or it doesn’t work
POPSOCKETS! ROAD ROCKETS! SONNY CROCKETT! AWESOME!
@pmarin So, someone in what is currently Eastern time zone would not work a 9-5 job, but a 14-22 job (14:00 to 22:00 GMT)? And someone in California would work an 11-19 job (11:00 to 19:00 GMT)?
Interesting.
It would make the phrase “in your time” irrelevant, then, wouldn’t it? Because 11:00 would be 11:00 for everybody, but it would just reference a different part of their day.
Again, I say interesting.
(I think I got the conversions right. For the sake of my understanding, it doesn’t really matter if I got the time zone right, as long as I got the concept.)
@pmarin surely we mean UTC. GMT is always the same time, but it is the +00:00 timezone vs UTC which is more like the absence of a timezone. All of our dates are stored in UTC, it’s just that timezones and DST are the worst.
@mschuette @pmarin UTC is the new name for GMT. I live in UTC -6:00, which is CST
@mschuette @pmarin @werehatrack I prefer GMT. UTC sounds like something that needs to be treated with a strong antibiotic.
@mehcuda67 @mschuette @pmarin I really have to think that the actual reasons why the term “UTC” was created were exactly two; lingering dislike of the British, and “Because we didn’t invent the term ‘GMT’ and therefore we are determined to replace it with our own.” FTS, there was never anything intrinsically wrong with GMT as a standard.
@mehcuda67 @pmarin @werehatrack According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time#Etymology it was the ITU and the IAU that downvoted what the Americans and the French wanted. If it was Brit bashing and not American, it would then of course be French. The main difference is apparently solar time vs atomic time, but these days GMT is just an offset based on UTC. Apologies for the Wikipedia link, but search results are either elementary sentences or bloviating technical discourses.
