@cobracat03
What is the universe of possible things/ideas/beings/organizations/alternatives might be exempt from having Amazon want to eat it up and crap it out?
@sammydog01 Aw, hell naw. I live in the Deep South. You can’t sling an empty can of Bud Light without it coming near a lifted pick up sporting a Confederate Southern Cross. You can buy them just about anywhere.
@f00l Well, I guess you got me on that one. Sometimes, you just have to lament not being able to have your own corner that no one will mess with. Amazon, it’s a love-hate relationship.
@LaVikinga
Since being a firearms or alcohol or prescription retailer or similar can be complicated, i get why Amazon doesnt go there. And for all i know, they invest in online businesses that are dedicated to those market areas. Or maybe it’s the better part of corp wisdom to let that alone.
And the trad Confederate battle flag, and other hot button stuff…it prob depends on how hot the button is.
And no fresh flowers, i think, tho i hear they do sell astonishing milk.
I wasnt refering to what Amazon sells or doesnt sell (no transplant-ready kidneys either) , but what portion of the physical, corporate and other organizational universes amazon wants to eat.
Long term here:
Investment banks? Hospital chains? The military? Universities? Google? Multinational mining companies? Solar systems? The black hole at the center of galaxies? The Big Bang?
Si! Amazon wants it all. They just wanna stay on the down-low a bit longer.
@f00l Ah. Now I understand. I used to be one of the biggest fans of Amazon and was a very early user. Over the last few years, the bloom has fallen off the rose as far as I’m concerned. Can’t quite put a name to what it is about the company that has become off-putting, but there’s SOMETHING that no longer sits right with me.
Don’t get me wrong. My family spends oodles of money with Amazon, probably because we like the idea of 2 day delivery, relatively low prices, and the ease of returns. It’s just that I often feel I have to work a little harder when I search for an item. I get the sense I’m being gamed by an algorithm.
As Amazon absorbs companies, they DO change. People have commented Amazon kept its fingers out of Zappos, but there definitely WAS a change with Zappos after the purchase.
We all saw what happened with Woot. Is it my imagination, or have deals there become less than stellar? Do they search for bargains the way Meh does, or are they simply clearing out the overstock at Amazon?
There have been a few times I’ve looked at a deal on Woot, then realized I could get it faster AND cheaper with Prime factored in by ordering it directly from Amazon.
I’m all for capitalism and money making, but it makes me wonder what happens when a monster company begins to corner the market. Do prices increase? Does supply drop because smaller companies have been driven out of business? Should we eventually draw a line in the sand and say "You’re too big. You need to divest (is “divest” the word I’m looking for?). Consumers need more choices."
I’m not a fan of government stepping in to control business. It always seems to make a mess out of things and cost consumers more money when it’s all said and done.
Can Amazon get too big? It’s a distinct possibility.
Should it be allowed to get its tentacles into all aspects of our lives? I don’t know. Is Bezos a Snidely Whiplash sort of man who wants to own the world, or does he have a humanitarian heart of gold and only wants to give back to the human race?
From what I’ve read about the man, I’m no longer a fan. The man appears downright ODD, and extremely wealthy odd folks can do damage especially when others who equate having money with a sense of always being right don’t have the sense to make a fist and holler “STOP!”
@LaVikinga
Naw, it’s great. I sometimes kinda like rants, if i like the person ranting.
I rant. Who doesn’t rant? I try to warn people when i’m about to burst into my Rant Of The Day.
Then i go ahead and burst into my Rant Of The Day.
Limit is 1 rant per day per person tho. Sense of perspective mandatory. Humor good. Serious anger or incredible self-righteousness bad, and i might bitch if those show up. (Hah hah, i’m sure i’m never ever stupidly self-righteous ever.)
PS I did a shorter response instead of a longet one cause was outta time.
@LaVikinga It looks like a few storefronts are working around the purge. You can find “Southern heritage flags” in a few places. Amazon is actually fulfilling orders for the Bonnie Blue flag. I suspect they don’t know what it is.
@LaVikinga love dealnews…they typically only post deals from reputable vendors. If, for some reason, dealnews gets lots of valid complaints about a vendor, off the site it goes.
@mikibell Good to know. Too bad Deals didn’t have the same standards. Perhaps it wouldn’t be turning off the lights today if it had policed its spammy vendors a bit more rigorously.
@LaVikinga
Dealnews deals are all selected and posted by staff not users, which makes QC much easier. It’s a great site, has good mobile apps. Desktop webpage has good search, esp for price history.
Slickdeals, which has mostly member posted stuff, manages for the most part to keep the spam invisible. I have no idea how they do that.
Come to remember…I originally found out about woot from a dealnews post.
Only if there is a way to keep the shills out. Most of them were Amazon storefronts, so Bezos & Co. didn’t have a reason to stop their spamming since they made $$ off them. Eventually the few remaining original users fought back & TPTB decided to shut it down rather than alienate their affiliated sellers.
@Zippy the only way to keep the shills out is to keep you off of it with your bullshit fucking sock puppet accounts. You already fucked up woot with your bullshit, you don’t need to fuck up meh. Stay the fuck away dick breath , meh is fine as is without a deals site that you can fuck with.
@gak0090 Wow. 8 profanities in only 3 sentences. That’s the usual adult response we’ve all grown accustomed to from you, trollboy. FYI I have been a member here since Day 1, and a member @ Woot! for over 10 years. The mods & most of the other regular users knew the deal & were overwhelmingly supportive of our activities (yes, there were more users involved than just myself) and did you notice that ALL of your posts got deleted? That ought to tell you something about how others perceive you.
@Zippy why do you feel a need to ruin meh like you did woot? You have a whole slew of sockpuppets on meh also to vote yourself up? There is no reason they need a deals site here- it’s fine how it is. I don’t want sockpuppets like you posting your BS deals on a site and downvoting everyone elses- it’s better to do without them all - don’t fuck it up. Funny thing is despite the fact that woot deletes my posts based on my obnoxious language, I still managed to have 5x the number of quality posts that you have pinhead boy. So perceive that bitch.
@f00l Yeah dumbass there is just the latest troll in the parade…mostly why I don’t participate much online anymore, not just here & Woot! Who has time for a$$hattery? I own 2 businesses and live near Glacier NP so I get tons of backcountry rec time in insanely awesome terrain. Frankly I fully expected deals.woot to shut down eventually. Failure to deal with shills & trolls has sunk many a site.
@Zippy
Yeah, it was on life support and sick to watch for a long time. Doesnt mean i’m not a bit po’ed about the shutdown, or sad about the loss of what was.
Oh well. Near Glacier NP huh? I need to get there before the glaciers leave.
@Zippy Okay, now that I’m conscious, and remember you posting Meh deals over on Deals (and voting them up, so there’s that, too), I feel a bit silly about asking you to come here as well… Unless you time traveled, and showed up at the beginning, just so you could be here now.
Yeah, that’s it, that’s what happened. Time travel. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
@Zippy That’s so sweet, that I can actually be responsible for you not participating online. So why don’t you get back to brokeback mountain and see if you can find yourself.
@Zippy you realize that you’re a complete hypocrite. You used sockpuppet accounts the same way spammers did and managed to annoy many. I personally don’t care that dealswoot is no longer there, because if it means I no longer need to read your BS everyday- then it’s a total win for me. I don’t need to hear your racists rants about the Chinese taking advantage of the system. The bottom line is woot poorly managed dealswoot- it was their fault.
“don’t hate the player, hate the game”.
You’re so much of a kiss ass with the woot people (and all the minions that seem to have followed you here) that you were too afraid to call them out. I have also been a member of woot for a long time and meh (since close to the beginning). I’m not the troll you think I am. I’m abrasive, obnoxious but apparently helpful and informative since I manage to have 118 quality posts to your 10 on woot. Imagine how many I would have had if I weren’t such a dick. I call woot out everytime they had a shitty deal. I’m not here to kiss anyones ass- I will call it as I see it. I don’t like that you try to come off like you are providing some sort of public service, when in fact you’re a glorified little tattletale repeating the same shit over and over in your posts. There is NO reason the meh needs to maintain a deals site, there are multiple other sites that provide this service- go fucking harass them.
Only after shirt.meh.
@narfcake Only shirt.meh*.
@narfcake No, we need knife.meh and bluetoothspeaker.meh first.
@lljk
Goat.meh
Baby steps please
no no wine/gourmet.meh
Please God don’t make something Amazon will want to eat up and crap out.
@cobracat03
What is the universe of possible things/ideas/beings/organizations/alternatives might be exempt from having Amazon want to eat it up and crap it out?
Coming up with a null set here.
@f00l Guns & ammo?
@LaVikinga Confederate flags?
@sammydog01 Aw, hell naw. I live in the Deep South. You can’t sling an empty can of Bud Light without it coming near a lifted pick up sporting a Confederate Southern Cross. You can buy them just about anywhere.
@LaVikinga But perhaps not on Amazon…
@compunaut But you CAN purchase the FIRST Confederate flag on Amazon. The Stars & Bars

@f00l @sammydog01 @LaVikinga OK, perhaps not ALL confederate flags. But there are probably a few things that Amazon avoids as corporate poison
@f00l Well, I guess you got me on that one. Sometimes, you just have to lament not being able to have your own corner that no one will mess with. Amazon, it’s a love-hate relationship.

@LaVikinga
Short response to your essay: Yes. On the money.
@f00l Slightly rantish, wasn’t I. Husband sometimes says I get a bit Snifflish when I get carried away. (skip to 2:45)
Sniffles
@LaVikinga

stuff.meh and things.meh first, just so I can laugh.
@MzSooze and speakerdocks.meh. All speaker docks, all the time.
Dealnews.com takes care of the deals
@CaptAmehrican Well, this is interesting. Bookmarked and thank you.
