Darwin Awards
15Today’s Darwin Award goes to the Yellowstone tourist who felt that the boardwalks over the hot springs were for sissies. He was about 700 feet away when he slipped and fell. His body may be recovered today, if the rangers can do it safely. The NPS rangers have a very hard job, and they do their best. They have my sympathy. https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/news/16032.htm

Let me guess… the family is going to sue the park.
That does not sound like a good way to go
@compunaut Cooked.
They stopped the search.
As stated here,
Oh, cooked in acid. Criminals could learn a few things from hot springs.
@sammydog01 Not to mention horror movies
Gives new meaning to “leave no trace”
…having said this, and acknowledging it was his own stupidity @ work, since he was a volunteer in another wildlife environment and should have understood why the boardwalks were created…
his poor family, they lost a loved one…
@mikibell I agree… However a member of his family was there… And apparently went out there with him. Maybe it’s genetic?
@unksol it is quite possible it is genetic, but I remember being young and stupid a long time ago!! I also remember when I realized I was mortal, such a sad day…
Out of all the places to leave a safe path and trek out on your own, a geothermal hellhole of boiling acid pits would not be my first choice.
@RuralNinja always take the road less traveled… unless that road is on a geothermal hellhole of boiling acid pits.
“This fatality is the second known thermal-related incident to occur in the park during the 2016 summer season. Last Saturday, June 6, a father and son suffered burns in the Upper Geyser Basin after walking off the designated trail in the thermal area.”
maybe make the signs smaller so humans won’t harm the animals…

They did recover the flip flops he was wearing, from the edge of the thermal spring. Best description is ‘scofflaw’, although the NPS rangers didn’t say it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3632850/Gruesome-hot-spring-death-highlights-problems-Yellowstone.html
