@thismyusername I own a set of these already. I reckon those who say they're not awesome aren't using it right. They sound good. I paid more than double this price so am in for another set for a gift. Amazon reviews are rarely good.
Sorry for all the lag everyone! I guess it's just time to admit that the Android version of periscope sucks. Or AT&T Uverse. Or both. But either way, the speakers sound surprisingly great if you find a good surface. Hopefully that got across at least a little bit!
@Moose another odd bit... every periscope you did on your device won't re-play in chrome... but works fine in firefox... weird ehh? I am not sure we can blame android for the issues, could just be the device you have is lacking some hardware that other devices might have (hardware video compression for example).
@thismyusername Good to know. I might try using my wife's phone sometime to see if that's any better; still an android, but maybe you're right and it is just specific to my phone!
WHAT? if I knew you were testing I woulda watched! arg ! plus IDK what color to chooooose! alright I chose my favorite color since the all black was sold out..... BLUE cheapest fix to my no car STEREO problem
Will pass on the meh speakers (sans baby arm). But speaking of, can you get enough plastic baby arms for mediocrebot to sell? Maybe just enough to include in a fuku.
I already own one of those stick-to-surface speakers that supposedly amplifies the sound through the surface it's attached. And although fun to play with for a few days, it quickly became tedious finding proper items to place it on and ultimately was too limiting. These speakers sound like a variation on that theme. A gimmicky-gadget at best, so Meh from me!
These sound like fun to play with on different surfaces, but the detailed review makes it clear that you're not going to get anything resembling quality sound out of them. Literally all about that bass with nonexistent mids and highs.
I'm tempted to replace my shower speakers with these if they can get the tub to resonate in a cool way, though. Not sure if I want to bet $20 on that.
@trisk this review is for Twist. Not Jet. Jet is twice as powerful as Twist and uses a combination of both trad speakers and the incisor thing if you read the tech spec on the site. That's per speaker so combined 10w versus 40 watts.
Meh. My Meh JBL speaker docks are pretty awesome. I don't care how many times they've been sold on the site since I bought them. They have great sound quality (and make sure your EQ settings are right on the phone - otherwise they don't sound so great). If I buy these guys? I have no idea what I'd do with them...2 star reviews aren't exactly encouraging either.
How about some Bluetooth headphones Meh? Those I would buy.
As if I needed another reason to not spend $20, I did just spend $55 on the LE Creature themed Loot Crate. My monies for the day are gone.
OK, the one thing I don't like about most bluetooth speakers is lack of stereo. That alone made me grab these. Which made me re-up my lapsed VMP membership. I didn't check the reviews on Amazon first, and if I had, I probably wouldn't have done it, but... ah well. Sucked back in.
Hmm. So now I have convinced myself that I want a set; however, I would use them on a trip I will be taking this weekend. I do not believe that they would arrive by end of day Wednesday. I shall have to meh.
@JonT please tell us how many all black you really had? 4? 5? it was sold out quite fast! those were prob the more popular and you acquired the least amount of!
I got a set of these in a fuku a while back. I am not the biggest fan. I have tried on the box it came with, my countertop, a bookshelf, windowsill, and a table that I can remember and mine always just seem really buzzy. If anyone has any suggestions for me I'm willing to listen but at this point the water shooting speakers I got in a subsequent fuku are way better sounding.
Been looking for a pair over 12 watts , my go grooves are loud as hell and there 12 watts paid 23 at newegg..i almost bought these at staples a cpl weeks ago for 45 bucks, im happy to get these at 20 bucks shipped ..will make nice tv speakers, ty Meh was getting discussted with the Meh offers for the last 2 weeks ...
@wolfy2u Very happy like everyone says the box they came in is worth 20 bucks these are loud as hell to be honest im useing the 3.5 cable and have them connected to my tv liking them so far, no doubt thes are 10 watts each..i have them planted on grass havent experimented with other services all and all they are worth a 20 spot for sure ty Meh...not to happy my ice cream maker is still being processed wtf is the deal with that Meh?
I received mine yesterday, and I love them so far. The product feels high quality, and the box it comes in you can use as a surface to place it on if you have no good surfaces. The reach of the bluetooth started crackling at about 15 feet and lost signal about 25 feet. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews, but maybe I will know 6 month from now.
@thismyusername I don't have those, but I have some Ironman headphones that I work out with that are a little weak in the bass but other than that I like how they sound
I just got them, took about 1 hour to charge. Connected to my phone and paired them. Put them on the granite counter top and it sounds like I'm in a hall anyway to change the sound on these? The bass hits hard for such a small speaker but the treble just sounds muffled or like you're yelling into a microphone or something. I really don't get it.
Anyone getting really bad Bluetooth audio dropouts on these? Like, really bad. Seems to happen every couple of seconds regardless of how close or far they are from my phone or tablet, though it definitely gets worse if I stand between them and the mobile device.
@trisk yea I think the "wireless stereo" interferes with the bluetooth (I am guessing they have 2 bluetooth connections happening at once, the one to your source (phone) and the one to the other speaker).
Got mine today, tried them today. Meh... The bass comes through at medium and high volume levels, but even the lowest volume setting on my phone is too loud for the office. The mid and treble sound like the stock speakers on my 88 Dodge, maybe worse. The box seems to have cost more than the purchase price, so it kind feels like I'm getting some value??? I thought these might suck but possibly they would be fun to play with, we'll see. Perhaps the wireless functionality and the small size will allow for some tinkering, pranks, and Halloween display's.
i got mine the same day my fuku arrived surprised they got here the same time, i was also surprised at how heavy the box was when I removed it from the shipping box, then I was also confused at how the eck this box opened since the magnets were giving me trouble..... then I was amazed at how heavy the box seemed and felt maybe that the box probably is worth more then these speakers? we shall see after they charge
My 1st Meh purchase. These things would be nice if they didn't have the poor.....reception? What can one do? Use them for paperweights? Does Meh have any guaranty? Will manufacturer honor any warranty? Is this typical of items sold here?
These are amazing. After 23 years in the Navy, I've lost some of my upper registry in hearing so I'm not looking for blaupunkt quality. But the sound is booyashaka! Having way too much fun testing them out on different surfaces or sneaking up on people and sticking them to their heads...
A little drama getting them set up though. My 'droid didn't want to recognize them, so I had to have the come to jesus speech with my phone... I really love how they "talk" to each other when they wake up.
I would totally buy these again. to twin them to another set.
This is due to the positioning of your Jet in relation to your Bluetooth device. The left Jet requires a clear line of sight to you Bluetooth device. To overcome this, align your Jet and Bluetooth device in a triangular format. Alternatively, position them in a linear format ensuring the left Jet is the one positioned closet to your Bluetooth device.
I've followed this advice and it seems to fix the choppiness, though it reduces possible creative placements of the speakers. :\
@trisk "One of the ways Bluetooth devices avoid interfering with other systems is by sending out very weak signals of about 1 milliwatt. By comparison, the most powerful cell phones can transmit a signal of 3 watts. The low power limits the range of a Bluetooth device to about 10 meters (32 feet), cutting the chances of interference between your computer system and your portable telephone or television. Even with the low power, Bluetooth doesn't require line of sight between communicating devices. The walls in your house won't stop a Bluetooth signal, making the standard useful for controlling several devices in different rooms." From HowStuffWorks.
Apparently nobody told Damson about this whole "doesn't require line of sight" and "the walls in your house won't stop a signal" business.....
@edheil - I have tried all the obvious, line of site, range (10ft/3ft/1ft), hard surface/box it came with, fully charged and reset after pairing.........still sux
Also... If it gets all fuzzy and glitchy and nasty, turning the speakers off, waiting 15 seconds, and turning them back on does help, just like it says on the Damson support page.
Bluetooth speakers where the bluetooth is so short-range and fragile and unreliable that you might as well just plug a cord into them. Well, they do work pretty nicely with a cord in them.
ok... so... not being a bluetooth fan I tried with the supplied line in cord... oh... wireless speaker connection doesn't function when line in is in use... ok there is a line out... oh stereo isn't possible when using the line out...
oh these will be great "bluetooth to line out" devices... just think of it I can add craptastic bluetooth to one of my glorius JBL Minis!!!! ... nope seems to only offer line out to the other damson speakers line in... and not in stereo... not sure why, will goof with that later.
So how do they sound, so I'll tried with line in (single speaker) and ... yea sounds pretty mediocre... if this could somehow be used as the bass unit to, say a speaker dock.... hmm....
what the heck bluetooth can't really detract from this sound ... paired it up with bluetooth.... glorious mediocre bluetooth stereo... with a very short and odd range, it is almost as if it is interfering with itself by using bluetooth between the speakers to move the audio... naw never would have made it past design if that was the case right? :)
My original reason for buying was to place up against a window to prank people, with the wireless range I am going to have to figure some workaround out.
@thismyusername Yeah, you've got 2 speakers... one has a line in, one has a line out... and yet they don't do stereo when you use them like that. They DO do stereo using Bluetooth, which is presumably way more difficult than doing stereo using an old fashioned metal wire, but they couldn't be bothered to make stereo work with the wires....
@edheil If you're going to use wires, then a simple stereo Y splitter cable can give you real stereo. You just have to get the right version to match the gender of your extension cables.
OK just wanted to mention I saw these things at Sam's Club today... Jet models for $80... the only difference is they came with suction cups for window mounts.
I feel better about having only wasted $20 on them.
Total garbage speakers. I've tried them on all sorts of surfaces in my place and it's either far too bassy or sounds like a phonograph from 1910. Trash.
I actually love these speakers - but I want to make mounts. Does anyone have any idea what size the thread is on these things? I’m guessing I’m not going to find a fitting at the local Home Depot…
Damson sells suction mounts for $25 each - which is a complete rip-off. Doubly so when you read the massive number of reviews that say they don’t stick for shit.
@Pufferfishy I don’t own the speaker, but I’d say just head to Home Depot anyways and hit up the plumbing aisle, you may luck out! Either that or, if you know someone with a 3d printer, they could probably print something up relatively easily
I gave these to my son to play with. He lost interest, so I grabbed them back from him to see what magic I could do to them.
I can almost get ok sound from them (I was doing lower volume tests, which means that they beep and boop at 1001 decibels).
When they are running the BT, they actually give measurable stereo separation, using my calibrated Led Zepellin “Whole Lotta Love” test source.
But my right speaker, when it connects, has ZERO bass. The incisors must have been pulled out. I can hear the little wussy speaker putting out some mids and highs, but the R doesn’t vibrate like the left. L gives the thumps fairly cleanly, with washed-out mids and highs. The R produces some quieter mids and highs with a weee bit more distortion.
Together, they actually cover the spectrum almost balanced, kinda.
Forever the optimist with the very short attention span (My motto : “I think I can, I think I can, I think THESE ARE PIECES OF SHIT!”), has anyone had the R lose it’s thumper and manage to debug it?
With the right E.Q. setting, and a slab of granite or something, I think I can make these pass for speakers! Or I can use the granite slab to make them considerably shorter. But I need the magic incisor thumper to work on Right.
Damn! Son. Website is down for “maintenance”. Not sure how long that’s been down…
Oh yeah. Tried to mess with NFC.Thought maybe that would help interference. Keeps my streak alive of never finding any useful connectivity with NFC.
Interesting, I plug phone into R line-in, and I get silent R, stereo in L over BT.
Too many pints across the pond for Damson engineers. King Chaz.Tre is going to straighen their ass up, just wait.

The reviews on Amazon are encouraging!
@silo11 Define encouraging. As in encouraging us not to buy this? 2.6 stars.
@Kidsandliz
@thismyusername I own a set of these already. I reckon those who say they're not awesome aren't using it right. They sound good. I paid more than double this price so am in for another set for a gift. Amazon reviews are rarely good.
Finally... the baby arm is back.
Join me on Periscope for a minute or two while I test different surfaces!
@Moose I tried. Too laggy
@Moose It was a bit laggy, but when it wasn't that bad, the music sounded pretty good out of those speakers.
Sorry for all the lag everyone! I guess it's just time to admit that the Android version of periscope sucks. Or AT&T Uverse. Or both. But either way, the speakers sound surprisingly great if you find a good surface. Hopefully that got across at least a little bit!
@Moose Kind of worked for me. Could really hear the difference on different surfaces (iPad2).
@Moose another odd bit... every periscope you did on your device won't re-play in chrome... but works fine in firefox... weird ehh? I am not sure we can blame android for the issues, could just be the device you have is lacking some hardware that other devices might have (hardware video compression for example).
@thismyusername Just to add a data point, worked fine for me in desktop Chrome.
@thismyusername Good to know. I might try using my wife's phone sometime to see if that's any better; still an android, but maybe you're right and it is just specific to my phone!
worked for me in safari
@brhfl live or replay? I have yet to catch a meh-i-scope live.
@thismyusername Missed that part of what you said - was indeed live.
If I didn't have 15 Bluetooth speakers I would buy these. Strong urge to buy..... Must resist.......
@SteveOOO - RESIST-RESIST-RESIST! Junk
So, probably not the best for taking to the beach.
@cinoclav especially the concrete beach covered with blankets
@cinoclav maybe a plastic beach?
No purple? For that alone, meh.
Yeah baby arm!
@heartny I love purple.
If there's still some left in the morning, I'll get 'em.
@Fish_Kungfu - they seem very nice and feel like quality items but perform like cheap crap from Shanghai
In for one set. Why not add to the Bluetooth speaker collection?
bored-impolite-smoke
got one! bass is good on this speaker!
@ralphieeek was it half off?
@RedOak can't beat $20 2 Bluetooth speaker
@RedOak I see what you did there.
I'm in the market for something like this but with more one and two stars than five it's "meh."
You know, you could buy a red set and buy a blue set and mix them together to make purple. Zero logical flaws in that argument.
@studerc Nope.
I'm all about that bass!
@gallogj No tenors!
@gallogj I like fishing too!
No treble.
WHAT? if I knew you were testing I woulda watched! arg ! plus IDK what color to chooooose! alright I chose my favorite color since the all black was sold out..... BLUE cheapest fix to my no car STEREO problem
@sp3ar Orange. It matches my bicycle.
I love purple.
Tried to buy solid black when first went on sale but all gone:( sigh had to settle for black and white and blue.....
I love purple.
Listening in Mehreo sound
A whopping 2 1/2 stars at Amazon, no favorable reviews by reliable tech sites. Made it real easy to click Meh.
@marvelljones - i wish i would have done some research. these are no good
Damson site says they do not work well on grass. That is a hard meh.
@brhfl Hilariously, though, it says one of the surfaces they work best on is 'A big bag of crisps (chips) but don't open the bag!' Reconsidering…
Also, a grand piano. In case you blew all your money on that Bösendorfer, and only have $20 left for speakers.
@brhfl Nobody works well on grass. Take my word for it.
Will pass on the meh speakers (sans baby arm). But speaking of, can you get enough plastic baby arms for mediocrebot to sell? Maybe just enough to include in a fuku.
That would be an interesting conversation with the manufacturer: “No, we want just the arms.”
@snapster Care to share some odd conversations you and the team have had with suppliers and manufacturers while looking for goods?
Did the baby arm tell everyone to pick black, or just me? None left.
I settled for red.
I love purple.
@jakbrooklyn I know I choose black speakers when they went on sale and was checking out and NO BLACK ...really and it was first minute
From the reviews they sound like they're at best mediocre, uh mehdiocre.
Unimpressed review here: http://www.digitaltrends.com/buying-guides/stick-on-speakers-that-make-any-surface-sing-jlab-shaker-vs-damson-twist/ (just a mono model)
Marketing can be amusing item for the day:
"- Speaker type: incisor diffusion technology and built-in transducers"
I prefer teeth stay in the mouth. Or is one supposed to hold this speaker up to the front of the mouth as some odd type of oral hygiene device?
@RedOak they help you hear the radio through your fillings, duh
@RedOak Dam Son! It's gonna turn you teeth Blue!
I'm game, just based on order number alone: blotchy-used-salad
Gross

Too bad these seem to suck, reviews are bad, pass.
Would these be good for sticking to peoples' house windows and using them for pranks against the occupants of the house?
(purchased 1 pair to test hypothesis)
@thismyusername Will expect a full report!
@thismyusername The reviews would seem to indicate that these might not stick well to vertical surfaces.

Shat reviews. Meh.
I'm surprised they sold over 100.

I love purple.

@thismyusername now I wouldnt say they sound good but.....
@thismyusername I don't have those, but I have some Ironman headphones that I work out with that are a little weak in the bass but other than that I like how they sound
@thismyusername and to be fair if you honestly buy earbuds and expect them to do anything more then help cause your early hearing loss?
@sp3ar huh? you need to turn down your audio source if your ear buds are causing hearing loss :)
I just got them, took about 1 hour to charge. Connected to my phone and paired them. Put them on the granite counter top and it sounds like I'm in a hall anyway to change the sound on these? @trisk - if they didn't have this problem, I think they would be pretty nice. Who do we cry to? Meh or DamnSon?
@trisk Me too, really bad. I'm charging them up, hoping that the problem is they're running low on power? Hopefully? Maybe? Because they're unusable.
@edheil I wish that was the problem.

@wolfy2u see my post below with a quote from their support site -- the speakers are extremely sensitive to positioning.
oh my god.. this amazing device is sound is too bad.. i've never heard before.. even i want to refund this shit..
These are amazing. After 23 years in the Navy, I've lost some of my upper registry in hearing so I'm not looking for blaupunkt quality. But the sound is booyashaka! Having way too much fun testing them out on different surfaces or sneaking up on people and sticking them to their heads...

Got mine. Packaging is very impressive! Finding the how-to booklet that came with them very, very inadequate. Looking for an online manual....
Got them connected and playing, from my Mac. They keep flaking in and out, working then not working.
This is some bullshit.
Maybe they're not charged up, I'll charge them up.
that did not change anything.
With respect to the terrible, choppy Bluetooth connection, check this out:
OK, I'm looking at the support page: http://us.damsonaudio.com/pages/support

Just saw the box, opening it now... getting ready to be underwhelmed ;)
Heavy, fancy packaging, carry bags for each speaker, USB cable with a Y to charge both speakers at once, and even a 3.5 aux in cable... nice.
A sticker... "please reboot L speaker after initial setup" ... ok then...
ok charging.
ok... so... not being a bluetooth fan I tried with the supplied line in cord... oh... wireless speaker connection doesn't function when line in is in use... ok there is a line out... oh stereo isn't possible when using the line out...

Sound is pretty terrible on these. One of them had the stand bent enough to buzz against the body... bent back... not sure if better.
they only sound decent when they are on a hard, non-vibrating surface. It was a waste of money.
@DJDogbone they are still selling them (with the suction cups) in stores for $80... can you even imagine?
Thread from the dead…
@smigit2002 That’s a good idea!
I have never been able to get mine to work. Thumbs down from me.
Necro thread risen from the dead.
