So disappointed I missed out on Lenovo Smart Display 10 for $99. So dumb, waited too long to make up my mind, I am feeling pauperish as I have house taxes and stupid fucking timeshare fees due January 1. Was too worried about unnecessary spending, now it’s back to $179. Hoping it goes back on sale for Christmas.
@RedOak We bought it long enough ago that it was not common knowledge that they were a rip-off. I bought it with my best friend and we shared the responsibility for it but he died so now I’m stuck with the whole bill. I almost got his rotten to the bone niece to take it as part of her inheritance, which would have been a nice touch as he didn’t want her to inherit anything but died without a will so as one of two heirs she got half of everything. But she backed out at the last minute.
@moondrake bummer. There are ways to get out of those agreements.
My in laws had one in their estate and it took a threat from the attorney to end the agreement. Basically gave up the (limited value) equity in exchange. And showed they didn’t want the legal battle and negative publicity. (The timeshare was at a golf course in state.)
@RedOak It’s difficult to find an honest lawyer in this field. There are as many con artists in timeshare divestment as in timeshare sales. I wish the states’ attorney generals would step up and pursue fraud charges against those who claim to get people out from under this mess, take their money and leave them just as stuck as before.
@moondrake any trusted (I know, funny!) attorney you know should be able to figure out how to negotiate you out of it. We didn’t use a specialized attorney to do it.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10" at Target for $130. Along with two pair of Denizen jeans for $24 total. Grabbed some large Yankee Candles (the big jars) for presents from Kohls. Four for $39.
@moondrake Double checked, final price was $129.19. While I live in PA, I work in NJ near DE. So I headed across the bridge and picked it up in DE to save the tax too. It’s a present for the gf’s nephew, but after thinking about it I should have bought one for myself as an upgrade to my old tablet. Or maybe I should just give him my old one and tell him to bug off…
@cinoclav good luck on the Tab A. Bought one a couple years ago and just out of warranty since then it has mind-of-its-own rebooted completely randomly (well, typically when the battery is below 60%).
Went back to an iPad when Meijer offered the current gen for $229 this BF. (Our old iPad 2 still works fine except for being slowwww.)
@RedOak It’s a present for an 11 year old. He’ll most likely break it himself long before it fails. Personally, I have a Lenovo tablet that keeps on going. (And I’m an iPhone user btw.)
Yesterday I bought a brand new GE ENERGY STAR® 17.5 Cu. Ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator in white for $450.00 - regularly $611.00 for one of my rentals. It was a customer return because it was the wrong color. Who the hell doesn’t know what a white refrigerator looks like?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@therealjrn I was having breakfast, with a friend of mine, who told me about seeing a special order refrigerator that had been returned and marked down. And marked down, and marked down to less than a fourth of it’s original price.
@Barney I had started out my day cruising thrift and resale appliance stores. Oo-wee those people are proud of their old junk! Most of the half-way decent used ones were approaching $300 with just 30-day warranties. No purple though, sorry.
Subscribed to Hulu for 99 cents/month for a year (with limited ads). Haven’t started watching much so don’t know how the ads will effect things. Have Prime at a great price so…
@fjp999 I use my new 99 cent Hulu subscription on my Roku so when I do searches for movies or shows, my Prime videos come up along with the Hulu ones. I’ve been watching some Law & Order SVU episodes off of Hulu and the ads are quite short and very tolerable to me.
I kept my wallet in check – actually, I looked at some things, got busy with other stuff then went to bed and when I looked at my open tabs today I kicked myself.
Things I considered but did not buy:
Nvidia Shield with gaming controller for $135
Google Daydream for $35
Silicondust HomeRunHD for $70
Lego Porsche GT3RS for $207 (actually, this one sold out before I woke up)
@djslack I’ve got a SD HDHR up on eBay now. Selling my connects since I got a quatro. I’d offer it, but it’s already got a bid. Kickstarted the DVR, solid hardware.
Nothing cyber, but someone crashed into my car at a red light, so I missed all sorts of opportunities to buy stuff. I didn’t have my cell phone with me. They had theirs but refused to call the police, and left without giving me their name, aka hit and run. I got their license plate; it never occurred to them that a pen is also a recording device. So far I’ve spent most of two days dealing with police reports, ER stuff (nothing broken), insurance for medical and car, and finding a good lawyer. My time is very expensive, so the bitch who hit me will be giving me cash. Lots of cash. I’m stiffening up nicely, and I will need help doing household work. The moral is: do not hit a gray-haired old lady and run.
/giphy hit and run
Update: their car is not insured, mine is, ER found no breaks, and my new lawyer is in a sizeable firm with offices in Palm Beach and here. No TV ads needed for them.
@RiotDemon Nobody stopped, even though I stood in the rain trying to flag someone down. I may have alarmed people as the incarnation of the Morrigan Dash cam it is.
@OldCatLady geez. People suck. I was in an accident that totaled my truck. Someone decided to run a red light so I plowed into them. My truck came to a stop in the middle of a busy intersection. My arm was smashed and I had burns from the airbag. I managed to get out of my truck and was screaming loudly in pain. I remember the cars going the opposite way, driving around me without stopping. I was so angry that no one cared. I could hear my radio still playing “Loveline” in the background, but I didn’t hear anyone asking if I was ok until the cops showed up. Luckily there was two police cars right down the street that saw it happen so they were there fairly quickly. Maybe someone would of eventually stopped, but I couldn’t believe that the people that were sitting at the red light that had a great view of the accident just noped the fuck outta there. Guess they didn’t want to be a witness in court.
@RiotDemon Your poor truck and arm and you! Mine was low speed and my Mazda protected me by accordioning as it’s designed to do. I do believe the perp was texting, though with black windows it’s hard to know.
@OldCatLady I have an interesting scar to show for it.
The person that caused the accident was uninsured. His passengers tried to sue me/my dad which was thrown out because it wasn’t my fault. I ended up having to sue my insurance to get the uninsured motorist money that we paid for. It was a mess. I was an idiot and wasted the money except for a replacement truck. Teenagers are idiots.
I got some toilet paper. Also, NFLshop had a 30% off sale so I got a 1/4 zip Eagles pullover sweatshirt. Oh, and I won an echo spot during my company offsite meeting yesterday, so that was cool.
I got some fun gifts at the 50% off thinkgeeks sale, which was fun. So did my co-worker after I told her about it. Thanks, whoever posted about that on here, I can’t remember who.
I had bought RC monster truck cars for the 4 and 5 year old that were more far more than 1/2 off and then I got a cancellation of your order notice from Belks (which had been $13 cheaper than where I had to buy the other one - different color so no fighting), so I went back to to the more expensive one site (but still the second cheapest) and found… drum roll please… that they were now on sale for 1/2 off of what I had paid. So I promptly bought two, one in each color and when I pick them up today will return the more expensive one (wasn’t going to gamble they’d match the new, lower price on the one I already had). Yeah!
Picked up an inductive ammeter gauge that reportedly can replace the guts of the original ammeter in the Challenger, and being inductive is not going to cause a fire someday. Also a new pressure side power steering hose and Rallye dash panel A/C bezel and controls. The Challenger made out!
It wasn’t exactly a Cyber Monday deal, but I broke down and bought that Tile deal for 8 Tiles and a “Free” Echo Dot. The Dot will go to some friends who just got an apartment nearby, and the Tiles will go out as gifts in Christmas cards to distant relatives. Oh and I loaded up on chocolate stuff at Trader Joe’s. Oh and I scored a good quality used raincoat for $12 on eBay. So, uh, that was my haul for the day, though of course ‘Cyber Monday’ is weeklong these days…
Samsung Galaxy S9, plus Echo 2G and Echo Spot bundle from Amz for $420 (after $100 AMEX discount).
Definitely not $100+ headphones. I can tell you that much.
Some $6 sweatshirts on Woot- Star Wars themed.
@sammydog01 I ran out of money before I got to woot.
@sammydog01 It was sold out by the time I saw them.

@moondrake Oh. Crap. Property taxes are due on Dec. 31 for me. I forgot all about it!
@moondrake @ruouttaurmind Yeah, me too. The joys of the holidays.
@moondrake did you learn a lesson about buying a timeshare or are you the extreme rarity who gets the value out of a it?
@RedOak We bought it long enough ago that it was not common knowledge that they were a rip-off. I bought it with my best friend and we shared the responsibility for it but he died so now I’m stuck with the whole bill. @moondrake any trusted (I know, funny!) attorney you know should be able to figure out how to negotiate you out of it. We didn’t use a specialized attorney to do it.
Nothing. Well… I did get some catfood at Publix.
@lseeber yay Publix!
@lseeber yay cats!
Nope. Nothin’.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10" at Target for $130. Along with two pair of Denizen jeans for $24 total. Grabbed some large Yankee Candles (the big jars) for presents from Kohls. Four for $39.
@cinoclav Nice. I’d have gone for the tablet if I’d seen it.
@moondrake Double checked, final price was $129.19. While I live in PA, I work in NJ near DE. So I headed across the bridge and picked it up in DE to save the tax too. I bought everything from the Mehathon.
@Ignorant So has an Irk ever happened since the Fuko/u was terminated? Or was it all just smoke and mirrors?
@blaineg hasn’t happened…yet.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@therealjrn You got a coffee mug too, right?
@sammydog01 I did! An authentic fishbiscuit5 mug for $2.40! That was really the highlight of the day!
@therealjrn I was having breakfast, with a friend of mine, who told me about seeing a special order refrigerator that had been returned and marked down. And marked down, and marked down to less than a fourth of it’s original price.
It was PURPLE!
If I had only known…
@Barney DRAT!
@Barney I had started out my day cruising thrift and resale appliance stores. Oo-wee those people are proud of their old junk! Most of the half-way decent used ones were approaching $300 with just 30-day warranties. No purple though, sorry.
@therealjrn Yep, it was a sad day in the Barney household.
@Barney

=
@ruouttaurmind I love purple, but that’s an ugly ass refrigerator.
@Barney Perhaps you prefer a different shade of purple? (bonus points for being full of purple food)
@ruouttaurmind I like that one!
@Barney Then you’re gonna have to change your catch phrase from “I like purple” to “I’m fine with fuchsia” 'cause girl, that’s fuchsia all day long!
@ruouttaurmind It looks purple on my computer screen.
@Barney @ruouttaurmind Purple on mine, too. And the one just before it looks bright navy blue on my screen.
@therealjrn Did you get enough batteries to fill your new fridge???
@shahnm Is there really a thing such as enough batteries?
@therealjrn Let your battery storage be limited only by your refrigerator space… I think I read that in an ancient religious text.
@Barney How about this one? It’s only $18,498!
@Barney @cinoclav Oh, I need that one. I actually need a counter depth one but about 60" wide. But not for the price they want!
@cinoclav @lseeber I think that refrigerator might be larger than my whole kitchen.
@Barney @cinoclav @lseeber But the battery storage, tho!!

@therealjrn Thanks for the Roku search tip. Following The Alienist now to see if it shows up free anywhere.
I read the older shows have fewer ads.
I kept my wallet in check – actually, I looked at some things, got busy with other stuff then went to bed and when I looked at my open tabs today I kicked myself.

@djslack I’ve got a SD HDHR up on eBay now. Selling my connects since I got a quatro. I’d offer it, but it’s already got a bid. Kickstarted the DVR, solid hardware.
Yesterday I only picked up the WTF keyboard and mouse deal from Woot. Couldn’t be tempted on anything else yesterday.
@tnhillbillygal Looks like you better be laying in a supply of hay and tin cans anyways…
Kylo Ren’s lightsaber for $86.
Too much on ThinkGeek’s 50% off the whole site sale, but the Chewbacca blazer for $30 was a highlight.

@OldCatLady yuck. People are disgusting.
Did someone stop and let you use their phone?
Hope the pain isn’t too bad!
@OldCatLady So sorry! But I am so glad that you don’t have any serious injuries.
@OldCatLady Get her good. Hopefully name and mug shot prominently shown in the local newspaper and tv news.
Edit…I hope you heal quick!
@OldCatLady That sucks, though I’m glad you’re ok. Also, invest in a dash cam. I feel a lot better having one.
Note: The video isn’t for the officer, it’s for the insurance and court.
@OldCatLady Well, that’s certainly no way to spend the day. Glad it wasn’t worse!
Update: their car is not insured, mine is, ER found no breaks, and my new lawyer is in a sizeable firm with offices in Palm Beach and here. No TV ads needed for them.

@OldCatLady @RiotDemon Did the driver get arrested yet?
@RiotDemon @sammydog01 I haven’t heard from the police. Waiting to see my lawyer, then an ortho, then probably PT.
@OldCatLady good luck!
@RiotDemon Your poor truck and arm and you! Mine was low speed and my Mazda protected me by accordioning as it’s designed to do. I do believe the perp was texting, though with black windows it’s hard to know.

What are the police planning on doing?
No shopping. Work took most of my day and I fell asleep soon after. I had planned to check prices on a couple things.
Tortured myself by looking at some sites that had good deals on things I would love, but bought nothing because I am broke. Le sigh.
@Pony One who sighs in French is never truly broke. True story.
@Pony @shahnm That must be true, because if it wasn’t, it would be Le Suck.
@Pony Pepe?
@thismyusername But of course.
@Pony @thismyusername I love skunks.
@mehcuda67 We had a pet skunk when I was in high school. It was great fun taking him for walks.
“Oooh, that’s an unusual cat… AAAAAAAAAA!!! THATSNOTACAT!!!”
I splurged on a fancy Chromebook that was $200 off.
Tack on an HP Chromebook for $119. Bought it from the Amazon Treasure Truck which was a first for me.
@cinoclav I’m set up for Treasure Truck, but it isn’t in my area yet. Congratulations.
@cinoclav @OldCatLady All we get in Tulsa is the Rub, er…Rug Truck.
I got some toilet paper. Also, NFLshop had a 30% off sale so I got a 1/4 zip Eagles pullover sweatshirt. Oh, and I won an echo spot during my company offsite meeting yesterday, so that was cool.
@ACraigL Eagles. Pfft. They keep killing my fantasy team.
/giphy stupid Eagles
@ACraigL
@therealjrn I totally read that in Carl’s voice.
@ACraigL @therealjrn what does Carl’s voice sound like?
@moonhat @therealjrn Like Irk. But drunk.
I got some fun gifts at the 50% off thinkgeeks sale, which was fun. So did my co-worker after I told her about it. Thanks, whoever posted about that on here, I can’t remember who.
