@Thumperchick As the midnight hour approaches my razor-sharp focus is beginning to rust. Hoping that Meh doesn’t fold and give up with time still on the clock.
Gus: What’s that knife Bob?
Bob: It’s the CRKT Ahhhrg, Gus.
Gus: The CRKT Ahhhhhhhhhhhrg, Bob?
Bob: No, listen to me, the CRKT Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhrg, Gus!
Gus: That’s what I said?
Bob: Look, if it was a good knife it wouldn’t be on here, so let’s talk about something else. Like our upcoming trip to Las Vey, Gus.
I’m buying for a young friend (10?) who is always carrying around a kitchen paring knife, and seems to use it for lots of things, but mostly constantly cutting apples.
@sammydog01 Her parents let her have a very sharp paring knife at all times. Given that, I thought a pocket knife might be more practical, safer, and a good gift.
@bdb Carries around a kitchen knife?? That’s interesting. You could get her a fixed blade knife since she’s basically already carrying one. With a sheath and stuff that can be worn on a chain around her neck. There are some nice inexpensive ones.
@awk Do you end up with a better knife since you are not paying for the opening and closing ability? Or is most of the cost in the blade, and the foldability versus sheath not a major difference?
@bdb If you choose a full tang blade, the fixed blade knife will be much stronger and is also more difficult to lose. Have a look at Morakniv. Exceptional knife at a modest price.
@bdb That’s a good question… in my experience they generally use the same steels on the inexpensive knives, regardless of type. However the fixed blades are simpler and more reliable.
This Argus knife in particular has a spring assist (scary to the normals) and somewhat awkward opening mechanism for small hands so I wouldn’t recommend it.
Now that I think about it, a good “kitchen knife upgrade” would be an Opinel, a French-made folding knife with a wooden handle. It kinda looks like it belongs in a kitchen, about as non-tactical as you can get. They have youth models with rounded tips for age 7 and up. That’s probably what I’d go with.
@bdb This isn’t a big knife, but it might be pretty big for a ~10 year old. Between this and the Kershaw, get this one imho, CRKT is good stuff. A better knife might be the CRKT Drifter - it’s a nice small simple knife… harder to sharpen bc of its shape though, and it’s also a simple folding knife that doesn’t, like, pop out quickly (“assisted open.”) It’s a nice size and good quality too. Good luck nurturing that little knife fighter in training, I guess?
I love it how you give me an hour to argue, out loud , with myself whether or not I can actually justify buying more shit I don’t need… Just cuz it’s cheap…
Just arrived in the mail, aaaaand it’s totally seized up. Yay, I love writing customer support, it’s not at all strenuous and like talking to brick wall. Well fwiw crkt is is not awful at least…

@studerc wow man, your anger cuts to the bone.
@Thumperchick All lame products and no fuko makes @studerc a dull boy
@studerc even dull, your comments are edgy
@Thumperchick As the midnight hour approaches my razor-sharp focus is beginning to rust. Hoping that Meh doesn’t fold and give up with time still on the clock.
@cinoclav I only get my knife information from dudes with half a pointer finger and a smashed thumb
@JTFrancis shit yeah. You know that he learned his way around knives the hard way.
This deal is dullsville baby.
I will give you $11 for this knife.
@DaveInSoCal do that 3 times and I’ll send you an entire knife.
@Thumperchick I will give you $11 for this knife.

@Thumperchick I will give you $11 for this knife.
@Thumperchick There you go!
@DaveInSoCal
I had a feeling you’d do that.
@DaveInSoCal Sorry, you did it four times. No knife.
@bdb YOU ARE NOT MY SUPERVISOR!
I concur…an hour?? You’re up against Amazon Prime Day… Epic Fail. Bleh.
CRKT is a pretty heckin good knife brand; I bought this one last time it was on meh and I defo like it
@truthisbrief
“ready to have some heckin’ fun?!”
I can’t believe this is the only knife deal so far! What the hell, Meh?!
OK, j/k, I hate knife deals. Ughhhhhhhhh.
“Enjoy it”

@awk We must amuse ourselves SOMEHOW as we watch the clock tick down to 00:00, innit.
Shitty stuff for sale during an extended day of sales…Hmmmmm kinda reminds me of a place I used to shop at.
I’m buying for a young friend (10?) who is always carrying around a kitchen paring knife, and seems to use it for lots of things, but mostly constantly cutting apples.
Any thoughts on this versus Kershaw Emerson CQC-5K?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I0S1BFW
@bdb I would probably recommend neither for a ten year old.
@sammydog01 Her parents let her have a very sharp paring knife at all times. Given that, I thought a pocket knife might be more practical, safer, and a good gift.

EDIT: changed gender!

@bdb Something like this Morakniv Craftline is worth considering. It has a “safe tip” (blunted). About $13 on Amz.
BTW, I have the Companion model. 4.8 stz with over 2200 reviews.
R.I.P. knivesandspeakerdocks.com
@hems79 @bdb It lapsed again!
Pass on this. I’m a lefty and this is a knife for righties only. I’ve got a couple of similar design that work well for either hand.
@somurdoch Wouldn’t a mirror fix that?
I love it how you give me an hour to argue, out loud , with myself whether or not I can actually justify buying more shit I don’t need… Just cuz it’s cheap…
Knif eis forc utting ?
This is my favorite thing to do when knives are on…
Will the next deal be bandaids?
I stepped away for some family things and missed out on a knife??? Stupid family
Just arrived in the mail, aaaaand it’s totally seized up. Yay, I love writing customer support, it’s not at all strenuous and like talking to brick wall. Well fwiw crkt is is not awful at least…
@Nexar Mine was just delivered, and is seized as well. Are you writing to Meh’s customer support?
Never had an issue with a Meh purchase until now.
@Nexar Make that 3 seized…
I thought mine was seized too, just hard to open, especially the first time. Got easier after that. Definitely don’t like that safety feature.
@twpaulson My god, thank you! I assumed that pivoting thumb-disk was a loose screw or something, but I’ve never seen a “feature” like that.
@Ducky1138 Scratch that, I’m about to turn my thumb into hamburger from the force to push mine’s liner-lock over to open it…
