@werehatrack The premade ones are never as good as the homemade ones. Especially if you brown the butter and add extra vanilla to the marshmallow goo before adding in the cereal.
From a company called Salt & Straw. Here’s the description for the turkey and cranberry ice-cream:
Here, we roast turkey bacon from our friends at Diestel Farms to crispy perfection before tucking it into a savory, buttery brittle with thyme and freshly ground cubeb pepper. The bacon imparts a deliciously smoky, salty flavor that joins our housemade cranberry sauce—sweet and jammy, with a pleasant tartness to cut through the sides of savory. https://saltandstraw.com/products/pints-of-the-moment-friendsgiving-series
And okay, I’m weird, I would try these, if someone else bought them; I’m not spending $65 to satisfy my curiosity.
@blaineg Well, I’d try them but I doubt that I’d like them. I bet they’re not as bad as the Jones sodas though. I bought those to take to work and share with my coworkers back in 2007 and nobody wanted more than a sip of any flavor!
@Kyeh Salt & Straw started out in Portland. My kids are big fans. I haven’t personally tried their Thanksgiving themed offerings, but most of the weird sounding flavors of ice cream that that kids brought home were actually pretty good (some were positively delicious). They even put out a recipe book that covers some of the most popular/odd varieties (including Salted Caramel Thanksgiving Turkey).
@Kyeh You must be sending it our way, we’re heading for a cool down, too, after what’s probably been our last bit of autumn warmth, <sigh> … Although we New Englanders eat almost as much ice cream in winter as in summer. We’re hardy that way! Or maybe just masochists.
@ircon96@Kyeh when I managed a grocery store we sold far more ice cream in the winter than we did the summer! Personally its to heavy for me in summer, it makes me sick!
@cristysue@ircon96 If I’m in a warm place on a cold day I don’t mind it, but my house doesn’t get very warm. Something I need to figure out; it used to be okay but something isn’t working right anymore.
@cristysue@Kyeh That makes sense about being heavy in the heat, popsicles & ices are much more refreshing. They say the winter cravings often have a lot to do with seasonal affective disorder or even just the winter doldrums, which makes sense. As far as the chilly house situation, I have the same problem, but I find a lot of it is that I’m much less tolerant of the cold as I get older. I’m afraid I might end up as one of those old ladies wearing a thick sweater in the middle of a heat wave!
@cristysue@ircon96 My mother keeps her thermostat turned waaay up and my sister and I have learned to wear summer clothes under our heavy coats in the winter!
There is a vendor at the state fair of Texas that does a fried Thanksgiving dinner that’s actually pretty tasty. But that is about as far as I go for weird holiday foods.
@ircon96@ironcheftoni
That turkey ball does sound pretty good!
And yes, tempura - mmmmmm.
I’ve actually made a tempura dinner a few times (not for Thanksgiving though) but the clean-up is a lot of work.

Pandemic Xmas dinner?
@f00l
Mmk kid
…No friends, no toilet paper, and it looks like self destruction…
I see you watched The Late Show too…
Hang on a sec, where’s my Thanksgiving dinner?
@blaineg https://www.brachs.com/products/halloween/turkey-dinner-candy-corn.html
Right here, and if you’re lucky it’ll be available for purchase on your favorite deal-a-day website before long.
@algae1221 @blaineg
@algae1221 Wow. I don’t like green beans anyway, but green bean candy corn?
@blaineg https://m.facebook.com/hmheathermartin/posts/3108615222702585
Here’s a very entertaining description of each flavor. I sure don’t plan to find out for myself what it’s like!
@algae1221 @blaineg Nah, I got these last year, and if they show up here it’s definitely not a manifestation of luck.

@algae1221 Brilliant review, 5 stars!
The soup just seems like maybe a ham or turkey and dumpling stew which doesn’t sound bad if that’s the case.
However, I love egg nog but would never try that seltzer. Gross
I seem to recall seeing prefab Rice Krispy treats misfeaturing red and green Rice Krispies in the stores a couple of years ago for Christmas.

Go to egg nog.

The Joy of Cooking recipe FTW!
But first, you can have your entire Thanksgiving dinner in ICE CREAM form!

@Kyeh Just for the record, that’s more of a “shake my head” star, than an “I like this” star.

@Kyeh they sound oddly interesting. With you I wouldnt pay the $65 but I would totally try them too

@macromeh Hmmm! If you get to try them, please give us a review!
How about some delicious chocolate covered onions?
They make wonderful Halloween treats too!
@mike808
Penn Jillette would eat that.
@mike808 @werehatrack Her too.
For some reason ice cream is showing up again as Thanksgiving food:

@Kyeh now I want ice cream
@tinamarie1974
It’s gotten cold here, so I don’t!
@Kyeh oh it is actually beautiful here. Warmed up a bit. Spent a good amount of time outside.
@tinamarie1974 Oh, nice! The weekend here was crazy warm - 80 on Saturday! But now it’s more like November.
@Kyeh You must be sending it our way, we’re heading for a cool down, too, after what’s probably been our last bit of autumn warmth, <sigh> … Although we New Englanders eat almost as much ice cream in winter as in summer. We’re hardy that way! Or maybe just masochists.

Time to wash the holiday foods and the taste of candy corn out of your mouth with these tasty comestibles and digestifs:
Shit be getting real.

Which is your favorite?
Curly
Crinkle
@mike808 just no! Right up there with KFC logs
@tinamarie1974
You know you wanted those KFC platform crocs.
And the KFC Yule Log really does give the whole house that fried chicken aroma…

@ironcheftoni Every item fried? Fried green beans, etc?
@Kyeh it’s basically a ball of turkey and dressing rolled in breadcrumbs and fried. Served with gravy and cranberry sauce
@ironcheftoni @Kyeh That sounds pretty darned edible!
@ironcheftoni @Kyeh Those tempura-style green bean appetizers at some of the chain restaurants are pretty yummy, so that might be a nice accompaniment!

@ironcheftoni @Kyeh Amen to the mess, I much prefer to let the professionals handle those things!
@ircon96 @Kyeh
Here is a story on the fried Thanksgiving dinner. It won an award for best tasting and most creative when it was debuted
@ironcheftoni @Kyeh Using creamed corn instead of egg is a stroke of genius, I’m definitely all-in after that little detail!
