We got some info on this a while back over on mediocre's forums.
Here's the gist from @shawn:
@shawn @Thumperchick tl:dr they outsourced the part that they did well and hung on to the part that... isn't that backward?
All this fancy talk confuses me. Anybody want to translate?
@phatmass meh.com sells 1 disappointment a day. meanwhile mehs overlords(miedocore corp.) have other websites like checkout.org that sell more disappointments at higher markups for other people)
@communist except I don't see that they have a products we sell page...
@Kidsandliz "They" don't sell them, other companies do, "They" just fulfill the orders.
@phatmass Someone else sells something on their website, checkout and fulfillment are by checkout.org. It is kinda like how you can by stuff from "Phatmass Store fulfilled by Amazon", but in this case the logo on the webpage would be yours.
@phatmass "goonie goo goo"

@ACraigL Thank you for the video break.
This is the coolest thing of all time.
@connorbush Yeah; but try of all time.
@connorbush Pshh--how about of all time?
Did @connorbush just have a conversation with himself?
@Willijs3 It looks that way, I'm still not entirely sure what about either…
