When will Mediocre produce a site like Casemates, but for people who buy no-name boxed wine because it has the best balance of alcohol content, price, and availability for purchase?
@lljk how much are you willing to pay to ship a $5 box-o-wine across the country when you can pick one up at the grocery store for…$5? Just asking for a friend.
@lljk Plus if you want to get drunk faster you pull the bag out of the box, open the nozzle and squeeze the bag until desired drunkness is achieved…I heard.
@lljk #1 kickstarter for over a week when it launched! The Casemates model, producer direct combined with enormous logistical savings shipping by the case, is the best way to buy good wine cheap on the planet. stock up!
I am enjoying the casemates site (until I get my credit card bills and can’t figure out why the total is so high) and then I keep having to load all these cases of wine into what used to be my “exercise room.”
They do have some fairly “affordable” wine deals (like today – but I don’t think that one would be a good choice for “amateurs” as it’s a fairly unique offering).
The shipping definitely would prevent a “box wine” deal from making much sense – even if you don’t have to pay the shipping, somebody does. I’m sure they have a good deal with FedEx, but still. For example, I wanted to ship a box of tools (not wine) to my friend across the country, and asked FedEx how much ground shipping for 40 lbs would be, and they were going to charge me $80. Ground shipping! Now when you buy a $100 case from casemates, with $5 or “free” member shipping, they must be getting a better FedEx price, but yeah that shipping can’t be cheap.
I hadn’t watched the video until this morning, and realized quickly that it wasn’t new, but was the original from the Kickstarter event. It was nice to see Wine David, and to hear both he and Matt talking about the future (back in the predawn era before Casemates even existed). I prefer Casemates to Wine dot Woot, but that’s probably due to my naturally antisocial nature, and preference for good wine.
Casemates isn’t making a huge profit from me; I order something once or twice a month, and have not ordered a case of anything…at least not yet. I live in WA Wine Country, and I can always just drive to them, and buy what I want.

@pmarin So you’re ordering your wine by the pound huh? That’s gotta be more efficient than those poor schmoes who order by the bottle…

I’d forgotten how very much I love this song…although I prefer the mix of this with the reggae (yeah, us old farts are weird).
