Nice bowls, but I don’t recommend removing the tab in the egg separator bowl unless you only plan to use it as an egg separator. At least on the set I got, there is no way to get the tab back in. If anyone has any tips, I’m all ears.
@Konraden@krez56 Yeah, i hear duct tape is an acquired taste. But seriously, this video shows Carla putting one back in, she does it a little at a time, and if you tried that & it doesn’t work, I’d try maybe warming it up in some hot water to see if that would make it extra pliable…? (Or, if that doesn’t work, try the opposite & cool it down in the freezer. Or grease it up with some oil. Something’s gotta make it easier!)
@krez56 Well I was being slightly facetious. If it moves and shouldn’t–duct tape.
The tab looks like it’s a silicone insert and I’m guessing the tolerance isn’t amazing and it falls back out?
You probably could duct tape the tab back on but it’s not exactly convenient. You might be able to use bondage tape to affix it instead which is much more re-usable.
When things like this irk me, I usually contact the manufacturer to tell them my problem. Sometimes I get results.
@Konraden I watched that video, and scoured the web. Mine absolutely does not work like that. I tried chilling the bowl and heating the seal, and still couldn’t get it in. There is one point where it sticks - maybe I can shave it down. It was extremely difficult to pull out, which should have told me something.
@Konraden@krez56 Yeah, it might be a quality control issue, because there were a couple of other QVC videos out there where it didn’t seem to be quite as effortless, so it’s not just you!
@Konraden
I think you forgot the part about if it doesn’t move and should- WD40- which might facilitate replacing the plug [although it is almost certainly not ‘food-safe’].
@ircon96
Hi, you are quite probably correct, however, I was just joining @Konraden in being facetious.
To be fair, I think my expressed concern about it [WD-40] not being food-safe would take priority over any possible degradation of the silicone component.
@Konraden@PhysAssist Ohhh! Duh. Although, considering some people’s cooking, it might improve the flavor, if not the health profile. But, it might solve both problems if you washed it off once you managed to wrestle it back in.
I bought a set in each color the last time these were up…they arrived with only the red being a complete set. Both blue and greens small bowls were shattered.

@krez56 Duct tape.
@Konraden
To cover the hole, or to force the tab back in? Not sure how food-safe duct tape is, though it does seem to work for everything.

@krez56 i’ve had zero issues popping the plug back into place.
@Konraden @krez56 Hmm, maybe it’s why they ended up at Meh…?

@Konraden @PhysAssist Being petroleum-based, wouldn’t WD-40 damage/degrade silicone?

@csimmons83 Well, on the bright side, that solved the slot-sealing problem for you!
