@heartny I also miss real keys that can be copied for a couple bucks. We had key fobs and automatic locks and still had regular car keys that worked without them if needed.
@heartny If they’d let ME design a car, I’d put a crank on the driver’s side front window, and electric windows on the other three. I think that might be the optimum configuration.
@katbyter I hate key fobs too. When I got my last car I asked the dealer if there was a model that still used keys and he laughed at me. I miss being able to carry a spare key. I carry extra batteries in case the ones in the fob die. That’s no way to live.
@heartny@katbyter Just put a TrackR on your keychain and you can always use the battery from that if your fob goes dead.
Well, except that TrackR batteries die in about a week.
I agree. My car also has capacitive hardware buttons and you really can’t feel those out. I’m always rubbing the damn spots to adjust fan speed or whatnot. The hardware controls should be clicky buttons or dials or slides (my favorite for environmental controls).
Bothers me too. Mainly the fingerprints
I like tactile buttons so you don’t have to look at the screen.
I wonder how many rear end collisions have been caused by that.
@tweezak But how will you get the joy of having your screen break and losing access to all features of your car?
@tweezak none. They’ve all been caused by people not paying attention to the driving part of driving.
I miss the buttons too. And window cranks to open and close the car windows.
@heartny The technical name is Armstrong Windows because they make your arm strong.
@heartny ditto. My window motors died and now I can’t open the windows.

Sadly, they will never let me design a car.

Thank you, IRK.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Used to hate touch screens till we bought a car that had a back-up camera. It was worth the pain for me.
Everything touch, screen and otherwise:
