haven’t done a canon refurb specifically. but, for the most part, i’ve found that refurbs directly from the manufacturer, and especially a big company, are pretty reliable.
Canon refurbs are, IME, light years better QA’d than straight off the line new product and they are extremely well supported. Buy with confidence direct from Canon - avoid “seller refurbished” in the secondary market (eBay, etc.) like it has herpes. Because it probably does.
@Pavlov i certainly plan to stay direct to canon…just wanted to make sure I wasn’t reading into any hype or going to spend hours or days returning products because of issues or not having any support
@brdubb IME they tend to bend over a bit more to take care of any issues related to product sold as refurbished directly from their online presence - that said, I have purchased a shit ton of Canon product over the years (well into six figures for both business and pleasure) - new, grey market new, used, refurbished (from Canon) and “seller refurbished” (eBay, CL, etc.) and I have only had one issue with a Canon refurbished product - one - and it was easier dealing with their refurb support than dealing with their pro support (CPS) to get the issue remedied.
I only wish I could find more selection in their refurbished department.
I purchased a factory refurbished t3i a few years ago and have had nary a complaint on it. It shoots fine, controls all work fine, and optics look sharp and focus well. I saved $250 and got a camera from Canon itself saying that they looked everything over.

@carl669 that’s what I was thinking but figured a quick ask to the community that has no problem telling it how it is was worth it.

@Pavlov I’ve been scouring their refurb listings looking wistfully for a 5D Mark III to no avail.
Need moar refurbs!
I’ve always had a great experience buying at the Canon refurb site. I buy for schools and for personal use and family members.
I’m looking at getting that T6i for a present - it looks like a great move up from an older ef-s camera.
