@yakkoTDI I note that it doesn’t say where these were made. I have a sneaking suspicion that it was a contract deal with somebody that has a reasonable reputation for quality products. I wouldn’t count on there being ready availability of all of the spare parts, but on the other hand, they’re probably pretty generic too.
Apparently this is a rebadged Bytech scooter, with little more than a cosmetic refresh. The cost of the non-Bugatti version is probably less than the Meh discount price for this one.
@alose@ciabelle@Kyeh Obviously there will be cosmetic changes and added features, but the Bugatti branding is what makes this a $1,200 scooter and not a $200 one.
So many of the electric scooters and skateboards that are on the market offer zero protection against the water, which IMO is absurd.
This one has an IP54 rating, which means it should be protected against dust (the 5) and water splashes (the 4). I’d prefer the water rating be a 7 (temporary immersion) but at least this thing won’t die from riding it in a light drizzle. https://www.iec.ch/ip-ratings
18650 batteries are currently only being made in china although not witnessed another fire investigator salvaged a burnt one from India. There is more than one type of lithium, most are lithium polymer. I have never seen a failure of this battery in a low voltage draw situation, such as used in radios. Most of our fires involving these units are from rental agencies that try to re-charge immediately after heavy use. We experience the most home fires from these units in January as they were Christmas presents in most cases those who buy them please keep them outside and away from door exits. It does not say how many batteries it has installed I would suggest googling this brand for any issues.
Sorry, all I know and I am leaving port right now so no Internet for the rest of the week.
@craigcush@jandrese Many are good, many are crap, and some are in between. One thing I have found is that there is an inverse telationship between claimed capacity and actual quality, both in verified capacity and real durability. Amazon had ones with a claimed capacity of 9900mAh. Somebody bought and tested a pair. 850 mAh and 1100 mAh. Not even consistently bad.
@craigcush@werehatrack Oh yeah. There are so many sellers on Amazon that are absolutely shameless on topics like battery capacity and brightness. Just making up nonsense numbers. At least they are easy to avoid.
I know I’ll sound like an old curmudgeon, but… I’m sorry, but going 20mph while exceptionally likely wearing no safety gear beyond a helmet (even then, maybe) is just begging for serious injuries.
@haydesigner That is a commonly held misconception. I have ridden over 150 miles on scooters like this in the last year (segway app tracks mileage), by myself and with friends. Accidents on these scooters are minor scrapes because it is relatively easy to get your feet under you and you don’t get trapped by the scooter the way that a heavy electric bike or motorcyle would. I’ve seen broken arms on motorcycles going less than 10 miles an hour. On a scooter you are so low to the ground that minor scrapes are most common.
@haydesigner Depends. I’ve had a Ninebot Max G30P for four years and absolutely love it; I’ve modded it inside and out with a 48V battery (28mph top speed), front and rear suspension, voltage displays, kick area, and bigger brakes.
I rode for over 2000 miles and NEVER had an accident; then one day, while riding in a bike lane, someone pulled a right turn in front of me, stopped in the lane, and I got thrown to the ground; took out my shoulder and my wrists. Major injuries I still deal with.
Now I can’t trust the machine as it may have some issues after the fall, but eventually, you can get got.
All that said, this is a horrendous deal; a G2 is probably a better buy, cheaper, and less stupid car badging.
I’m tempted. I enjoyed my Xootr kick scooter. But I also learned that when you hit a pothole or a crack your face meets the road very fast. At 64 I may need to retire from this, unless I move to someplace that actually takes care of their roads.
@IAMIS Good point. I live in the pot hole capital of the nation… ours have christmas trees buried in them, are used at hot tubs in the summer (I live in the deep south), are converted to gardens…
Given my oh-so-unskilled surfing during my teen years in Puerto Rico, I avoid standing on moving objects (including boats and roller skates). If Dog had meant us to stand while motoring, She would not have created bucket seats…
Polyurethane foam-filled tires are notorious for the development of flat spots if they rest in one position under load for more than a minute or so, and the foam filler doesn’t readily re-expand to return to the original shape. Foam fills work relatively well on things like forklifts, where the tire is really stiff to begin with, but these tires are not going to be that structurally robust. Ergo, step off when stopped (which you’d probably do anyway) to prevent those flat spots from forming. And don’t let Cletus use the scooter as a hand cart to bring his 40-gallon keg into the house, and then leave the load perched on it while he cleans out that corner of the party room.
so, i was thinking, if the non-bugatti version of this is the same thing, but is available for ~200… that’d be something that I could actually see some use for. Throw it in my car when I take the car to the mechanic, so I don’t have to wait or uber back home.
I was just peeking at how many sold yesterday (21) and what the total price with shipping is.
It looks like shipping was pretty expensive for non-members. It’s somewhere between a realistic ~$40 (if only non-members bought) and $844 (if only one non-member bought). It makes me curious.
And scanning over that for my final proofread, I notice that 21 Bugattis were sold on January 21st. The day of 21’s. So maybe they can’t make a margarita, but they can drink one. (except that’s not how numbers work)
And that makes me realize that nobody asked if they come in Georgia red.
Got mine last week. “Reconditioned” is a generous term being used here. Whoever ‘reconditioned’ it didn’t even bother to clean it. Covered in mud, dirt and smears. Absolutely filthy. The most galling part is that the box tape had text on it saying “reconditioned with love”. More like reconditioned with hate.
@canucken275 Please let the folks over at meh.com/support know about this, they really do appreciate getting feedback when reconditioned things are not properly cleaned up and readied for resale.

Is that really from VW?

@werehatrack @yakkoTDI The answer is Bytech, link below.
/showme just waking up on a new Bugatti scooter
Is this the most expensive item ever sold on Meh?
@PooltoyWolf They’ve had nice DSLR cameras that may have been more, but yeah it’s no stroopwaffle.
@PooltoyWolf it is at least tied with the Totem e-bikes.
I hope that’s not a hamster for scale
@heartny That’s definitely not what the hamster is for!
@Hanky @heartny … makes me afraid to ask what the hamster is for!
@Hanky @heartny @pmarin The hamster runs in a wheel in the engine to give the scooter its power.
lmao gtfo
Because nothing says Bugatti like “ching ching… ching ching”
Can I upgrade to a Chiron?
I so don’t need this, but have wanted a Bugatti for so very long. . .
Meh pulled a Bugatti out of Dick’s Sporty Ass and selling for $500!
Apparently this is a rebadged Bytech scooter, with little more than a cosmetic refresh. The cost of the non-Bugatti version is probably less than the Meh discount price for this one.
@PooltoyWolf
Hah! Good detective work!
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf http://www.bytechintl.com/bugatti
@alose @Kyeh @PooltoyWolf Not seeing any generic branding of this scooter under Bytech or any other name than Bugatti.
It does appear to be the 1st gen scooter released in 2022 with 9" wheels, vs. the Gen 2 introduced at the 2023 CES with 10" wheels.

@alose @ciabelle @Kyeh @PooltoyWolf The Bugatti branded version costs $900 new at Costco

@The_Tim It might die though going through puddles and you’d need to bring a spare set of clothes with you.
@lonocat Ankles, unless you have an accident on the E-scooter.
A refurb is going for $650 on eBay, so this is a decent price by that comparison.
Should we start a pool on when the first is sold? I’ll take 2:47 AM (ET)
@ybmuG 2 sold as of 1 AM EST! Heh
@PooltoyWolf @ybmuG
1:03am and another one just sold. They’re at 3 so far.
@Lynnerizer @PooltoyWolf @ybmuG Is this a drinking game?
@blaineg @Lynnerizer @PooltoyWolf @ybmuG Not yet.
@blaineg @Lynnerizer @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack someone should ring a thumb bell…
[refreshing to see if anyone bought one yet]
I was tempted, but I thought about how much use I would probably get from it, and made a sanity check roll. It was an 18. Whew.
@werehatrack +1 Wisdom
@Blahbbs @werehatrack -1 chaotic

@craigcush 18650s are incredibly common. It’s hard to say anything about them from just the size number.

I remember seeing some of these Bugattis motoring around in the summers:
https://www.motortrend.com/news/private-bugatti-collection-to-hit-the-auction-block-in-monterey-this-august-1588/
I haven’t seen the newer ones.
Holy crap, thanks to Meh I could get seven Bugatti’s for the price of one Apple Vision Pro. This is now stuck in my head
Put it in my IRK
Left hand break lever
@jpu Because you “break” your ankle when you use it.
@jpu @Trinityscrew Porsche did that too.

Is it UL certified? If not, don’t charge it near things you don’t want on fire.
@TheNewGuyHere Yes
@TheNewGuyHere Yes, but in this case it means Uncle Luigi gave it an “Atsa OK!”
Given my oh-so-unskilled surfing during my teen years in Puerto Rico, I avoid standing on moving objects (including boats and roller skates). If Dog had meant us to stand while motoring, She would not have created bucket seats…
In for 500 of them…
Magnesium alloy frame, so when the battery bursts into flame, you’ll have some extra sparkly fire.

Does Medicare cover the use of this?
if not, can you send it back many decades to the 30 year-old me?
@phendrick No. And no. Tardis Express has no offices open at this time.
@werehatrack BLAME
@phendrick That’s the Goat’s department, not mine. (This month.)
@werehatrack Then, EXTRA BLAME for the Goat, if’n she/he/it doesn’t read all the Meh posts.
[Can’t we just use “s/h/it” or even “shit” instead of “she/he/it”?]
