boosted boards rip
4boosted boards, the maker of nearly every electric skateboard seen on campuses and commuter trains, just laid off most of its staff. story is they pushed a lot of product out to resellers and made a wrong bet on a new product line (and also got hurt by the new tariffs on products made in china)
so i’m thinking … decent product for its niche, a lot of unsold inventory (some at national retailers, like target’s upscale gizmo store), just ceased operations …
maybe a meh opportunity?

When considering buying distressed lots there is a high bar for meh products… please answer the following questions about the product you are wanting meh to purchase:
does it have a dock? (40pin iphone preferred)
is it bluetooth enabled?
does the product require the company stay solvent to continue to function?
If you answered YES to all three of these questions @snapster or @dave will be in touch shortly.
@thismyusername
it has a dock. you just steal a milk crate and cut the top, slot the board in, and voila
it is bluetooth enabled
it requires the company to be solvent to work! (because parts fail and boosted is the sole source)
@zippyus 2 out of 3 is pretty good, here are some further refining questions that as a meh customer I have come to expect:
does it function as a water vessel?
is it a knife?
@thismyusername you can balance several flasks and insulated mugs on it.
and you can carve up streets while riding, so totally a knife.
I’m down for a boosted board, y’all find any cheap online yet?
@brandom please add me to this email alert list. will be setting a notification up on slickdeals
I wouldn’t mind a Rev, but can probably find better things to do with $1,500.
@ruouttaurmind the $1500 was when the product was backed by a company with exceptional service (not charging for out of warranty repairs).
gonna be a lot less without the company backing the product.
Do they have a ‘Tactical’ version?
@daveinwarsh They have a ‘Stealth’ version. Good enough?
@daveinwarsh @ruouttaurmind Hey…those show “temporarily out of stock” I wonder when they’ll get back in stock!
@daveinwarsh @ruouttaurmind @therealjrn
Camo would work. Mossy Oak or knockoff?
@daveinwarsh @mike808 @ruouttaurmind Is camo needed because there is a high demand for electric skateboards in the forests Mike?
@mike808 @ruouttaurmind @therealjrn
I think a Tactical skateboard would have a flashlight, USB charging battery, Bluetooth speaker and a fold-out knife blade.
This is the bane of the future. In our rush to “monetize” the interwebs, people build things apps, IOT devices that use proprietary services that, should the company go under, it takes down everything that depends on it.
The ugly secret is that customers are never told what all the thing they just bought critically depends on to function.
For an example, look into the Olio smartwatches that sold here a while back. They are all now smartbricks.
@mike808 “smartbricks”?
Do they have a tactical version? If not black then maybe in Mossy Oak?
