This vs a vitamix? Anyone have anything noteworthy to mention about either one? I want a blender, but I’ve never heard of blendtec. I’ve reduced my own research down to choosing a vitamix the next time they go on sale.
@sheikbatman BlendTec is a Utah-based company, who have over-engineered just enough to try to beat Vitamix on most major points…
That said, they’re both extremely powerful and generally reliable offerings, and I have had both in my kitchen. They have also both been contracted to various large chains (Jamba juice, for example), who demand high reliability, and the ability to just do the job of blending well.
The one significant difference is in their approach to how they blend; BlendTec is far more into a “hammer” or pulverizing technique, which works great for breaking ice, thick batter or dough, or for things like making your own nut butter from unprocessed nuts (almonds, cashews, etc.). Vitamix has sharper blades, which lend themselves better to “chopping” or being a high-speed food processor. Worked well for salsas, soups, or anything involving fresh produce. In the end, they become better tools for specific needs, just like you could have a 500hp truck for towing things, or the same power in a sports car - “Equivalent” metrics that ultimately don’t compare perfectly, like a meat tenderizing hammer won’t quite do the same as a chef’s knife.
For my use, I have stuck with BlendTec as they were easier to deal with when it came to warranty service, the one time that I needed it (higher tier model, and the warranty was for the container - not a motor). And I prefer my smoothie-making machine for Texas summers. Doesn’t make Vitamix any less great, and I do miss having the tamper tool, but I don’t regret the choice.
@sheikbatman In my opinion - the blendtec is better. Both options are superior to most basic blenders. The blendtec gives a smoother blend. I bought mine from Meh several years ago - circa 2016. Best purchase from the site to date.

@sheikbatman This is the entirety of my blendtec knowledge and research: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnFP0IU4gpnmcLnVzDLUtfw “Will it Blend?”
@sheikbatman Wirecutter says bledtec is better at pulverizing electronics and vitamix is better at blending food (tamper, slower available speeds)

I love my blendtec. I use it a few times a week and it’s 5-6 years old. Makes great smoothies.
@honeybeehives Any good smoothies recipes?
