@tweezak I only gave this a star because it was clever. I actually find U2 to be ok. In the process of explaining myself have negated the effect on my altruism score. I fail.
@zinimusprime I’m with you on “OK.” In my book meh is approximately equivalent to OK. To me U2 is barely more than a one-hit wonder. They have a few songs I enjoy (with or without you, sunday bloody sunday, for example) but I’m far from a fan and their music is not something I seek out. It all sounds the same. I heard a song by Muse and thought it was U2 because it sounded so much like every U2 song. Now, if we were talking about Tool…that’s a whole different topic. Different genre though.
Though I had an amazing experience with the song Beautiful Day when I was visiting the Highlands of Scotland on the rainiest day on the books. It was played ironically. And triumphantly.
I love all the favorites, but I’d have to include “Elevation (Tomb Raider Mix)” for sheer funkiness & I’m also partial to “Mysterious Ways” as my favorite from Achtung Baby. That entire album was in HEAVY rotation as part of my early 90s soundtrack of life, which primarily consisted of that & 2 other albums, Nevermind & Blood Sugar Sex Magik. <sigh> Good times.
@kostia Tori!! So much good stuff to choose from! That was during my early 20s, so if i wasn’t at work, i was usually driving my first new car all over the place, & almost always with one of those CDs in the deck at an obnoxious volume.
All I Want is You from Rattle & Hum. Is it their best? Maybe not, but it’s a hidden gem on a forgotten album. Best song, probably Gloria from October. Criteria used: Selected from the period before the Edge started using heavy pedal effects, no points deducted for bad hairstyles, judged against the relative quality of other songs when the album was released. That is, you can’t compare Songs of Experience to Boy or War due to production value and technology differences. But 40, Sunday Bloody Sunday, With a Shout and just about every track on those early albums still stands up in terms of lyrics and composition. That is, no one will be covering Get Out of Your Own Way 10 years from now.
It’s With or Without You, One, and Where the Streets Have No Name - you’re a monster if you choose one over the others. The moment you choose one, the others resonates in your head and remind you of their merit for being top choice. If you don’t resolve to say all 3, you’ll simply stop functioning as a human and be stuck in an endless loop of not being able to decide.
Side note, my 4th favorite U2 song is one that nobody has mentioned from the Batman Forever soundtrack with an amazing animated music video…

(Actually I quite like U2.)
Including the songs mentioned in this topic.
@f00l they have been my favorite band since I was introduced to their music in 1989. New school, new friends and amazing new music!!
Desire.
They’re almost all wonderful, but Where the Streets Have No Name takes it, no contest. That intro and outro give me goosebumps.
@PooltoyWolf #truth
Mysterious Ways.
“Seconds” (or most anything from “War”)
Lemon
Refugee
None. I can’t stand Bono or U2.
@Corinalynn86 I second that… And by second I mean that Bono is a real #2(). I’m not saying he’s the shit; rather just a pile of the stuff. South Park even proved it in season 11 episode 9 “More Crap”

@Corinalynn86 @sicc574
Southpark could prove that quality about anyone. That’s part of the joy of Southpark.

@Corinalynn86 @f00l Damn right!
I have no clue. I recognized only one of those.
“Seconds” is second
meh.

So you’re an “insufferable retard”?

@Kyeh @tweezak Because I am bad with social cues, I can’t tell if the article is sarcastic or not, but I agree with it either way.
@tweezak @zinimusprime Here’s the article the quote came from originally; it’s longer and much more interesting, and gives context to what he said.

@Kyeh @zinimusprime I am not insufferable, I’ll have you know.
@tweezak @zinimusprime
Maynard’s words, not mine! Although I’m guessing that that unfiltered quality is part of his charm.

Bleargh. Now I’m going to have to listen to U2 all day.

@ircon96 That was my freshman year of college.I’m pretty sure I wore out my CDs of Blood Sugar Sex Magic and Tori Amos’s Little Earthquakes.
Mysterious Ways is up there, but Joshua Tree was the soundtrack of high school so I had to go with WoWY.
@kostia Tori!! So much good stuff to choose from! That was during my early 20s, so if i wasn’t at work, i was usually driving my first new car all over the place, & almost always with one of those CDs in the deck at an obnoxious volume.

@Maxwell42 Agreed. Was just about to post. GREAT song.
@Maxwell42 +1

I have to say, Vertigo. If I have to choose a U2 song.
Bad!
Depends on the day for me.
Streets.
Pride.
WOWY.
Bullet the Blue Sky.
Red Hill Mining Town followed by Gloria
I’m pretty sure Where the Streets Have No Name was written about Salt Lake City.
@blaineg If you haven’t been here, the city is laid out on a grid and the majority of the street “names” are 400 East, 1300 South, etc.
