Even WITH my massive bias, I still gotta go with trains. The steam locomotive did for the Industrial Revolution what the Boeing 747 did for world travel.
@capnjb@Star2236 Love it! since you mention an item from nature, yours is a true Haiku!
My not-quite-a-Limerick is out of order (and missing a line), but since I love to write in Limerick, it sort of has that feel to it!
In the Chesapeake Bay, so wide, Blue crabs scuttle with pride. Their claws are quite fierce, And their colors so fierce, They’re the kings of the tide!
Trains, specifically a select few in my case. UP4014, any Allegheny 4-6-6-2, those amazing and no longer extant Pennsy special types, SP982, AT&SF 2926, GCR 29 and GCR 4960. I rode the train to the South Rim behind one of the GCR steam locos in 1996 with my daughter, who was just 7 at the time, and that was a trip neither of us will forget. I had been completely unaware that the train service to Grand Canyon had been restored until I chanced to see the plume of steam and smoke rising in the distance when I was in the area not long before the '96 trip, and if that was what I thought it had to be, I wasn’t going to miss it; I pulled over, and the engine hove into view a few seconds later. As it ran past, I was just completely amazed, and seeing the railway name on the beautifully restored cars, I knew that this was a trip I would have to take when the opportunity presented itself.
I hope to repeat it next year, hopefully in May. If I can book it as a trip that provides a few nights at the South Rim before returning, I will.
Made video games easier to play without physical media.
@yakkoTDI I love that the background for this poll is a SteamDeck as well.
@ExtraMedium @yakkoTDI The Steam Deck is great.
Nourish us.

All those options, plus cooked some pretty good food.
Stanley steamer
@Cerridwyn The car, not the cleaning service! Heh. (See also: the Doble steam car.)

Heat buildings.
Steampunk!
I’m from Maryland. The correct answer is blue crabs.
@capnjb
That sounds like the best one
@capnjb @Star2236
Also from Maryland.
I surely can attest.
The others are more useful,
But blue crabs are the best.
@mehcuda67 @Star2236 Dang, I thought this was a haiku when I saw it. Turns out it’s a limerick. May I assist? I haiku’d it for you!
Also from M. D.
I can completely attest
Blue crabs are the best
Shout out to Old Bay… not a sponsor.
edit - It seems the limerick worked better… but I’m 30 days aways from having crab pots in the water. Lots of yum in my future

@mehcuda67 @Star2236 Well I had AI write me a proper Limerick…

Steam Sales filling my backlog of games I may never play in the same way that meh and sidedeal fills my physical space with things I may never use.
@ddbelyea I have two separate but related hobbies.
Buying video games.
Playing video games.

Open pores and relax muscles. But also blue crabs.
