@Kyeh@xobzoo I make it a habit of getting my brother’s children the most obnoxious toys I can find. Call it payback for having to grow up with three brothers. I don’t hate them but really like annoying them.
@rtjhnstn@squishybrain And I just noticed the bow has a laser sight or tactical light on it. Either the conductor told the string section they need to work on their attacks, or there’s a long wait for tenure and they’re taking things into their own hands.
There’s nothing like a well-played mandolin, except a classically trained violinist who’s taken up bluegrass fiddle. If you get an opportunity to go to a bluegrass festival, go. Just like the rock festival you’re imagining, but with a much less chaotic average attendee age. (Same amount of mud, sadly.) Always the nicest people ever. Never had a bad time.
@kostia I agree! I grew up in a bluegrass playing family (brother played banjo, guitar and mandolin, dad played fiddle, upright bass and bass guitar), and that crowd was the nicest and most fun group of folks ever! The Philly Folk Festival often has a few bluegrass acts. I’ve never been, but I want to go!
We saw someone giving mini mandolin lessons in a tent at a bluegrass festival when my daughter was about 7, and my daughter said “why is it called a mandolin? I want to play a womandolin)”. Now that’s what we jokingly call it.
As a kid my dad played the cymbals in the marching band. I am sure his parents regretted that decision. He couldn’t read music but played the piano by ear beautifully. Too bad marching bands didn’t have pianos.
me looks down
@yakkoTDI
Yeah, that’s small, all right
I don’t have kids but I bought my nephew a kids drum set at a garage sale and it was the best $5 I ever spent.
@kjady Did his parents agree?
@kjady @Kyeh Yeah, did/do you hate his parents? Was this the culmination of a not-so-secret revenge plot?
@Kyeh @xobzoo I make it a habit of getting my brother’s children the most obnoxious toys I can find. Call it payback for having to grow up with three brothers. I don’t hate them but really like annoying them.
@Kyeh Well they couldn’t say no as they weren’t at the garage sale. They didn’t refuse it so…
@kjady
I meant did they agree that it was the best $5 you ever spent.

Personal question, Meh.
Nothing more lethal than a Violin:
@squishybrain Sax and Violins will be our downfall.
@squishybrain You’ve been reading too many Charles Stross books. Or not enough, since “too many” is kind of an oxymoron there.
@squishybrain Why does a knife need a scope? Are you legally blind?
@rtjhnstn @squishybrain And I just noticed the bow has a laser sight or tactical light on it. Either the conductor told the string section they need to work on their attacks, or there’s a long wait for tenure and they’re taking things into their own hands.
@rtjhnstn @squishybrain It must be a sniper blade.
I’d say either a recorder, tin whistle or kazoo. We did mean the worst idea ever, right?
@Wookee Actually, there’s some recorder music that is beautiful. J.S. Bach wrote some great music, but my favorite is Telemann.
Mini Kalimba
@heartny This is a good suggestion, Meh - could you sell those next?
@Kyeh They did during a Mehrathon, but they sold out quickly.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/8-key-mini-kalimba
@heartny I know - and then some people got umbrella hats instead!
@Kyeh Ah yes, forgot about that. But they should sell the Mini Kalimbas again and hope we don’t get hats instead.

@k4evryng I love that! I can’t wait to share it with my friend who plays.
Harmonica
This is fishing for skin flute jokes.
@00 More like skin piccolo.
Fisher Price xylophone… For other people’s kids. It has wheels!
Kazoo.
Kalimba Thumb Piano
Cigar box guitars & banjos are cool & have an interesting history.
Triangle.
I like things with descriptive names.
/showme a bewildered doctor holding a very small medical instrument in an operating room
@medz I’m guessing he’s a plastic surgeon.
@heartny @medz I wouldn’t want him anywhere near me.
/showme Best small instrument style of Al Hirschfeld
@mediocrebot Hmm. He doesn’t look small. Unless maybe his instrument is small?
@heartny So much joke potential here…
@heartny @mediocrebot
A Harmonica
@rtjhnstn Right! that’s what I’m saying, it fits in your shirt pocket and the right player can mesmerize a concert hall.
@rtjhnstn ^^THIS^^ ! !
Mike Portnoy plays a Pokémon drum kit.
@tweezak i loved the “technical difficulties” every time the kits walked and he fell over. Proof a good player never blames his instrument.
When someone’s nose whistles when they breathe.
@kittykat9180
I think they said the smallest not the most annoying!
Lol
@Lynnerizer, can it be both?
I play the mandolin. Not well, but I still love it. Not sure anyone else in the house does, though.
@ahacksaw I tried that once but I kept slicing my fingertips.
@macromeh Keep practicing. Eventually all your fingers will be gone. Problem solved!

@Kidsandliz keytar!

@Kidsandliz Or cellos
Hand ocarina. You don’t have to carry anything at all.
Harmonica all the way.
The kazoo. Obviously.
I’m intrigued by the otamatone.
