As a geek I have one failing. I despise Star Wars. However I’ll never forget working in our local theater when revenge of the Sith came out. Right when Anakin was burning in the Lava smoke came pouring out of the projector room and in to the theater. A small electrical fire… I can look back on it now and laugh but wow the panic. I hated that job.
@kjady eh. It’s 1980s space opera. I’m sure it’s not for everyone. If you thought that was bad I’m curious what you think about TOG star trek. That is bad
How far John Williams and Ben Burtt advanced movie sound and music in one film (and, honestly, many of the successors, though the improvements were much less dramatic for subsequent trilogies).
I’ve never seen any of them, although i feel like i did after having seen all the clips everywhere over the years. And that’s really an achievement, considering what a rabid movie fan i am. Take that, George Lucas/Disney!!
@ircon96 Wow! I have the same feeling of accomplishment (?) at never having attended a live football game, ever.
I saw the first Star Wars (the one later subtitled Episode IV) but haven’t seen the rest. Following the whole saga feels a little too much like having to keep up with real history in school.
@Kyeh Wow, come to think of it, I’ve never been to a football game, either! (Or baseball, basketball or soccer for that matter.) Greetings, fellow over-achiever!
@ircon96 Oh, you’ve outdone me! I’ve been to baseball games. Also a couple of women’s college basketball games, which were fun because they actually played really hard.
@Kyeh Oh, no problem, that’s not enough to keep you out of the club. And don’t worry, there’s zero commitment required, we don’t even take attendance. (Wink wink, nudge nudge. Groan.)
@ircon96@Kyeh I’ve been to football games… But only because NROTC had us volunteer to man gates. So I was that guy taking their beer they tried to smuggle in in their pants. Or other places. And running in to take their giant inflatable dildo.
And then student security patrol. “Hey this guy is carrying a girl off who can’t even stand can someone check on them”
@werehatrack In the agreement with Lucas, they could could make Spaceballs, provided the don’t do any merchandise at all. So of course that was parodied also.
The original opening, with the ships flying into the scene after the intro scrolled by, and the Star Destroyer just kept going, and going, and going… the sheer scale of things.
The original hero’s journey and the passing of the torch.
The incredible music.
I didn’t allow the second trilogy to somewhat diminish appreciation of the first (it really wasn’t near as good), and didn’t allow Disney Star Wars to utterly ruin my enjoyment for what Star Wars was and hope that it might climb out of the mickey’s doldrums to be again.
Any scene with Jar-Jar.
@FreePasta
@FreePasta @shahnm nice jugs
The Battle of Hoth is my favorite.
The opening angled text stuff with the John Williams main theme blasting along to set the mood!
@cinoclav Early adolescent me from back in the day salutes you,
Jabba. I mean @cinoclav…@cinoclav @shahnm And she had a twin…errrrr…I mean stunt double.
@cinoclav the boots dont really go w the outfit though. Even barefoot would have been a better option
@tinamarie1974 The sand is hot on Tatooine!
@cinoclav silly me, what was I thinking!!

Darth Vader’s pimp walking tune.
@yakkoTDI Did you also dig his obscene crank phone call breathing?
@shahnm No but that ATM on his chest came in handy at the strip club.
@yakkoTDI That ass-to-mouth thing was suppose to be secret!
@shahnm @yakkoTDI
That wasn’t the only solo Darth killed!

@kjady So what’s your one failing?
@kjady As a geek, I have pretty much all the failings…
@kjady Wow - “Sensurround”!
@yakkoTDI Well my brothers say its the fact I hate star wars…
@kjady if the prequels were you first and you weren’t under 10 they failed you.
@unksol Oh no, we started with A New Hope. I just don’t like them.
@kjady eh. It’s 1980s space opera. I’m sure it’s not for everyone. If you thought that was bad I’m curious what you think about TOG star trek. That is bad
@unksol Still bad but I like it much better than Star Wars. If I had to chose it would definitely be Star Trek.
@kjady hmm Stargate? And version
@unksol Oooh… Probably SG1 show. Kinda pains me to say as Atlantis was great too. So was the movie.
Every time Chewbacca dropped the F-bomb.
I don’t remember any of the characters eating tendies.
IT’S A TRAP!!
Or when Darth Vader killed the emperor. That whole scene was awesome.
POKER! JOKER! NOT MEDIOCRE! AWESOME!

@jsfs Star Wars Minus Williams
I am of the very strong opinion that John Williams is THE musical genius of our generation. And it’s not even close. (And I’m a rock ‘n’ roll guy.)
@haydesigner @jsfs
Duel of the Fates from Phantom Menace.
Hey, where’d all the handrails go?
@2many2no
And that’s completely realistic!
The cantina and bar extras.
The Wilhelm Scream.
I’ve never seen any of them, although i feel like i did after having seen all the clips everywhere over the years. And that’s really an achievement, considering what a rabid movie fan i am. Take that, George Lucas/Disney!!

The view from the front of the Millennia Falcon as it goes into hyperdrive
@ludiddley4 I see that every time I’m driving in the snow.
@cinoclav
Since I’m in the tropical part of the world, I never get to see that
There is no Best part. But there is a Worst part.
@Nate311 I don’t think there is just one.

“It’s not my fault!”
Yes, I’m strange.
Used to love them as a kid, now I don’t. Plus my boyfriend puts them on all the time and it annoys the shit out of of me
Merchandising. Merchandising? What’s that? Merchandising!
@narfcake
And given that Spaceballs wasn’t merchandised, the presence of that scene was particularly Brooksian.
OTGH, I came across a lady selling embroidered “SPACEBALLS - The Dice Bag” and “- The Messenger Bag” at a con a while back.
@werehatrack In the agreement with Lucas, they could could make Spaceballs, provided the don’t do any merchandise at all. So of course that was parodied also.
Chewbacca noises.
@tjwbiowa
The droids are hands down the best part of the Star Wars saga!
