lololol… When I saw this, my first thought was, “Do I want these so I can check on my new cat when I’m not home?” (She was rescued from a bit of a pet hoarding situation and is almost like a feral cat. I rarely see her for more than a few seconds.)
@baqui63 I also have a rescue cat. The group had him fixed, litter box trained & shots!
I had not had a pet in quite a few years, he was to keep me company, after being my Mom’s caregiver for a couple years.
@baqui63@mycya4me My neighbor “gave” me a neighborhood feral cat that she couldn’t find a home for. We think he wasn’t really feral and had already been “fixed” and checked by her vet.
It took a bit of time for him to get used to home life but he turned out to be a great companion for many years and we traveled in an RV together almost every Winter. I like to say “I had at least 50,000 miles on that cat!”
We used to have a kitty cam that we would check in on when we weren’t home. I rarely leave the house anymore, so it’s kind of pointless to have something like that.
After getting an automated Cat litter box, my wife is convinced that one of the cat will get tangled up in it when it moves, so, yes we have a camera on the Box
We first got an “indoor” network camera almost 20 years ago to point out of a rear window at our pool. Some neighborhood kids had apparently been sneaking into our pool in the afternoon and we were hoping to catch them to call the police.
We never did catch them - they were scared off when a neighbor questioned them.
But we kept the camera to watch our foster dogs crate. And one day saw our dog pacing the kitchen in the background before letting loose all over the floor!
At least he did it in the kitchen linoleum floor and not on the carpet!
You forgot to mention tin you can play back shadows as they move across a room and convince company that they are ghosts ,grandma never liked anyone going into her room….
I kept a set of four in mom’s house (next door) to help with her independence as she got older. This gave me the ability to check on her to make sure she was up in the morning, hadn’t fallen, was headed over for lunch etc etc. They came in super handy more than once.
I can’t adequately express how handy these were. For instance, Mom had a power recliner that she was not patient enough to wait for the leg part to stow all the way before she would try to get up. One day she slid onto that part trying to get up from the chair while it was still up part way and it caused the chair to tip and slide her to the floor. She wasn’t capable of getting up on her own, but we saw her shortly after it happened and went next door to ‘rescue’ her.
Target practise.

Watching the bid feeder, or better to say squirrel and rat feeder.
@hchavers but you have to be creative in the ways to prevent the other critters from getting the food! It is possible!
@hchavers I love the squirrel Olympics on the birdfeeders
I have legit gone back to the security camera just to see where I sat something down.
@jnicholson0619 I don’t have them so that never occurred to me, but it could definitely be useful.

When I wiped out on the frosty deck I was able to show my friends how stupid I looked

@ArmchairGamer
And you were pre-warned so you didn’t step into it carrying something in your arms when you entered the room!
@ArmchairGamer Nice! Seems like they always seem to find a carpet when there’s sick coming out one end or the other

To watch my dogs while I’m away. I don’t have a cat.

I just watch my yard/driveway. Who’s coming and going.
Watch the birdies at the feeder. Ok, it’s a Bird Buddy, not a security camera.
Watch the fishies in the the aquarium.
