My childhood friend’s parents had a cot that I used when I slept over. I thought it was cool, but it was only ever for one night.
My vote, however, is for trundle beds! I had one throughout college. Allowed for space in my tiny room during the day, but if anyone ever needed to crash there it was. Or if I needed to make my twin become a queen for those lucky times.
@katbyter Yes this is what I was going to say. Of course when I travel it’s my main bed. No weird hotel smells and bugs to deal with (well, maybe my own smells and bugs.) But I’ve used it at home as a spare bed for a number of reasons. Sometimes just “that’s where all my stuff is from the last trip.” It’s actually like my “home” now than the house I kind-of still or used-to live in.
Another bed.
/showme Murphy bed
When my brother visits, he prefers to sleep on the floor. He says it’s better for his back than a bed.
A trunk maybe.
There’s a huge difference in best kind of backup bed to have, and best kind to sleep on. Maybe there shouldn’t be, but w’all know it’s true.
Best kind to have : doesn’t get in my way for the other 99.9999% of the time it lives in my house.
Best kind of backup bed to sleep on : hotel
@Clumber yep no muss, no fuss, no setup of mattresses & tent! Plus no worries about the weather either.
The spare bedroom.
@hchavers yep!!!
A spare bed.
@famwelch yep.

The couch.
The kind that’s OK for a couple of nights, but the guest wouldn’t want to sleep on for any more than that.
A bed that can back up? Isn’t that a pickup truck? And with a camper top and a decent mattress, it’s not a bad place to sleep.
@rockblossom I agree, especially if us already setup & ready.
Camper in the driveway

I have a pull-out couch that I throw an air mattress on. Pull-outs tend to have awful mattresses.
The Hilton count?
@pakopako yep as do the chains, only the No tell, Motels are off limits!
