@Kyeh@PhysAssist I agree that excessively bitter beer is unpleasant. But as a home brewer and craft beer enthusiast, I also know that the various designer hop varietals available today have a whole range of flavor notes that maybe extracted with proper brewing techniques without adding extreme bitterness (although some tartness/bitterness is also desirable to balance the sweetness of the malt).
To each their own…
@macromeh@PhysAssist Just like the discussion about hot food, I know tastes vary widely, but I just don’t understand sour beers. And sour AND bitter - it just seems like something to avoid!
@Kyeh@PhysAssist I recently read about a study that claimed that people with psychopathic personalities tended to like bitter tastes more than average.
Hmm, checks out…
@werehatrack No objection; I prefer milk and have relatives who don’t like dark chocolate so milk is what we get. Just finished a box of orange jaffa cakes from Aldi (which are dark chocolate)
@duodec Their jaffa cakes are good, the raspberry ones in particular. We have a store down here called Phoenicia that stocks them in both milk and plain/dark chocolate.

A freshly baked buttery chocolate chip cookie washed down with a hoppy IPA.
@macromeh really? i mean is this like dark chocolate and red wine?
@macromeh Eeeewwwww- Sorry, but just citing an [crappy and bitter no matter what other designation you use] IPA makes this a non-starter.
Beer is meant to be malty.
Hops are just used because they’re supposed to keep it from going skunky- not as a primary flavoring agents.
You might as well start as trend of aging beer in used bourbon barrels- hey, wait a minute!?!?
Edit- This is just my rant because stores are full of IPA’s and Barrel-aged beers, with very few normal, which is to say malty, brews any more.
@macromeh @PhysAssist
I agree with this !
