Wow, that was awesome. I love Daylight Saving Time, I hate un-daylight saving time, which is what we just switched to. I'd much rather have it be dark in the mornings than already dark when I get home from work. We visit Arizona often for Sci Fi conventions in the summer, and we are always messed up trying to sort out what time it is there. We arrive at the event too early and then have to find a coffee shop to cool our heels in for an hour.
@moondrake I read an article a while back how it actually causes the nation a great deal of money to still use it because of the difference in energy costs. I wonder how it works out for those Arizonans that don't change their clocks at all.
@luvche21 I wonder which costs the extra money, the DST in the summer or the non-DST in the winter? I am not sure why it would cost more,other than the hours of time lost as everyone in the country has to change several clocks.
@moondrake DST in early spring and late fall, when people are getting up in the coldest part of the day, upping the thermostat, warming the car engine, etc. Extending DST actually caused more use of energy. I hate the extended DST. Last week, the kids on my (very rural) road were standing at the side of a very dark highway in 25 degree weather waiting for a school bus. At least today it was light out.
@moondrake, @rockblossom explained some of the issues from the article -- because when you wake up in the dark and cold, you use more heat and lights. Not to the annoyance for some.
That was funny. I don't care enough to have a strong opinion about it. Though I am savoring my re-found hour of sleep and trying to exploit the shifted schedule to be early/on-time to work. I have more important things to argue about, like toilet paper alignment and Coke-Pepsi-RC-Boylan.
@joelmw Everyone knows that the toilet paper flap goes over the roll, not under. As for soft drinks, Dr. Pepper is king in my mind, although I switched to Diet Coke a few years ago.
@jsh139 Nope, under. Easier to tear off. No carbonated prune juice for me either, root beer's my drink of choice. LOL, I guess we don't have too much in common.
@moondrake I'm just gonna pretend I didn't see that. I agree with your first comment, @jsh139. I was pretty much kidding: I don't think the Coke-Pepsi-et al. argument is worth having and I'm sure of the right way to manage the toilet paper.
@moondrake Okay, damnit: how is it easier to tear? I can tell you that over is preferred by professionals (I worked as a custodian while I was in school). And indeed, the fancy toilet paper point--indicating that a bathroom or stall has been serviced--only works with the paper over. It's just better access, less frustration, better appearance.
@joelmw What I really meant to say is that I'll stick to arguments about politics, because we know that people change their minds about that shit all of the time. I used to like arguing, until I met more stupid people. I blame the internet. And @cengland0, of course.
@joelmw The weight of the roll holds it in place, as opposed to the tendency to unroll more when it is over the top. The "point" for professinal servicing does make sense on top. But for my personal bathroom I prefer it under.
@joelmw Over the top is easier, but some people prefer it mounted the difficult way. The nice ones do it because they have a pet or small child that likes to unroll the paper. Others do it, because they don't want to load toilet paper as often. Some do it out of habit, because that's how they did it in their house growing up. They don't realize that they themselves were the toddler who caused it all. They don't need to do it anymore, now that they aren't a toddler.
OMG, hilarious!

"Jesus, you're back at the menu!"

@hamjudo @moondrake Both of those reasons actually make sense. Darn it. :-)
@moondrake I agree with both; under and root beer, Barq's.
@joelmw - I have a stand-alone TP holder. It allows access from either side.
@joelmw then there are some who just don't pay any attention to it and slap it on whichever way it happens to be.
Awesome video. Very well done.
I love Nathan Barnatt!
@Roocrow Looooousy... cheesy guy!
@jqubed I had to read that a couple of times before I got the pun.
@jqubed @moondrake there's almost always a relevant XKCD comic.
Great video !
"it's daylight saving. it's not plural."
-- that line made me literally lol at my desk.
Cool. Apart from that I have nothing of any value to add to this conversation.
@Teripie What? Are we supposed to say something valuable?
@joelmw Something valuable. sigh...
