I was gonna make rum fudge. I’m behind on all my cookies and doing them next week. I’m still gonna pass them out to people and I just like to bake.
Whatever someone else cooks…I am pretty exhausted from always being the one to do it all: shop, wrap, clean, cook…the best treat is the one someone else makes for me.
@2many2no@chienfou They are ok, and I especially like some years Walmart was clearancing them for 50 cents (one year even 25 cents) apiece. They have great shelf life so they were part of our pantry stores. But no comparison at all to home made.
Eggnog with captains. This year the little market up the road has expensive eggnog ($10 a half gallon) and it’s the best eggnog I’ve ever had in my whole life. It’s so creamy and flavorful. It’s gonna be hard to go back to the cheap shit.
My sister’s spiced crackers and a trash snack mix I make called Tijuana Trash… popcorn, tortilla chips, the usual cereal you find in chex mix, butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, chili powder and cinnamon.
Aldi Lov’n Fresh on some years offers different breakfast bread flavors for Christmas. This year was a repeat (Cranberry orange) along with a gingerbread loaf. A couple of years ago we got blueberry and lemon breads that were amazing. Great for french toast with the right syrup or toppings, and awesome toasted or just buttered with Kerrygold. Stuff sells out fast; I was lucky to snap up a few loaves.
They carry cinnamon raisin bread and apple strudel bread year round; those aren’t quite as magical…
I’ve bought these same ones before… they’re honestly (and surprisingly) good.
@haydesigner Same ones what? Have you been spiking the eggnog extra heavy and drinking it?
@yakkoTDI strange… this was a comment for the nose trimmers, not here. Clearly I must have fucked something up.
Eggnog Chai tea latte like my friend used to make at her coffee shop.
Wait - is there an edible form of Yule log? Is it like ants on a log?
@melonscoop it’s typically a rolled cake. Then decorated with icing to look like a tree.
@melonscoop @remo28 Sometimes they decorate them with frosting flowers and meringue mushrooms. Pretty and delicious.
@melonscoop @remo28 @sammydog01
I came to post a picture of that - the traditional French Bûche de Noël:

Here’s one i made a few years back…
@chienfou @melonscoop @remo28 @sammydog01 Looks professional!
And delicious!

It was a fun project for a dinner we had with friends a couple years ago…

Walmart being closed on Christmas Day so that both cashiers can be at home with their families.
@mike808 2 cashiers? You must have a fancy Walmart near you.
The model waiting for me under the tree, wrapped with only a bow.
Hot buttered rum!
Rum balls rolled in dark chocolate powder.
In Japan, Christmas isn’t such a bid deal, but they have a Christmas cake, usually white with strawberries on it.

@kjady And Sweet’s Chocolate Orange sticks.

The correct answer is fruitcake.
Go on, talk shit about it, but I’m still right.
@2many2no …Is that… Pepperoni?!
@2many2no Fuck yeah!
/youtube fruitcake superions
@2many2no My Mom made the best fruit cake. I can’t match it. But soaked in brandy and stored for at least a month before serving… such wonder.
@2many2no @duodec
Claxton is good store bought…

Agreed.
Like Rodney Dangerfield, fruitcake gets no respect.

Pfeffernüsse Spiced iced or powder sugar coated cookies.
Scones. Specifically Cranberry Ginger Orange scones. Easy to make, delightfully rich and decadent.
Definitely Turkey and gravy soda.
