@OnionSoup@stinks I don’t know if that shirt means “I survived eating Cicadas” or “I survived 2021” – reminds me of when that related mediocre Tee-shirt site sold “I survived 2020” shirts but it was still November 2020. A a number of people, including me, commented “not so soon – don’t jinx it; you still got 6 more weeks to go, THEN buy the shirt.” So based on not wanted to tempt fate, I wouldn’t buy that shirt yet. Oh, wait, we’re discussing cheap food here, not tee-shirt sales. nevermind…
What predominates in this question? If it’s the “cheap” part, none of the others get close to beating ramen, especially if you buy it in bulk, say at Sam’s. That gives you a (small) meal for under 19 cents!
I like livening mine up with something along the lines of about half a can of sweet peas or maybe some florets of broccoli. For something more substantial, throw in some small frozen shrimp – still fairly cheap – and doesn’t change the cooking time appreciably.
Mom’s post-Thanksgiving turkey and noodles, which I’ve posted before. Thanksgiving dinner is a close second.
Best dinner out was going to the Showboat Hotel dinner buffet where they had all you can eat crab legs and shrimp while you played Keno… but that was a long time ago.
@duodec P.S. even though they served lobster and shrimp, my decidedly thrifty Dad happily took the whole family to the Showboat buffet for dinner at least once a month for several years because it was priced quite reasonably.
@mbersiam I still sometimes see good prices on some meat items, but rarely, and it seems most of the in-demand steak cuts and of course filet mignon are now about double what they were 15 months ago. No real explanation for why that is. Or why gas is almost as high as when Oil was >$110/bbl (2011 I think), but now it’s $73/bbl and gas prices are just about as high.
Boxed mac 'n cheese
A meal at someone else’s place!
No cost and only sometimes you need to help cleaning.
