I didn't even know this was coming back until yesterday! It was on at my father-in-law's house while we were having a small fathers day party, so I saw it but didn't give my full attention. I also recorded it at home, and plan to watch it again with my son tonight. I'm definitely looking forward to watching it while giving my full attention!
Watched it, loved it. It needs lots fewer reaction shots -- I think a good rule of thumb is "if robots are fighting, show us that" -- but each fight had its own character and there were some real surprises.
I hope this brings some seeders back to the dead torrents of old episodes because I'd love to see them. Also, my account was hacked, and I have no idea who typed that sentence or what it means.
I loved the original show years ago and found after watching last night that my desire to build a battlebot has not subsided. However, my building skills have not grown to match my desire.
Someone should build one from meh.com items... A knife-laden Roomba/Neato, perhaps? A spiked Sphero death ball? Or maybe just a mini quad copter with razor sharp props?
Maybe have meh staffers build some and battle in the next labstream.
Sadly I missed it... I was at an Awesome Weird Al Concert instead. My one question about the new incarnation: are Savage/Hyneman/Imahara involved this go round?
@earlyre They talked about it on Savages podcast. He and the walrus are officially retired from competition, and he couldnt make this filming, but Adam hopes to attend the next taping.
@editorkid He hoped, I believe. Ratings were strong though, so if that keeps up we may get more/bigger seasons. This season was very last minute, only heavyweights.
@MrGlass If I know about the next season early enough, I would definitely try to attend a taping. It looks like we could have a pretty decent Meh get-together there, too. This thread's a fun read.
@thismyusername He opens the show with Tacky. up on the video screen, he does a similar sinlge shot from outside the arena, making his way to the stage by the end of the song. (wearing that same outfit from the beginning of the video)
they taped the show at the old Naval shipyards in Vallejo- we went to the taping of the finale- and some of the carnage is awesome... they had to replace a few sections of the stage.
Grant Imahara is the host on the soon to be released Robogames DVD. Different event, though very similar in format and was also held in the Bay Area this spring.
Tuned in late. Did they explain how/why Warrior Clan complied to the rules? Can multiple bots count as a single entry as long the sum weight is less than the maximum limit?
@medz Even the single bots ussually have 2 or 3 drivers. I saw one guy saying there was a driver for movement, 2 guys controlling weapons, and 1 guy controlling the lights :P
@medz I think the only rules might be (and this is just my assumption) that there can be multiple bots and multiple drivers, as long as they are under the total weight limit.. Also, that one bot has to be designated as the "main" bot, and if it dies then the match is lost. The only part that really seems like it would be unfair is if the opponent had to destroy every tiny bot in the ring.. Overall, the more mass you take off the main bot, the less fighting power it has.. So I don't think that the mini bots are that useful other than looking neat.
And there are many other videos uploaded, including some of the complete episode, since ABC took one of Comedy Central's cheesier tricks and just showed quick summaries of four matches.
I seem to be in the minority here, but I thought Hutson should have been penalized or disqualified for continuing to attack after the buzzer. I know he's a fan fave, but he's no rookie, and his apology was a big cup of weak tea. The two bots were feet apart when the buzzer sounded and it's hard to imagine how he could miss it, especially with the clocks on the perimeter too. Glad the MIT kids got a wild card, and I would have done what they did.

Thanks for reminding me- this will be must-see TV at the dog house.
@sammydog01 Fun fact: I went to a sports bar named the dog house last ngiht to watch it. Had to fight with a jock to get it on a TV, too

@editorkid
@JonT I have no idea who you are or what "crime" even means, either. Is that even English?

@earlyre Not yet, anyway. I have a feeling that if they were, we'd already know about it. But we can hope for a cool surprise.

@earlyre my first-ever concert was a Weird Al concert! Woo! Yoda orange soda!
@earlyre we were at the finale taping, and asked- they were not involved at all, but they did get a royalty check.
@earlyre Available online: http://abc.go.com/shows/battlebots
and here: http://www.hulu.com/watch/808016
and for good measure
@MrGlass Are you burying the lead here, that it's already been decided there'll be another season? He hoped?

It looks like the fights are all available on youtube.. Here's the best one (which also happened to be the first one):
@kadagan Thanks! I tuned in late and missed that fight.
@JohT, I'm standing by for the Battlebots.Horse forum to open so I can start posting my Battlebot build pics... ;-)
@ruouttaurmind tagging @jont so he sees your response...
@mikibell Thanks for the hand! I just noticed my typo!
@ruouttaurmind I always misspell his name, too..
@mikibell I always want to type jaunt...but pronounce it like gaunt (ɡônt) ...weird.
@ruouttaurmind why wait!? Make a topic here for your Battlebots build pics, I'm sure we'd all love to see that! :D
Did not know that Battlebots was back. Must. Contain. Excitement.
I preferred Robot Wars with Craig Charles. I think I even have some of the house robots from McDonalds happy meals still around.

@DrWorm I assume that they can.. Plan X also had 2 minibots. I still haven't found the exact regulations anywhere.
@DrWorm I assumed the rules would be you could only have 1 "pilot" driving the bot. Maybe one dude was driving all of them...
@medz not in the case of PlanX. She kept yelling for one of the other bots to bump into her to get her unstuck, so a teammate was controlling it.
@DrWorm Not sure what the rule is, but there are a few with multiple bots. I did hear about a weight limit (250 pounds i think?).

Found this from the original series: Battlebot Rules
I always wanted to make one, and call it Bolo Mk XXXI, (CSU for short... thats Continental Siege Unit for those who haven't read Laumer).
Last night's matches, if anyone missed 'em:
Ghost Raptor vs Complete Control
Tombstone vs Counter Revolution
Overhaul vs Lock-jaw
Bronco vs Witch Doctor
And there are many other videos uploaded, including some of the complete episode, since ABC took one of Comedy Central's cheesier tricks and just showed quick summaries of four matches.
@editorkid Tombstone tho
Spoiler alert --
