@fuzzmanmatt lol - well, having residences on both the shores of Lake Erie (where I grew up) and Gulf coastal Florida (where I fled to after 47 winters) we’ll simply have to disagree on that one.
@Pufferfishy OK, Lake Erie only counts as a Great Lake because they drain into them. It’s really unpleasant otherwise. Mostly Lake Michigan is nice. Caseville on Lake Huron. I’ll take a pass on going to the swamps on most of the rest of the east side of Michigan, and Lake Superior is beautiful, but just too damn cold to enjoy. So yeah, Lake Michigan has a beautiful coastline with amazing beaches that rival anything in California with no sharks or salt water or hurricanes that are nice and warm for three months out of the year.
@fuzzmanmatt While I agree that Michigan has some gorgeous locales, particularly near the islands, to dis Erie is fairly baseless - they’re just as nice in numerous places.
Still - I’ll take the worst beach in Clearwater and day of the week… particularly if that week falls between October and June…
AND I GOT A BIT
And I’ve got something
TO AID YOU TO YEN
To help you understand
ALL DAY IT CAN SIT
Something waiting there
BY THE SEA YOU DIG
Beneath the sand
MY HID TIN EAR
My metal detector
IS ON ME ALL DAY
Is with me all of the time
I’M THE EYE GUY ON THE ORE PIT
I’m the inspector over the mine
That’s what I’m talking about! Mr.Meh has got his mojo back!
I don’t know why I have this metal detector fantasy…I remember, as a kid, the day after the county fair left, there was always some guy with one of these going over the ground where the Salt and Pepper ride was. That ride was about the best for shaking change outta people.
Ok I have no desire to look for burried treasure but I’m sure some love it, I go to the beach 4 days a week here on Long Island NY, but there are these two old timers that I see every time I go there with the metal detectors so I see them approx 300 feet away and I go to the waterline and verticle to their hunt and I drop about 20 coins about $1.00 well they get so excited and I can see it clearly made their day and that my friends is worth more then I spent LoL. Meh, This is not the deep Mehead prices we like and deserve … AT 35 I would have bought it as a present …but ty for the effort and new items Now if you can sell a bullshit detector I’m all in lol
Pro tip no one asked for your tips and no one twisted your arm to read my comment …Nothing worse than an english major begging for attention like you are doing !!!PUNCTUATE THAT
@mcanavino Why? No one here knows who I am or anything about me, and people have seen me use my metal detector in public. (it’s really hard to use it without people seeing you) I don’t understand what you mean.
@sammydog01 Lots of coins and jewelry. old metal buttons, a few Civil War artifacts years ago (buttons, rounds, etc.), keys. Stuff like that. Then there’s the weird stuff, like a huge serving tray (like they have in lunchrooms, plastic with reinforcement around the edge), tools, wire, hubcaps, wheels… all kinds of things.
The one that scared me the most was a pipe that I found in my back yard. I dug down to see what it was. I thought it might be a gas line or something, so I called the gas company. Poor kid was as scared as I was. He finally just pulled it up and it was just an old pipe, but he had even given me a message for his wife if it turned out badly. I don’t dig much in my yard anymore. lol
The fun part is that you just never know. You might not find anything, or there might be a nice ring or watch. Coins are always nice! Esp. silver!
I’m thinking of joining a club. It could be fun to have some company.
@sammydog01 Yes, but you have to know your city’s laws about it. For example, you can’t use them in federal parks without a permit. If you do and get caught, you can lose your detector, your car, your possessions…they go after everything. The best way to is go on private property, getting permission from the owner, or parks where you’re allowed to use them. Beaches are fun (and you can find a lot), or camp grounds, if they’re allowed. Some people go to ‘ghost towns’ and hunt there…places like that.
A lot of places have clubs that you can join and the club will find places for you to go and hunt. I’m trying to find one that’s active here in Dallas.
I wanted one real bad when I was 12. First impulse was to BUY IT. But then I’m wondering how many hours at the beach would I have to spend to make the $55 I spent on it. Then I thought about those hours & what they are actually worth to me. How much do these metal detectors find in a couple hours?
@Joedetroit- This comment is confusing unless you were 13 last night because this item was not offered at $54, or $55 when you were actually 12. I’m just saying,… The chances of that coincidence is astronuamical. This would make the whole statement invalid, unless it was a hyperbolic joke!! If so, LOL!!
@decoratedwarvet@Joedetroit it was pretty clear the $55 is referring to the shipping price of today’s item. Were you trying to be a jerk hiding behind a LOL? Hahaha, ROTFLMAO!
Series one of Detectorists was met with positive reviews from a number of UK and US media outlets. David Renshaw, writing for The Guardian, had particular praise for the “delightful double-act” Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones. Renshaw points to the “biggest ratings BBC4 has ever had for a comedy” as evidence that “Detectorists has clearly struck the sort of gold that Lance and Andy spend hours sweeping the fields for”.[43] Rupert Hawksley, writing for The Daily Telegraph, was particularly impressed with Crook’s “first-rate writing” and remarked in his review that series one “has all the markings of a classic sitcom”.[44]
Ellen E. Jones of The Independent said that while the show “requires some patience … it has turned out to be one of the best new sitcoms of the year”.[45]
In the US media, The New York Times writer Mike Hale describes Detectorists as a “distinctive creation – not for everyone, but bound to be fiercely loved by those who fall into its rhythms”.[46] Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times “can’t recommend it enough”, saying: “Like the ordinary lives it magnifies, Detectorists has the air of seeming to be small and immense at once, to be about hardly anything and almost everything. It is full of space and packed with life.”[41]
And Diana Rigg is in it. That’s a name I’d not heard in a long time.
Si, si, I am intrigued. Though not quite very intrigued.
I really enjoyed Detectorists, it’s very well written and acted. Season/series 1 was fun and season 2 really rounded out the characters more. It’s always really nice to see character actors have a turn as leading men. I can’t wait for season 3 to hit Netflix. I hope there is more Russell and Hugh next season. Thank heavens for Netflix, I love me some Britcoms and British murder mysteries. /giphy detectorists
I actually do need one… but I want a better one. Some guy showed up here yrs ago with maps and all and asked if he could roam a bit with a detector and hubby told him yeah. He found a few things… musket balls (or some such) belt buckles and some odd bits. Seems a civil war battle was fought in this vicinity and partly on our land. So I thought it might be fun to see if he left anything behind.
@lseeber This is the type of thing that I would actually want to play with one of these for. There’s nothing like that around me, but if I was in an area with a rich history I might consider buying one of these.
@medz lol - I got sucked into a “magnet fishing hole” one afternoon - ended up watching a slew from 2 Brit guys that seemed to find mostly shopping trolleys.
I was just wondering what method, or system is used too attract metals because I know Gold & good Sterling, or 925 Silver is not magnetic, and probably not electro-magnetic. I’m just saying,…

This’ll really test yer mettle.
@shahnm—Too, Too Late; my mettle was tested over 46 years ago!!
@decoratedwarvet My deepest gratitude, sir!
Heavy metal fans I guess -
When you sell the leftovers for 15 bucks I’m in.
I have a Fisher F2 I never use - no thanks.
@juststephen That’s a real metal detector!
I really wanted one of these as a child. I’m so glad my parents had the good sense to not buy me one.
Is the beach included?
I had a cheapo metal detector when I was a kid. Wasn’t as entertaining as I thought it would be.
/giphy metal detector
@awk Same - I had a Radio Shack cheapie and it was more horrible Theremin than it was a metal detector.
@awk @Pufferfishy
Think I had the same one! Orange handle?
@awk @w_a_w TBH I don’t really recall, it was a VERY long time ago…
I guess there’s treasure in the great lakes
@Seeds Yeah - beaches
@Pufferfishy @Seeds better beaches than anywhere else in the Continental United States! At least when they aren’t covered with ice anyway.
@Seeds lol yeah, and first thaw or right after a big storm are the best times to look for goodies. Best time for beach glass too!

Agree to disagree on the quality of Erie beaches:
@fuzzmanmatt While I agree that Michigan has some gorgeous locales, particularly near the islands, to dis Erie is fairly baseless - they’re just as nice in numerous places.
Still - I’ll take the worst beach in Clearwater and day of the week… particularly if that week falls between October and June…
The first season of Detectorists had it’s moments, and I sort of loved/hated how it ended. Have yet to watch any newer episodes yet tho
So less than a third off something that only gets 3.5 stars on Amazon. You’re slipping meh. I’ll take a hard pass on this one.
@SnakeJG I guess you could say you didn’t really DETECT a lot of value here.
@awk @SnakeJG Hey I hear something! " Me…me…me…me.mememe Meh"
Barely even discounted, would never use.
MEH IT TO HELL!
I liked the show “Diggers”. They were quirky. Alas, it is gone - so many others might not of.
"Sweet Nectar!"
@mfladd Those guys were such goofs…I stilled watched for the laughs.
I would buy this but I have to find the money first.
Barska. The quality goes out before the name goes on…
these make really shitty margaritas.
@alacrity Especially if you forget to clean off the sand first.
@mehcuda67 nah- that makes 'em “mineral enriched” and crunchy. Some like that… not us, but there’s always a few weird ones out there…
Had me at Bar. Lost me at Ska Metal Detector.

Can I find my lost Bitcoins with this?
@hchavers two bit coins…yes
I have a Bounty and they can be a lot of fun, if you find someplace that’s good to hunt. I’ve found some neat stuff with mine through the years.
@Tadlem43 You might not want to be advertising that. And probably avoid public places like beaches some your could be recognized.
@mcanavino Why? No one here knows who I am or anything about me, and people have seen me use my metal detector in public. (it’s really hard to use it without people seeing you) I don’t understand what you mean.
@Tadlem43 I think it’s cool that you have a hobby. What have you found?

@Tadlem43 Sounds fun! Do you go to parks or somewhere like that?
@sammydog01 Yes, but you have to know your city’s laws about it. For example, you can’t use them in federal parks without a permit. Use some common sense Meh. When the discount is so meager so is the appeal. You are slipping into an online Tuesday Morning.
If he likes that BBC show, @dave should check out some “magnet fishing” videos on youtube.
@medz lol - I got sucked into a “magnet fishing hole” one afternoon - ended up watching a slew from 2 Brit guys that seemed to find mostly shopping trolleys.
@Pufferfishy if you ever posting about it here, I probably have you to blame for falling down that rabbit hole.
