@Kyeh@yakkoTDI TBH, I find a lot of the traditional classics annoying (prob cuz they’re played on an endless loop this time of year), i tend to prefer the super old, medieval-era stuff, or newer ones that are offbeat, comedic or in an unexpected genre, but this one is a sentimental thing for me.
@ircon96@Kyeh@yakkoTDI so funny story about LDB. When I was a kid there was this house wwaayyyy out in the country and the owners decorated acres of land and would give tours at Christmas. After they had cookies and hot coco inside next to a warm fire.
So my parents take my sis and myself. It was fantastic!! In the middle of the tour the old guy asks all us kids if anyone could sing LDB, the whole song, he would give them a whole $1 right on the spot!!! Nope, no one could do it. And we were all bummed, it was a WHOLE DOLLAR! He showed us, we saw it!!
SO, Jan - Dec my sis practiced and practiced and practiced until she had every last word down, perfect. She was so excited, she was gonna get that dollar. For whatever reason we never went back My parents never took us back!! No idea why. All these years later she still complains, but she can do a mean LDB solo lol. We make her sing it every year, and no none of us ever give her a dollar haha
@Kyeh@tinamarie1974@yakkoTDI That’s adorable, sounds like a good subject for a children’s storybook &/or short film. As for more practical matters, if you guys add up all the dollars you owe her & adjust for inflation, you might have to start a GoFundMe or something!
What utterly baffles me is that there are a number of covers of The Seasonal Song That Shall Not Be Mentioned (which needs to get whammed repeatedly and energetically until no trace of it can be detected).
I like songs Wonderful Christmastime and The Little Drummer Boy. These are far from the worst.
