Are you supposed to respond to support emails in the same email thread or what?
1I am wondering because it says "Type your response ABOVE THIS LINE to reply," even though responding above quoted mail-thread history seems to be more or less automatic when replying to an email. Is there something special I have to do, or is this just stating the obvious?

It's just stating the obvious. Some people don't understand how email works. Really.
@Thumperchick it's stating their preferred convention. Over the years I have seen top, bottom, and interleaved (inline) replies.
@Thumperchick and some people are proud they've never sent an email. http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/09/lindsey-graham-never-sent-email/
@Thumperchick Okay, thanks.
Sometimes at work, I send people a list of questions I need answered. When they respond, they type their answers in the body of my original message. It's annoys me but I deal with it.
I would rather they copied my questions and pasted it into their own "reply area" and then typed their answers. Please don't modify my original message!!!!
@cengland0 Your original message is untouched. Whatever they send in response has a different Message-ID in the header.
@nadroj I know, it just bothers me more than it should.
@cengland0 :D
@cengland0 Yeah, that pisses me off too. I saw it just today. They like to respond inbetween what I wrote, and highlight their response in red, like they are grading it or something.
@lichme Exactly. At least someone understands me. :)
@lichme Bringing back bad memories from school, eh? :-P
