I used to love winter when I lived in Washington State, but Colorado winters are not so happy for me. Summers here suck too. I kind of just hate living in Colorado, I guess.
@Pony
Met SWMBO while we lived in Boulder. Would have stayed but property in the area is way too expensive so we moved to the Midwest and now in Central Alabama. We loved Colorado due to the options for all the outside activities that were available. The beautiful scenery didn’t hurt either! Did a ton of picnics out of the back end of her Dodge van in the late seventies around Boulder in the mountains.
@chienfou@Pony My youngest daughter, born and raised in (mild) NW Oregon, followed her boyfriend to the Denver area after college. She’s really into outdoor activities and loves that part of it 3/4 of the year, but really hates the winters there.
@chienfou@macromeh Outdoor activities would have interested me when I was young, but now I’m old, sick and disabled. Not to mention dependent on supplemental oxygen. (Have lung disease? Move to Colorado! That’s a GREAT idea!)
No, being from Chicago with the below zero wind you tend to hate winter early in in life, at least i did and if you have to work outside during winter “fugitive bout it”.
@Georget5145 my husband keeps trying to convince me we should move back because winters “aren’t that bad,” or I could just spend life indoors in the winter, but as much as I love and miss Chicago, I can’t in good conscience say I want to experience those winters regularly, ever.
I’ve heard it said that the people who populated Chicago were from NYC. They loved the congestion, filth, and crime, but needed a place with worse weather to complete their misery…
I like the cold that we get here in the higher desert. I’m just sad I can’t run in it.
I’ve been battling plantar fasciitis since March and haven’t trained since July. I’m finally seeing a podiatrist today.
Winter is my time to accomplish a few things inside the house. I pretty much abandoned my office and some of the electronics projects (like changing out my desktop computer) due to Summer weather, pool time, outside chores, and travels. The next two or three months should be a bit more conducive to accomplishing a major shoveling out and organizing of the office space as well as hopefully allowing me to get my new desktop installed and up and running so I can get to my Plex again. Also have a tablet that I need to transfer data (from this one) on to. Migrating electronics is one of my least favorite tasks. I still have a phone I bought for my wife months ago that we haven’t transferred all her data to so that needs to be accomplished as well.
Plus the obligatory end of year financial stuff and prepping for tax season is always a PITA but requires inside time
I love winter in NorCal. I get to wear sweatshirts and fall asleep to the rain outside and I am not sweating bullets just walking up and downstairs in my home.
It’s nice because it kills off the 'skeeters, but right now my furnace is barely hanging on, so I’m rooting for record warmth. Or the global warming Al Gore promised …
@IWUJackson Not sure I would blame good ol’ Al (maybe you meant Al Roker?). The promised climate change is definitely here. Need continuous AC for months in Summer when it used to be a few weeks. Also remember it just translates to more extreme weather, not always “warm.” So severe blizzards and more “arctic blasts” are expected and have been happening.
@pmarin “the promised climate change is definitely here”
I’m referring to the alarm-ism and extremist rhetoric in “Inconvenient Truth” and it’s promotion. Also, not all of the promises did come true. Certainly warmer temperatures have happened. Definitely impacts are being made. However, some of the pieces have definitely not occurred. A few specifically, we haven’t hit 600ppm CO2 yet, areas of New York City that were predicted to be underwater aren’t, and the cataclysmic ice shelf that could raise sea levels “as much as 20 feet” didn’t happen on their timeline either.
I do blame Al (and others like him) who spread these hyped-up possibilities that were only at the extreme end of potential. It’s because of that, I believe, that there’s so much resistance to things that ARE true and actually backed by real scientific findings. But I’m a science nerd, not a politician, so perhaps I just don’t know how to “sell it.”
no it’s too cold. And my arthritis is even more awful in cold or wet weather. Also if it gets icy or we get much snow, it’s hard to go anywhere. (I don’t drive but go some places with my sister)
I’m not a huge fan of the snow (yeah, I live in Colorado but don’t ski or snowboard.) But we desperately need some rain & snow because it’s been a long warm super-dry autumn. Scary for fire danger. Even Hawaii has had snow by now!
Charlie didnt seem to mind them when we did the “dry run” yesterday. And he ended up runing around the yard to chase the Amazon truck that was driving by.
I, however, giggle when I look at the pics. To me it looks like he is wearing thigh high boots
Winter weather is my time to shine. I can wear all my favorite cozy things and do all my favorite cozy activities without sweating to death or being eaten alive by mosquitoes. The ‘ber months and the ‘ary months are the best months on the calendar!
Yes. West Central Florida is a little less sweaty in the “Winter”.
I don’t like feeling cold. I’m in the Northeast.
@andyw You might want to move somewhere warmer then. This happens every year up here.
I always look forward to winter weather, because it is not summer weather!
My natural insulation is great for winter freeze, not so good for summer steam.

But, but, but,… that’s ski season!!

@macromeh @Pony
yeah… we took my MIL to Machu Piccu with lung cancer… I know what you mean (TBH it was her idea).
@chienfou
Yeah… she’s not that keen on skiing to work…
Grew up in the tropics. Now I live in the Midwest, I hate feeling cold and miserable.
I Live in South Texas. I can’t wait for cooler weather, not Air you can wear. We were at 96 the other day. Hello God! It’s November…

@Georget5145
That’s me! Imma winter fugitive. If I don’t need to get out and about, you’ll find me bundled up in my nice, heated, comfortable home with the cats.

Winter (any time it’s cold really) is the only comfortable time for me, because I can finally wear my thick comfy clothes and not sweat buckets.
@zzzozzzozzz
/showme a cartoon cat in the jungle wearing sweat buckets
@mediocrebot
Yeah… Not what I envisioned
@chienfou @mediocrebot I was hoping for actual buckets.
@mediocrebot @yakkoTDI
Me too…
/showme a jungle cat perspiring miniature buckets from their fur
Two words: Cross Country Skiing.
@shanesny
Three?
@shanesny
Do we get pick which two of the three?

@kittykat9180 I will add a little extra to my cycling route for you.
@yakkoTDI thanks.
I ride my bike on weekends but I’m getting sick of it. I much prefer to run.
minimal insects

@jitc I grew up in Shasta County, summers were like living in hell.

Southerner who hates the cold.
It’s hot and getting hotter, and staying hotter for longer. We need cold. I love cold. Cold rules!!!
Most of the year is my ill-tempered endurance of any day above 62F

What is this winter weather that you speak of?
I am and Charliedoggo just got some fancy suspender pants to protect his special paw when it decides to snow here.
@tinamarie1974 {{{Charliedoggo}}} Adorable!
@therealjrn
Charlie didnt seem to mind them when we did the “dry run” yesterday. And he ended up runing around the yard to chase the Amazon truck that was driving by.

@tinamarie1974 Well, Charlie looks pretty darn good in stripper boots…just sayin’.
@therealjrn @tinamarie1974 So funny & so cute! I’m glad he seems okay with them.
I saw a dog stuffie at Target that reminded me of Charlie.
@Kyeh @therealjrn aawww so cute and it does favor Charlie!!!
