@pakopako
I used to do that when I was WAY younger, like pre 25 years old. I’d volunteer to work all of the holidays so that people with small kids and families could be home with them!
@Lynnerizer@pakopako Yeah I remember that; we were at a fairly generous Silicon Valley business (also I think there were some legal issues that required it) so if you agreed to be “on call” over a holiday there was special assignment what we called “beeper pay” (remember that? Those were the days). But yeah had to get on phone to Asia or Europe overnight many times, and in some cases on a plane. It was fun and exciting at the time. Nope, wouldn’t do it now.
@pakopako@pmarin
I never had anything that exciting, no airplane trips, not sure I even traveled more than 1.5 hours for work but I always appreciated the good pay and liked the feeling of giving someone the gift of being home with their family.
Just NOT too soon! I’m seeing full Christmas displays going up at my local mall at multiple stores. Is it not the first day of Autumn on Monday??? Celebrate Fall…Let’s challenge everyone to get 100 miles of hikes in before it snows. Hallmark starting its Christmas movies in a couple weeks? NOOOOOOO!!!
I want to celebrate FALL! Halloween! Turkey Day!
Not a pumpkin spice fan but love the smell of cinnamon apple sauce and cider doughnuts. Hot or cold cider. Put Christmas on hold till after Thanksgiving and Black Friday! Love the gathering of family and friends!
@chienfou@jkawaguchi We’re going to upstate NY from early through mid-October, and we’re hoping for a LOT of good hikes, enjoying Autumn in all its splendor. We have heard they’ve been quite dry, so some of the waterfalls we were hoping to see are more trickle than fall.
@jkawaguchi@tohar1
We (2 couples) fly into Albany on the 3rd and fly home on the 13th. Hopefully we’ll see some fall color, but if it’s been super dry that may be a big impact. At any rate we’re going to have fun while we’re up there!
As I recall, Christmas was a lot more fun when it was in the summer time (I lived in the southern hemisphere as a young child).
Or maybe I’m just jaded after so many Christmases past.
@macromeh I always thought that would be strange, or maybe interesting…As someone who grew up in MN & ND, all my Christmases were primarily snow/cold, etc.
I like the holidays, but I loathe the expectations that surround them. So many things I’m asked to do, so many events to volunteer for, so much my kids want to have as decorations around the house. Also, can we just experience fall and celebrate Halloween first? Kthxbye
Yes.
I work retail customer service, so no.
More time-off from work. What is not to like? Oh yeah, more time with family.
Meh.
I’ve lost track. What’s the current season, as in 6 months from now?
It’s opposite day for me;
I pick up the slack for others, so holidays are more hours and less sleep.

I have to drive 4-5 hours to get home now, suppose I could take a train but that’s a zoo. I’m no longer a fan. Meh.

@tohar1 At least Tampa Theatre is celebrating Halloween.

@yakkoTDI I could definitely dig that! I miss going to scary movies at the theatre. Now, it seems they only peddle gore, instead of spooky/scary…

@jkawaguchi …and the congregation said, “AMEN!!”
@jkawaguchi @tohar1
Headed to the Berkshires in 2 weeks and looking forward to the cider donuts, oh, and the fall colors.

@chienfou @jkawaguchi You should hit that sweet spot for sure. Happy Fall trekking!! NY Fall color report

Yeah, pretty jazzed. Last year we were in the Poconos. It was lovely as well.
