Thanksgiving is always the time I’m with my daughter. Mostly it’s that. But I also love that there’s no nonsense with gifts and assorted other Christmas dram. Thanksgiving for me is just family, food and relaxation. It’s the absolute best.
We used to do the Black Friday thing and we have some great memories of our adventures. And spare me your pious opinions about Black Friday. We maybe saw a few unpleasant human interactions, but mostly not. And we certainly never felt any need to be anything other than civil ourselves. It wasn’t about the deals; it was about being together in line, talking in the car, going out to breakfast. Interacting pleasantly with strangers.
I used to love Thanksgiving. Then I had kids. I put in all the work to make all the stuff, and they eat cranberry sauce and maybe some turkey. It’s just been a disappointment the last few years where I feel overworked and unappreciated.
@jitc this makes me sad. are the kids old enough to help? is it worth it to say phuck it and only make a turkey and cranberry sauce? can anyone else assist with the work? hope it’s a happier holiday for you this year.
@catthegreat it’s sad because I really love all the components of the T-Day dinner, but I just wind up feeling like I’m the only one. I swear I’m not a bad cook, haha. Maybe I’ll see if I can get the kids involved this year. The only issue with that is that at their ages, it’s more work to have their “help” than to not.
I love to have our family and their partners and cook together, play games and just spend time together. I like watching all of the great TV from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade to the football games. I love passing around the sale ads but not leaving to go shopping until Friday. Then having wonderful leftovers and naps.
I would like to be. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love the food, the din of it, the music…all of it.
But now that I’m alone, it’s just empty. A lot of memories, but that’s not always a comforting thing. Some years, it makes it hard to bear.
I used to LOVE Thanksgiving! Good times spent visiting with family, and the good food that that’s specifically prepared for each of us. (Along with the traditional thanksgiving meal my mom makes our favorite, usually syrian/lebanese dish.) There’s always tons of leftovers, enough for all of us to eat for the week! A true feast! These days, some out of state family members just can’t make the trip so the guest list has changed. My sister now hosts, the ride there is a little longer, our dad is no longer with us, and neither is my mom’s husband. My health isn’t very good lately and I’m in a lot of pain, just getting dressed and ready to go takes big effort. BUT… (there’s always that darn "but…")
While I can sit here being that negative Nancy complaining about ALL of the things that have changed I’m the ONLY one who is suffering and miserable! I also KNOW that I’m the ONLY one who can change it!
I know darn well that when the day is done I’ll be sitting back at home on my couch reflecting on what a spectacular and beautiful day I had, and how EVERYTHING was SO WORTH IT! My heart will be full of love and gratitude to have such an amazing family and to have pushed through and spent what could be one of the last times with some of the most important people in the world to me!
So YEAH, I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving!
Fond memories of family (most no longer around) and home cooking [burp].
Family and food. Can you guess my answer?
My excitement for November is in an entirely different direction.
Thanksgiving is the holiday that you can literally tell people to “GET STUFFED “

No, have to drive 7 hours in the snow to watch my mom eat a baked potato with her hands cuz she can’t cut it and nobody else would do it correctly
I once liked Thanksgiving, now I just work the day and enjoy seeing others happy
My Thanksgiving was a few weeks ago. Still not sure what will happen this year.
Food. I fucking love turkey and stuffing (homemade). Plus you can eat multiple desserts guilt free.

It just means cold weather.
Thanksgiving is when I stock up on heavily discounted turkey at the grocery store the next day, it has no other significance to me.

A day that the nation theoretically sets aside to take stock of its blessings and give thanks for them is neat. It’d be cooler if we did more of that.
My BIL/SIL are hosting this year and doing teppanyaki. I can’t wait for my Thanksgiving scallops and just hanging out with family!
@mikey ok, what’s teppanyaki?
@catthegreat Like benihana, if you’re familiar with that. Everyone sits around a giant griddle and the chef cooks the food in front of you.

@Lynnerizer To me, it sounds like you STILL love Thanksgiving. Now it’s just “love with baggage”.
@mikey Exactly!
