Little less. Not so much money to throw around. But I’m waiting on my pineapple pool floats to arrive and one of those bad boys is going to be incorporated in my halloween->holidays segue decorations and I’ll post pix.
Grabbed almost the last tree on the xmas lot, had a shortage and some lots not showing up this year. Who knows if it will actually get decorated, but it smells good
@DLPanther We go to the same U-Cut tree farm every year. On a hunch, we went a week earlier than usual this year for our tree. I just noticed on their Facebook page that they closed for the season on the 6th, a couple weeks earlier than usual. Good thing we broke with tradition.
@Wookee@zinimusprime Hopefully this one will be the last you go through. I had 3 meniscal tears repaired 5 years ago and recovered quickly and well. Hopefully you will this year.
Less. I’d like to put lights up on the roof, but we had some minor damage from a couple of the hurricanes this season and I expect the insurance check to arrive any day now. Roof repairs will likely occur between now and Christmas, and if I can’t put lights on the roof, I’m disinclined to haul them out of storage to put them anywhere else. The impending roof repairs are giving me the perfect excuse to be lazy this year.
@kittykat9180 Yup. Same. I’m too lazy to put up decorations, too cheap to buy decorations, and have nowhere in my tiny-ass apartment to store decorations, so why bother?
@sanspoint, a lot of that for me, especially the cheap part. Lol
But also I started questioning the whole Christmas thing when I was a teenager. When I turned 18 and moved out I quit celebrating it.
To be honest, I like the premise of Saturnalia but Christians highjacked it and commercialized it, ruining Saturnalia. If we eliminated gift giving and anything to do with Santa, I would probably get on board.
I love Christmas decorations better than ice cream but I am enjoying others displays from afar. I bought a beautiful red poinsettia for the tea cart and added sparkly garland around it. Added a electric candle for backlight and made hot cocoa.

Less. New owners of this apt building said we aren’t allowed to have any christmas lights decorating windows inside or out, no battery candles or anything else on the window sills, no christmas decorations hanging from the curtain rods or even pre-existing to them buying this place hooks in the ceilings, nothing on the door or or hanging from the door knob or door knocker even if the door has pre-existing nails as all of them do, and no christmas mats outside of our doors (they banned mats earlier). Oh and no christmas trees in front of either of the 2 windows - they have to be at least 6’ away from them (umm these apartments are so small that is a problem).
New owners are real assholes christmas scrooges. Of course the same rules held for halloween decorations (and any other decorations at any other time of the year). Violate them and you get a lease violation. Three lease violations and you are evicted. They gave us a 20 page, 10 point type, single spaced, in paragraph form paper telling us all the things we can’t do and will get lease violations if we do. There were 73 numbered paragraphs listing tons of things in each one. It is our belief that no breathing is buried in that document somewhere too .
@fairchild521 I have no clue. They own 70+ private hud in this country and they behave as if they wished we’d pay the rent but otherwise act like we are frozen in place stone statues that didn’t use any utilities, didn’t do anything. All they care about is money. They can’t hang on to staff either so I’d guess they treat them just as poorly.
We didn’t make a conscious decision to do less, but I think at least on a subconscious level, it winds up being less because we will not be having visitors
I had all intentions of doing more this year. And maybe I still will, I haven’t put the totes away yet. But I’m struggling to stay positive this month and so I’ve put up less than most years.
about the same. we live in a small one bedroom attic apartment so i don’t like to do too much to begin with - it can quickly go from festive af to overwhelming. i mostly just switch out existing stuff for a holiday version - the wreath on the door, the felt banner in the living room, the candy dish, a set of matryoshka dolls.
the tree is the main event, but i like to wait until later in the month for that. it’s just how my parents always did it, and also i like to leave it up through january so i don’t want it to be half dead by christmas. stockings are hung already, and this year i also got two advent calendars - those are new. (one is wax [it’s like a scented candle without the wick], and one is just a bunch of cute little wooden characters with numbers from target.)
each year i also send out cards, and in addition to family and coworkers i always do a poll on my instagram for who would like one (no one has to send one in return) and this year is a record high - double what i usually send out, so that bit was definitely representative of folx wanting a little extra cheer and human connection this year.
this year also marks the first time in 37 years i’ll not be waking up at my parents’ on christmas morning so i guess i’ll cook a big spread of food for my partner and i or something to take my mind off of it.
Well…as an old folk (fart)…and with the “COVID-19 Infection Fatality Rate” for 70+ being 0.054% …(which is 27 out of 50,000)…we probably should cower/tremble in our home…
But…ALL RamaHanuKwanzMas decorations are up…and our 4 Children/Spouses and 4 Grand Children will be celebrating with us on the 25th…
@Hrairoo I hear ya, caring for family takes a lot of hard work and time. Nevermind about YOU going to school at the same time!! If no ones told you lately, YOU ROCK!! Merry Christmas!
@Lynnerizer thank you! My grandparents are good people. It has been hard watching them get older and not be able to do as much for themselves, but I’m happy to be here to give back even a fraction of what they’ve given me.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. We could all use it after this doozy of a year!
@Hrairoo@Lynnerizer Your parents and grandparents must be so proud of you. I’ve only met a few younger persons who are willing to take care of elderly/ill family members. Most just say they’d take them to a hospital or nursing care facility.
I love hearing about people like you.
Pretty much the same, but we are the only ones for a couple blocks who have lights out right now. Normally, most folks get them earlier so they don’t have to put them up in the snow. I know one neighbor always waits until the grandkids come so they can help, but it’s looking like the kids aren’t coming, so they may not do anything. It’s a bit funny, as these folks were decorating back during the beginning of summer when that stupid trend hit, and one neighbor even ran to catch me at the mail box to request we decorate so the whole block would be done.
@simplersimon I felt odd this year. I was the first one to start decorating. I had some lights up Thanksgiving. It took a few days for any neighbors to follow suit. I thought they would of been first since we had a cool front roll through.
I’ve never decorated before, but this year I’m thinking of making the house look like a hospital with Santa’s sleigh parked in front of the garage/ER entrance pulled by reindeers wearing masks and Santa laid out on the stretcher with a toe tag. Would that be considered more or less festive?
@gerrymic@kuoh I don’t think Wolf would approve. Unless you are wearing a mask putting everything up by yourself. Noone can be near you, remember. You shouldn’t even be in your house without a mask.
@gerrymic@kuoh If this isn’t the onset of a tyranny what is it?!?! Government is using this covid crisis to control us with fear. What’s next. Now that they know they can control us, what’s the next step?
Yes, I’m well aware many of you will degrade me for this thought, but at least I still have my own thoughts…how long until we aren’t even allowed those?
We haven’t put up a tree or lights for the last two years since we live out of state and go back home every year. Finally decided to be festive this year and get the lights and tree out.
I haven’t put anything up yet. We’re in the middle of a move. A very protracted move. In the midst of a pandemic. Usually I have stuff up early-mid November.
Moved in the past month or so, way behind on every aspect of everything. Might or might not try to decide whether it’s worth figuring out how to fasten lights to something outside, maybe this weekend.
well, I don’t put up a three with three cats in the house. (Shiny! Must murder it!) and the yard dudes cut the mistletoe out of the tree in the front yard so the au naturel decorations are not a thing this year. I miss friends holiday parties and white elephant parties this year. It’s always fun to think up a fun gift that everyone wants to steal I will make homemade candy and ship to out of town friends.
Less. I don’t really give a shit this year.
@cinoclav same
@cinoclav @tonylegrone same same
@cinoclav @melbell @tonylegrone exactly
@cinoclav @melbell that’s insame.

Two words: COVID-19!!
@hchavers I would have chosen “Christmas Lights”
Less. Knee surgery next week with an unknown recovery timeline. If I decorated this year, it might be April before I could take it all down.
I like lights and now it’s the socially acceptable time to use them.
@Wookee What’s wrong with the knee?
@Wookee best of luck with the surgery. wishing you a safe and relatively speedy recovery.
@zinimusprime messed up meniscus. It’s the second time they’ve tried to fix this.
@jerk_nugget thank you! The better outcome would be the longer recovery, which is a little odd to hope for.
@Wookee @zinimusprime Hopefully this one will be the last you go through. I had 3 meniscal tears repaired 5 years ago and recovered quickly and well. Hopefully you will this year.
@Wookee yuck, that’s not good. Hope it goes well. I’ve had the same problem. Best of luck. I’ll say a pray for you
I did nothing last year, so whatever I do will be more - and being at home all the time will help with that.
Decorating? Whatever.
Less. I’d like to put lights up on the roof, but we had some minor damage from a couple of the hurricanes this season and I expect the insurance check to arrive any day now. @dyounghbic WooHoo! It’s all about the effort and i’d say you did a pretty good job! Got any pics for us to look at, I love pictures!!

Less. Squirrels ate my strings of icicle lights last year.
More! More! More!
You guys are a bunch of Scrooges!

@jerk_nugget @Kidsandliz
/giphy halarious
@jerk_nugget they’s probably have ring doorbell camera as they’d get so much of it. LOL
@jerk_nugget @Lynnerizer Most of the rules I don’t care about as they are irrelevant to me but the no decorations ones are irritating.
@Kidsandliz Are they Jehovah’s Witnesses
@Kidsandliz lol, you’re probably right XD i’ll make sure to put on one of those big full body inflatable costumes first. they’ll never know it was me!
@fairchild521 I have no clue. @jerk_nugget good idea. Trouble is corporate is in another state.
@Kidsandliz dang, this is gonna take some planning. better get a crew together.
@jerk_nugget You in?
I haven’t even bothered to open up my Christmas tree yet. Usually I have that thing up halfway through November.
Since we are not having family over (Thanks, Covid) my better half is just doing minimal.
@fallfaceforward
Cheer up!! This year has been one heck of a duzy, it can ONLY get better from here! Right?
We put up more lights and decor and we did it a week before Thanksgiving so I think it’s safe to say we committed Thanksgiving treason

With school, work, friend stuff, and trying to help take care of my grandparents, it’s been hard to make time to decorate.

@kuoh MORE festive…I think even our Governor Cry-Wolf would approve it…(as long as the reindeer were practicing Antisocial Distancing)…

@AuntMean67 @kuoh WOW Aunt67…you are QUITE prescient!!!
Last night…Cry-Wolf mandated that there will be NO “MIXING OF HOUSEHOLDS” for the next 30 days!!!
