I prefer the dark, but there are limits. 96% gets really bitter. And Hershey stopped making an edible dark about 40 years ago; that block of wax they call Special Dark is just nasty.
I live in an area with few predators that would attack me rather than run, no venomous animals, and most terrain is safe if you walk slowly. Indoors, I just have to remember to shuffle my feet to keep from stomping Legos and d4s
I’m comfortable in my bedroom with it completely dark. Not scared of the dark there.
But alone outside at night, I get this creepy feeling up my back and can’t stand it. Same thing happens in my basement when I turn the lights off. Just makes me feel creeped out.
I didn’t have any trouble with the dark until watching a bunch of scary movies in one night as a teenager
Actually, inside not really. Outside I find it a bit spooky to be outside late in the middle of my yard lit up like daylight so everyone can see me…but Charlie appreciates the light
The only thing I’m afraid of in the dark is stepping on something that my daughter has left around. In late 2019, I had been vastly underestimating how much clutter she was willing to live in, as I had told her I was done cleaning up after her if she was just going to wreck the place again within hours.
Well, I had to sneak into her room in the dark to turn off a light and felt a shard of plastic get stuck in the sole of my foot. I yanked it out and tossed it in the general direction of the garbage can, but it kept swelling over the next few days. It turned out that shard of plastic was from a sewing needle case and that shard had pushed a full needle deep into my foot… Eye-end first
I prefer the dark. However, I once stepped on a scorpion in the dark. I don’t know that I wouldn’t have stepped on it even if the light was on. Probably the biggest takeaway is to wear protective gear on the feet while traversing in the dark, or in a lighted area for that matter. (I hate to wear shoes)
I answered “no”, as I have never been spooked outside in natural darkness nor in a house/building with no lighting.
However, I have to admit that I have been spelunking multiple times where the entire group turned off their head lamps and flashlights and true pitch blackness was pretty creepy. I think it was less about the darkness itself, and more about the prospect of how the hell I would get out if I didn’t have some sort of lighting.
In 1990, my family moved from suburban New Jersey to rural Indiana. I had trouble sleeping the first few weeks - it was too dark without a street light outside my window, and too quiet without sirens and trains in the distance.
I got over it, to the point that now I have trouble sleeping in town.
I don’t like it pitch dark where you can’t see anything, even in my own bedroom. I sleep with an eye mask on, but the room needs to have some lights on, even if it’s just the clock and the light on the humidifier (which I seem to now HAVE to sleep with in my old age or my sinuses freak out)
I find myself checking over my shoulder a lot more often in the dark, which has been a fuel for my flashlight obsession I’m sure.
For those of y’all who said you’re not afraid of the dark, I wonder if a long walk through a pitch black snowy forest, out to the hunting stand would change your story. I’m not saying screaming in fear, just unnerved and paranoid. New age flashlights are a game changer though…I can light up an acre now

Are there maskless, antivaxxers in the dark room?

@LaserEyes I only watch scary movies if I can put the Tv in “Guide” mode during the scary part making the scene tiny. My version of covering my eyes.
Submitted for the approval of The Midnight Society…
@zhicks1987 Fun fact, the magic dust they threw on the fire was actually non-dairy coffee creamer.
Don’t fear the dark. Be afraid of the light for you will see the monsters, and they will see YOU!
Not if I can pull the covers over my head

@yakkoTDI I’m a frayed knot.
I’m afraid of stepping on a lego in the dark, but I’m not afraid of the dark…
@cenots I am afraid of stepping on Lego bricks in the light.

Not the dark itself. But walking in the dark is concerning. I once broke 2 toes walking to the bathroom in the dark. It was rather unpleasant.
Darkness hides things, evil and deadly things. But the light exposes them.

Only during snake crawling weather.
I slept with the hallway light in till I was 8 or 9. Since then, though, I’ve preferred the dark. I like it when the days are shorter.
