April 1 IRK Reveal
67Either of the ones I received today could easily qualified as an April fool’s joke, but this one took the most imagination and planning. It all started with this typed note (encased in bubble wrap of course).
Ever type of ball imaginable-tennis, ping pong, cheese, golf, lacrosse, chocolate, racquet, marbles, and a can of NUTS. All individually wrapped in bubble wrap.

OK-the second IRK received today was short on substance but long on boxes and bubble wrap. Each item had its own individual box (yes even the bag) and inside each box was an item individually wrapped in bubble wrap.

Grew up with a father and aunt (his sister) who’d pun for hours and eventually we’d vote to shut them up at the dinner table, in the car (well if we hadn’t already joined in - my poor mom). And so of course we kids would do it. Often for the entire 45 minute walk to school. Then we’d try to figure out how we ended up where we ended (pun wise) - based on where we started. We are suspicious that it is a genetic defect punned on to us.
@Kidsandliz I ran several possible posts by my wife who said they were all inappropriate. I finally posted one telling her you don’t know the type of people whom I am dealing with-they are all as off kilter as I am.

I’ve had really good luck with irks recently though… After a couple of bad ones, I’ve had some great ones.

I didn’t get a Cuisinart item in my side deal irk either. Only some lucky folks in the side deal irk got one of those items. So far there appear to be more who didn’t than did. The balls are a lot better than one of my irks not all that long ago which was 5 very grossly dirty, used and broken ear buds and an irk bag.
At least my supply of bubble wrap has been replenished.
I hit the jackpot for “stuff some women might like”. I got:
-A poofy self-heating, when attached to a not-included power bank jacket (slightly too small for me). There’s a hole in one of the pockets. I wonder if I could use this as a heated blanket/heated bed for the cats.
-A “contour” makeup brush which looks like it might be great for dusting small things. I have many small things (mostly Lego minifigs) which need dusting.
-A Kate Spade eyeglass case with cleaning cloth…no eye or sunglasses. But the hinge on the case for my eye glasses died recently and it no longer stays closed. So this will actually be useful!
-A sports bra for someone of a smaller size and with smaller tracks of land than me.
-Six cards with samples of various shades of foundation/concealer make-up. I don’t wear make-up so I’m not sure what I’m going to do with these.
-A pair of tassel earrings. Since I don’t wear earrings, these may end up being converted into cat toys.
-A glorious purple Irk bag. This is a new color for me!
-A very nice box which I will leave out for the cats to enjoy after they wake up from their afternoon naps.
All in all, a nice box filled with regret and some items which might be useful if repurposed.

1 craft beer making kit that appears to be complete, sort of anyway. The jar had all its parts and there were a couple of bags of hops inside. I don’t drink beer. Too bad I don’t know how to get hold of 2 ex housemates from years ago who used large chemistry lab glass containers to make beer. Then while storing the bottles in their rooms the bottles started to blow up. LOL I’ll have to figure out who to gift this too.
l nesting glass food bowl set with lids. These I can use.
1 thick circle “double loop pull though” fleece scarf that will likely never be used by me while I live 2 hours or so from the Gulf of Mexico. Maybe a family member in the snow belt will want it.
1 purple irk bag that had a tragedy befall it prior to arriving to me. One side is filthy with a lot of the white ink scraped off. The half of the bag showing in the photo is the part that is in best condition (with only a few bits of dirt on the elephant, man and arrow). So sad!!!
Amazingly no broken glass considering no bubble wrap or Texas air in there. Thanks meh.

@DTominator They were beautiful carefree and naked cats when I took those pictures this morning. Alas, I just put collars with name tags on them. Now they are deeply offended that I invaded their personal space.
They are probably still beautiful, but they have crawled up into furniture, and can no longer be seen. They are afraid I will put more stuff on them.
@DTominator They have come out of hiding and are chasing laser pointer dots again. They are now beautiful cats with name tags. They are willing to hang out with me again, even though I did put collars on them.
@hamjudo My cat was smarter than my dog. We used to put all of our used Christmas sticky bows on the dog (don’t need a tree!). The cat would run away when we got near him. Will not tolerate a collar. I bought one of those hand printers from Meh and print his name on the ribbon…then try to put it on him…not. Maybe we’ll be successful with tying it to his tail!

@DTominator @hamjudo I put harnesses on two cats. One played dead and needed dragged by the leash. The other took off doing flips and tearing around trying to get rid of it until the trailing leash got caught and brought him up short mid flip. He immediately calmed right down. That cat would later quiver with excitement when I’d call them and be by the door with the leashes. He LOVED going outside. The other one liked it but not to the extent he did.

For example, Maryland extended their filing deadline until July 15th and the changes to my tax program didn’t come out until April 15th for the issue of unemployment not being taxed. But wait they still haven’t issued a correction for the paying the taxes electronically after the original due date so every Maryland return I tried to file has been rejected.

Even with the simplest returns, (one with three tax documents) had to pick it up and put it down a couple of times-filed Fed when the Fed patch for excluding 10,200 of UC and then had to wait for the MD patch where all UC was excluded. Most people understand who created the problem.
Happens every time they pass laws after-the-fact which affect previous years taxes, but this is the worse I have seen in my almost 50 years of doing this.

@zachhh Certainly this IRK and the discussions around it adds to my visibility which was pretty high to begin with given I was last month’s goat and my bubble wrap obsession. Not sure anyone else stuck their neck out like I did to warrant such a personalized IRK. Hence might be the only victim this go around, and if the person is embarrassed by such attention, Meh not want to say anything unless the individual posts first as I did.

I will add that the sheets were out of their package and one pillowcase was missing, but I’m good with that! We only use one standard pillowcase anyway, I use a king feather pillow so mine doesn’t match my husband’s.

This was my first IRK and my 11 yo. son was impressed. He didn’t think there was much to regret since I work in tech and almost everything I received would be useful. He also says I should ALWAYS try to get the IRK in the future! It’s fun!!

Red Copper Flipwich Duo Panini & Sandwich Maker - Who comes up with this shit? So you heat one side, put your sandwich in it, grill the fuck out of the hot side and then flip it. I actually wanted to try those magnetic eyelashes. I have an eyelash condition which makes them grow in wonky way and they grow into my eyes so they have to be pulled or Lasered off.

A wild IRK appeared!
The third of the IRKs I was expecting has arrived, containing another MicroUSB for my upcoming trip, an iPhone 7 battery case, a MacBook Pro Hardshell, some Cheesecake Bandages my 8 year old will love, and a Stretch Chair Cover described as “Ugly Crappy Yellow” when I suggested my eldest daughter might want it in her house. I also got the Orange Meh Bag. (I have more bags than I can use at this point, I should get them all together for a picture.)
More Regret in this one than I’ve been getting in IRKs lately, and I never seemed to snag one on the last two Meh-rathons.

OK, so my wife is the one that really made out on this box, but that just means that next time I score one of these she’ll say “cool!” instead of “another one, really?” I’ll take that! Just got my April Fool’s Mehber IRK the other week.
So all in all, an enjoyable surprise. I wouldn’t have spent the $5 + mehmbership on this given a choice, but it was amusing to receive.
Mine came, and I’m pleased actually! Not so meh after all.
@kdstrong14 1. a naugahyde (pleather?) tote bag with a name brand “Hayden Harnett.” Never heard of Mr. Harnett, but the price tag still attached says $128! Dunno about that, but its a nice looking bag and I’ll use it.
2. an out of box “thunderboom” power to go bluetooth speaker, without power cords or instructions, but I hope I can find a cord somewhere and figure it out. Takes a DC 5 volt charger cord, which was not with the speaker and it does not fit with any standard USB charger. On second thought, without the charging cord this speaker cannot be used. Oh well. Maybe the next IRK will have the cord. (hint hint).
3. 2 plastic mask inserts for keeping them god awful masks out of your lipstick (can use that).
4. A lipstick case shaped power bank – giving that one to son’s girlfriend.
5. a car charger with a 6 foot micro USB cable.

@kdstrong14 are you sure it’s not a micro usb cable? I got one of those speakers in an IRK a long while ago, am pretty sure it was just loose in the IRK and don’t recall having any issue with charging it. I gave it to my wife so I don’t currently know where it is to verify.

It’s not a bad little speaker for its size.
Mine had what I thought was a Foreman grill at first but it turned out to be a Bella Pie maker in a beat up box. Also included the purple bag, a hair iron, Pixel tracker and fancy hard plastic comb that did not survive bouncing around in the box with the other items.
Nothing I will use but my nieces will likely enjoy the pie maker and hair iron.
Mine is coming at a speed of 4.5 Mph since Saturday evening.
Looks like the shipment exception on my IRK has been resolved and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Can’t wait to receive some Regret.

I’m very sensitive to smells and I almost gagged when I opened the socks. These things are Argon oil infused and they smell terrible. These would’ve been nice socks but as it is I’ll have to put them in the washer and set the water temp to “Nuk’em Hot” and do that for several cycles before the smell is gone. Same goes for the Aroma Diffuser, never going to use because of the terrible smell. At least the phone charger is usable.
P.S. - Meh, I’ve noticed the things you’ve been putting in my recent IRKs seem to be intended for women. FYI, I am a dude that likes techie stuff and video games. Not smelly perfume stuff. Just for future reference.
From what I remember, I got the chair cover, wall charger, mac book pro cover, the tracker, and an orange irk bag. I like the bag and the charger is useful, but everything else really does live up to the name of instant regret. I’ll probably toss most of it except the bag and charger, which seems like a polluting waste. Not sure I’m going to buy an irk again if I can even do so, because if I’m not gonna be able to use most of it than I might as well leave them for someone who can.
@Archaeodealing I got 2 chair covers, a mac book pro cover and an orange IRK bag. Kept the bag, tossed the rest. Going on an IRK hiatus.
@Archaeodealing You don’t have Salvation Army or Goodwill etc. to give them to?

I received my IRK last week but I am surprise gifting this one to friends who have been kind enough to give a good chuckle over phone or Zoom the two IRKs I had scored before. I think our friendship is strong enough to weather the amount of regret but I apologize for really messing up the “instant” part. I also apologize for not being able to post a pic of the box that says “deluxe hammock stand” on the outside but I will find a way to do that soon and post pics of the contents once I see them in person this summer. Success! Box appears to be hammock size dimensions (119x26x16cm is about 47x10x6in) and the text would appear to confirm that. We’ll see!
