Apple Watch. I want the integration, and the SDK for developers is going to make this thing a powerhouse. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think it looks great too.
That said, if you don't have an iPhone, this is a pretty easy question to answer.
@TBoneZeOriginal And if you do have an iPhone, why not just strap it to your wrist and cut out the middleman, so to speak? And it would arguably look less dorky than the watch.
@TBoneZeOriginal The Pebble was always a geek-type product. People would always see it on my wrist and ask what is that?! And then they saw notifications and just immediately rolled their eyes. The argument for the watch will be one that's long debated.
Pebble- price point $50 to high, color does not add function, microphone does not actually do anything. Simplicity is nice. Smart straps are not simple. Your getting a prototype... But battery, simplicity, function and price are pretty tempting.
Apple- fair price, wifi and Bluetooth connectivity is sweet, you can do everything on this device, it's not a prototype, with great app support. For $100 more than Pebble Time Steel... Kinda tempting... Who wears their watch to bed? Not me?
Either way I think both are too expensive and will be junk in one year.
I think I am in for the Original Pebble when the price drops to $79
I have an Android Wear now, but I'm in on the Pebble sequel Kickstarter. Although all of my computers are OS X, none of my mobile devices are iOS, so although the Apple Watch has some nice stuff, it's not an option.
(I wish Apple would finally update the iPod Touch with the iPhone 6S stuff. That would make me spend money.)
Ha, look at these assholes. $349-400 for the Sport watch $549-1,099 for the Watch $10k-17k for the Watch Edition (I know, real gold...blah blah blah...fashion)
No, for real, Pebble is a good price. It all really depends on what you have and what you want. I like Android, so I would pick the Moto360 or LG G Watch R, but that Pebble Time is very tempting.
@The_BaronGruber called the $10k+ price point and predicted that people in the tech world were going to shit their pants. The people who spend $10k on a gold watch are different than you and me. We're in it for the tech. They're in it for the prestige. I completely forgot the Apple Watch event was today so I haven't seen the keynote yet. I have no idea if they have an obsolescence hedge built into the gold watch.
@SSteve I was pretty much expecting that price for the high-end watch. Apple is just trying to undercut some of the luxery market, aftermarket resellers like Brikk http://www.brikk.com/lux-watch.html who go as high as $72k for their models. This market has exhisted for years, rich people will drop tons of money on devices that will be obsolete in a year.
OK... So.. Who has the apple watch and can give me some advice... I'm back and forth between the Sport and one of the Loop bands on the regular watch... No edition for me.. and no cheap Edition my watch... Work is paying for part of it... so I can't complain (much, they are still taking taxes and 401K withholdings from it.)
I got the original Pebble. I am a person that sometimes likes to be away from his technology but wanted the convenience of a watch to see notifications. I failed miserably and went back to my Nike Fuelband since every text and call became an urgent matter instead of convenient. Anyone else have this dilemma?
A lot of co-workers have apple watches and they are very happy with them. I don't have any personal experience with them.
I know 2 people with pebbles. They like to tinker with their watch, which makes the pebble the appropriate choice for them. There are issues with it, but the free/customizable faces and other factors apparently outweigh the issues.
Personally, I have the Sony Smartwatch 3. I got a great price on it when I got a new cell phone. It's thinner than most, and doesn't look giant on my smaller male wrist. Now, with that said, there are some issues with the watch, which in the end, make it not worth wearing. The software for pushing information to the watch is buggy, and not all info makes it (IE I don't get all text messages onto watch). But, it connects to wireless, and still processes e-mails, has GPS, etc. So it does semi-function when not around your phone with is really nice.
When this phone plan expires in 2 years, I'll be making the change to iPhone and will probably get an apple watch along with it.
i wear a pebble 2 now and maybe will get an apple when gen 2 i watch comes out. this is just personal crap so don't read it if you have a life. (its friday and im a few beers deep now and rambling.. i'm pretending you are my friends and we are sitting in the back yard around the fire pit and wishing we had more mosquito spray (i bought a new fire pit on amazon, but have not really used it yet because its so hot and humid (here in Baltimore)) pebble works for me the way i use it. I work in an office at a desk. i don't follow sports (except i like the going to the moto gp every year in indianapolis, (attendance seemed way down this year so if they dont race in indy next year, we'll be flying to texas for the races! yeah-yuh! Is meh near the races? does meh go to the moto gp? can my vmp get me into the turn 9 club? (a $600 value (free food and drinks (really? free?, how is it free for $600. can you eat and drink that much in one afternoon?, it's more like get away from the dregs of society that can't pay their way in club) but i digress (although i was in there the year before last, and it was nice. air conditioned and all, and it was hot as sweaty balls outside.)))) but the folks i work with don't know about anything other than the ball sports. (basket, foot and base)(guess they love balls, loljk)) and the other dudes in the office all talk sports, so i listen to podcasts all day long (to keep my sanity) thru a Bluetooth headset. when i have to wait on customers, i have to get up and go to a counter or a window. most of the time, i don't have to talk to them. (just stamp their papers), but sometimes i actually have to talk to people, so i don't want to miss my podcast. (actually i have trouble comprehending someones questions when i have another conversation going on in my ear). so before i had a pebble, i had to either re-wind or go over to my desk to pause the podcast and then go back to the window to re-engage with the customer. now i can just pause, start, stop and skip whatever i am listening to right from my watch, without having to walk the half mile back to my desk. (20 feet). having the different watch faces is nice. being able to see the distance to the next hole while golfing is nice. seeing the weather is nice. reading xkcd on the watch is nice but i don't do it as often as i thought i would. pros for the new pebble would be the glass face (scratch resistant), the metal beazle (also showing less scratches than plastic, but still showing some), the smaller form factor, the battery life, the fact that you can call a watch face or watch app from the watch over bluetooth rather than having to go to the app on the phone to install one that is not already in memory in the watch. cons would be that the color watch face is not as easily viewed in all lighting conditions as the old black and white watch face, and that you can't start listining to music on your phone without starting the player first. (on the old pebble, if you went to the music interface and selected play, it would eventually start playing, sometime after as much as 2 minutes. the pebble time just says to start the app on your iphohe and won't let you press play). since i am listning / watching video podcasts all day long, i leave the phone plugged in to power at my desk all day long, and don't have it on my person. it's good to know when a text comes in that it's my wife and needs attention right away as opposed to a text from amazon telling me what is the deal of the day, or some such thing. oh, and i also use it as a watch! i always wear a watch. i love watches. i must have 30 watches. (just watches i like, not expensive watches. i am not rich. i like expensive watches, i just am not dumb enough to buy one i can't afford. ) another con is that i don't really wear any of my other watches now. i guess i could wear 2 watches like i did back in school. (i was just trying to be different then. now i realize that different is bad.). so maybe i have gotten out of hand with the parenthesis. after all this is not programming, or a spread sheet or a math problem. i'm not going to double check my work. i might have one more beer tonight. i just had to have a woodchuck oak ages apple cider because was in the front of the fridge. hope my wife dosen't notice! ok, that is enough i guess. so i guess i am hoping that next years (2016) apple watch is less expensinve or will allow me to justify spending the money for the features. (one thing that sucks is that i don't really have any friends or a wife that is into technoloty, so i can't realy enjoy all this new tech. i had an email account from high school. by the time all my family and friends got email, i was burned out on eamil. now i have friends that iphones and android phones, but how many apps do they have? 2 or three pages worth? My wife has 2 pages of apps on her iphone. this is true, i have just checked my iphone and i have 589 apps on my phone. i use like 5 apps on the regular. wtf. if i got my wife an iwatch, she probably would not even wear it. "honey, we can send each other our heartbeats!" "yeah, well can it empty the dish washer? cause i would really like you to empty the dish washer." don't get me wrong, i love my wife and i am super lucky she has not filed for divorce yet, but would it be so bad to tech up a little? here is my wife. "I don't want to watch a science fiction movie. i don't like it". so i start watching a show while she is reading a book or something. then she is like "what is going on in this movie? can you start it over? "
2 movies i am looking forward to seeing: mad max furry road, ex machina, that last aventers movie, i think i still need to see that last spider man move. the space movie with mat mcoghnahey, i should probabgly see that. i hear b irdman is pretty good, though not really scifi. maybe i should see that. then there is the movie with the rock in a helicopter. the one with alexandra dadario. maybe i can see that one too. mainly mad max and ex machine.
ok, i am having to hit back space too much now, so i'm going to wrap this ulp. thanks for comming by and have a safe rigde home. no, don't worry, i'll put the fire out with the hose after you guys are goine. if anyone has had too many, you are welcome to crash ing the guest room. sorry about the mosquitos.
bring back hank harlan!
Good evening ladies and geltlemen, I just flew in from modesto, and boy are those plane tickets expensive! ..... because i'm a chicken.... and... we don't really use cash that much..... cash.... ok....
@miko1 This made me smile way more than it should have. I'm old and I don't get that sauced anymore, but there was something about your verbal diarrhea that took me back to my youth. I hope the hangover isn't too debilitating and the wife still loves you enough to let you recover in peace. (But please do something nice for her so she knows you appreciate her forbearance.)
Apple Watch. I want the integration, and the SDK for developers is going to make this thing a powerhouse. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think it looks great too.
That said, if you don't have an iPhone, this is a pretty easy question to answer.
@TBoneZeOriginal The answer being "neither"?
@TBoneZeOriginal And if you do have an iPhone, why not just strap it to your wrist and cut out the middleman, so to speak? And it would arguably look less dorky than the watch.
@rockblossom Your mom would look less dorky without you, but she kept you anyway.
@TBoneZeOriginal Yes, but she never took me out in public. :-D
@TBoneZeOriginal The Pebble was always a geek-type product. People would always see it on my wrist and ask what is that?! And then they saw notifications and just immediately rolled their eyes. The argument for the watch will be one that's long debated.

Moto360, if the price ever goes down.
Apple watch if HomeKit actually works well.
Just noticed this and laughed out loud
Ha, look at these assholes.

I like purple.
@Barney More color options for Android Wear devices would be nice.
Some use a standard watch strap, so you could put a purple strap on one of those.
@The_Baron Gruber called the $10k+ price point and predicted that people in the tech world were going to shit their pants. The people who spend $10k on a gold watch are different than you and me. @SSteve You mean the $10k solid gold gizmo isn't targeted toward meh.com shoppers? ;)
@brhfl Probably not even meh.com owners. @snapster doesn't strike me as the type that would pay that kind of money for a watch.
Android wear is what I'm saving up for
It's like asking "iPad or Kindle?"
Both have a place.
Yes! Apple Watch! A watch that the battery only lasts for 18 hours at best! Why do I need a watch to tell me time?
Seriously, it's not worth it.
I love me Pebble, but me is cheap too!
Actually buying apple watch on April 24th...
I'll buy whichever one is sold by Meh.com first. For purely nostalgic reasons.
Apples are good for eating. Pebbles are nice to throw.
Buying a Pebble Prototype for a $10 discount seems risky.... much safer to wait for reviews and decide then.
OK...
So dumb. Why isn't it called iWatch?
@ACraigL Trademarks in some countries
Swatch http://www.wareable.com/smartwatches/swatch-fitness-tracker-touch-apple
So watch is ordered... Will probably arrive tomorrow around 8 PM :( My ups delivery driver is so late usually...
@sohmageek Watch is here... I wish I had gotten the Leather loop now... but strangely Best buy doesn't sell it... :>/
