Anyone still just use a "dumb phone"?
5You could win money by not using a smartphone for a year. People without one already would probably find it easier to live without.

I looked at that, but then I wouldn’t be able to keep up with all of the postings on the https://meh.com/forum
@Thumperchick
Same here. Not even going to try because of my meh addiction…
You have to submit to a lie detector test to get the money… I think I’ll start a class to fool the test for the entrants and charge a grand or so for it…
/8ball I use a Windows Phone. Does that count as dumb?
Reply hazy try again
@narfcake our daughter says it does. All the time.
And until she says it politely and respectfully she isn’t getting that iPhone SE we bought for her a month or so ago at the AT&T store for $89.
My little brother (age 27) refuses to get a smart phone - do you actually have to HAVE one to stop using, to qualify?
Oh…the article says you need to submit something on Twitter or Instagram, and I’m pretty sure he’s never even LOOKED at either, let alone used one.
That’s a contest I’d like to enter, I live on my tablet but I could live without it, especially if I still had my laptop and smart home devices to play with. The only thing I can’t get around is being able to take credit card payments for art sales, but $100k would more than make up for that. But somehow I don’t think they are shopping in my demographic for contestants.
@moondrake Yeah, I think this more directed at college-age adults. I went nearly 30 years without a smart-phone, I’m sure I could put in 1 more easily.
I still entered the contest. I guess we’ll see
/giphy not their demographic
Not since 2002. Wow.
I have both. If I’m going somewhere that I won’t need to use an app, I leave the smartphone on the charger and just carry an old flip phone in my pocket. Dumb phones are great for emergency calls, are cheap to operate, and mine fits the watch pocket of my jeans. I do have to recharge it for a few hours every 3 or 4 months and remember to renew my service every couple of years.
I saw the Vitaminwater thing. If they can get free news coverage for their stunt, it’s great cheap publicity for the company. For the participant, it will probably be a year of no privacy. Even if I could qualify, I would pass.
I ahem an the last person on the planet that does not have a smart phone, or a cell phone of ANY kind. I carried one for a year, and made 3 phone calls; 2 of them were to order pizza. I figured that cost around $500/ call so I must not really need this gadget.
Problem is, I don’t have twitter or instagram accounts either. Or facebook, or snapchat. I buy a paper newspaper every day. In fact of it wasn’t for Meh I probably would not need internet at all.
We Luddites, like cockroaches, will survive the day when the cell networks go down and everyone looks up and wonders what to do.
@Steve7654
In your situation I would purchase an old cell or smartphone.
(Prob a less that 10-year-old smartphone that uses modern chargers, so that, if needed, a spare charger for it can be purchased easily.)
This should be pretty cheap.
Then I would not activate the phone. I would throw it and the charger into the glove box.
So … no monthly or ongoing charges.
Then i could call 911 from the vehicle, if i needed to.
FWIW, you also gain the extra privacy benefits by not having a cell phone.
That’s worth something. So congrats.
@f00l @Steve7654
Does that actually work? I thought 911 from an inactive phone was just an old wives tale.
@lljk @Steve7654
It works. So I’m told by my carrier.
That’s one reason people are encouraged to donate old cell phones to battered-person shelters.
@f00l @lljk @Steve7654 It absolutely works. The phone is fully capable of making calls on its own and emergency numbers are built in. The SIM or account is completely unnecessary.
Of courses most places in the country 911 centers are not very good, and won’t have a prayer of figuring out where you are unless you can specifically tell them. Even then their maps may be bad.
No but i see people with androids and those are dumb
@kaleb15002
@kaleb15002 I always see crazy people screaming into apples. But they hold them wrong
What if I have a smart phone but am too dumb to use it?
@Jon651 If your smartphone was really smart, it would teach you how to use it. Alas, “smartphones” tend to be “high tech everything electronic” gadgets that are not very smart.
@rockblossom Don’t blame the student; blame the teacher!
My better half got tired of her phone crashing from her spyware games and went back to a dumb phone.
@cranky1950
how did we already know rhar you are “the worse half”?
@f00l Because I told you so silly womans.
@cranky1950
Yeah but we still already would know if nobody told us.
@f00l Ha! yer deluding yourself not that you can get ludes anymore anyway.
I entered the contest. Give me some love meh forums. I’m on Instagram same username. I doubt anyone will notice but I would say my addiction is real. From trading stocks, to Clash of Clans 24/7, to Instagram, to Snapchat.
I qualify for this. Plus … I’d have 100k to blow at meh.
