Anyone order from Geek? I'm pissed!
5Hey all! My son got me to check out the shopping app Geek, where you get all this cheap stuff from China or wherever. They really do have stuff cheap, cheap, cheap, but the quality is usually about the same as what you pay for it. I've gotten a few cool items, and it can get quite addicting, with everything being so cheap.
Thus far, I had loved my experience. Yes, shipping takes a long time, but it was kinda cool coming home to see what new Chinese gadget would be in my mailbox this time... and if I could figure out how to get them to work, as most of them didn't have instructions!
So, I ordered a cheap tens unit. I have a few, but my younger brother was wanting one, so I thought I'd be a cool big sister and order him one. It finally comes in, I take it out to check it out before giving it to my brother, seeing if I could figure it out so I could show him how to work it (came with instructions, but I don't read Chinese). I put the batteries in, and the damn thing wouldn't come on. I tried some real (American) batteries, and no change. What a rip-off! Ok, so I wasn't really upset yet. I figured I'd contact customer support and they would issue a refund or send me a new one, no big deal. Well, that's not the way it went down.
After a day or so, my item status changed to 'refund processing', so I was satisfied. I got a notification of a message from Geek, so I checked it next time I logged in, and it was a message from customer support. They stated that because it had been longer than 30 days since I ordered the item, it was outside of the window for them to be of any assistance for a refund or replacement. I thought, 'you've got to be kidding me'!" I mean, it took over 30 days for me to get the item. I wrote them back explaining that, thinking surely they would have the sense to realize that! That gives sellers an open door to send broken crap, and just make sure it takes longer than 30 days to arrive! Nope, shit out of luck. I couldn't believe it when I got the second message, basically a copy of the first one, obviously a form letter type reply! I know I should have known better, the unit was dirt cheap, and I should have expected it to happen sooner or later, but they use this slogan, 'We have your back', saying that you're covered when you order anything from them, and it's more a matter of principle than anything!
I've ordered other items from them that took a long time to arrive. They send out messages saying that it may take a while, and ask if you got the item(s) yet. They give you the option to keep waiting, or have them issue a refund right then. I have chosen to wait on most of the items, and some times they have actually sent another one. The one time I decided I had waited long enough, they issued a refund, but told me if the item arrived, which it eventually did, to go ahead and keep it. One would think with customer support like this, they would be so much better about defective items!
Maybe they screw those of us who get the defective products because they have to make up for all the products they send out and have to issue refunds for because they don't arrive on time??? Anyway, it was just really surprising to me when a customer service agent actually says they won't do anything about my receiving a defective item because it took to long for me to get it! Am I wrong on this??? Grr... this just really rubbed me the wrong way!

and thats why i like ebay. after 3-5 business days you can ask ebay to intervene in any disagreement between you and the seller and it almost always ends in a instant refund.
If you paid with a credit card, see if you can file a chargeback.
Haven't ordered from Geek, but its...relative, or whatever... Wish. It was certainly addictive... had to uninstall the app. I got some cool necklaces, but yeah everything is pretty low quality and takes at least 6 weeks to get to you. The long shipping time makes it more fun though, because I totally forgot what I ordered by the time I got it.
I felt like I was doing something morally wrong though, because it seems very likely to me that these were made by children in a sweatshop. Not that that is definitively bad if it helps them to eat and survive... I just don't know enough about it to be comfortable with it.
@katylava Don't feel bad - it's not like you issued a customer service complaint and got the sweatshop kid (and his three brothers) summarily executed like OP here.
@katylava Not that it really makes it better, but almost everything we buy has a sweatshop involved somewhere.
Maybe consider trying Alibaba Express? It's the friendlier version of Alibaba, the Chinese site that sells everything.
Sorry to hear it's shitty site, and thanks for the heads up for everyone else.
@dashcloud I shop on aliexpress a lot and have always been happy. But I’ve never ordered electronics on there.
Avoid a middleman that just relists other sellers' items.
All of the cheap stuff can be found on either AliExpress or eBay, which are the biggest and most reliable online marketplaces for several reasons. They have solid refund processes and seller reputation systems. (Note for AliExpress: you may have to manually extend the refund period if the item arrives late).
Review them... with a red pen:
I must say that at first for a few months Geek was alright what stuff didn’t come in at all,they refunded my items,but then on October 6,2017 just 4 days ago I got blocked from buying products…I decided to try and see if I’m still blocked,so I picked out a dog toy for $1.85 and they didn’t process or ship my item after taking money off my debit card they even asked me to show proof that I bought from them on 9/10/2016 like what does that got to do with refunding my $1.85 for the dog toy?? So Nope NEVER again will I ever shop at GEEK they won’t give me my refund and won’t process or ship the item after I bought the dog toy…I can’t even delete my account on Geek like they say you can.they robbed of my money,but I’m just glad it wasn’t more I’ll just live without the $1.85 which I could’ve used it for my diabetic medication,but hey Karma will come for GEEK!
@THELMA75 Why dont you file a complaint with the debit card issuer?
@THELMA75 i’m curious as to why you got banned from buying products? maybe i missed something in the older comments but that doesn’t seem like a very good business model, crappy customer service company or not.
@annwat I imagine that if they are being shady, they don’t want more complaints to the CC processor, so, kill off the proactive consumers?
@THELMA75 Really? $1.85 for diabetic medications? Stop playing the violin I could have used $1.85 to buy a crack pipe. Makes no difference to anyone here. You shouldnt troll peoples emotions its fucked up.
@GizmoX
Where do you buy your crack pipes?
Also, I’m going to need some meth.
@GizmoX @therealjrn
Rural areas with remote trailers are the place to go for that.
Or so I hear. No personal experience.
@f00l @GizmoX
How do you know so much? I thought I needed to go to an inner city to buy my crack. Does this mean I can buy my crack and meth and still maintain social distancing guidelines? Sweet!
@therealjrn any gas station that sells those ‘rose in a glass’ things next to the register.
@GizmoX @therealjrn
Used to own acreage.
Was warned by common sense locals about not going near certain trailers. Everyone local seemed to “know”, but the sheriff’s dept couldn’t catch them in the act.
Or maybe the the rep was false and it was all just local myth. Dunno.
@f00l @GizmoX
Okay. If we accept this premise, why are the country bumpkins called “common sense” and the city rats are called “street smart”?
Really, I just want to get my crack pipes and meth. Why are you making it so hard?
@GizmoX @therealjrn
I’m making it hard? How so?
This is not my area of expertise. I’d never had a “dealer”.
Re language: perhaps the nature of survival skills vary by local rural or urban environments. Or something else. Ask a linguistic sociologist or similar. Dunno.
Re getting your fix? Can’t help you.
I don’t know how to get one here, let alone n of the Red River.
Methinks you are an extreme newbie at addiction.
Long-standing practitioners of addiction have connections w dealers, and dealers are prob still (very quietly) open for biz.
Can’t help you much, bro.
/giphy crack pipe
@GizmoX
See @f00l? Here is the place to continue your denial of drug dealer knowledge.
Following me around and referencing drugs, meth & crack in other threads just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense see?
Just a suggestion, sorry if I offended you, my apologies.
I will in the morning thanks therealjrn
I tried being nice by giving GEEK the benefit of the doubt and wait to see if they would give me a refund on their own,but that ain’t working so yeah I am going to give my card issuer a call
Some of my eBay purchases from abroad took longer than 30 days to arrive, because customs was sitting in them in NYC or LA. (I had tracking).
In the case of something expensive, I notified the seller that since I had only 30 days to file a dispute, I was going to file one and then wait. I told the seller I was doing do only as a precaution and wanted no action at present.
I told the seller that if the item arrived within the time limit for following through on the dispute and it was as represented in the listing, I would cancel the dispute.
If the item did not arrivr before I had to finalize the dispute, or they was some other problem, I told the seller I would contact the them again.
I asked the seller to take no action in the meantime; unless to tell me anything additional about shipping/tracking info.
Each time, the item arrived in good condition in another few days. I cancelled the dispute, notified the seller that all was resolved happily, and left positive feedback.
Items purchased from China using Ebay usually arrive in a few weeks, so I haven’t had to worry about disputes in those cases.
So far so good for me, purchasing items shipped from China off eBay.
AliExpress has also been good for me, the one time I used them.
I won’t purchase items from China if the seller is brand new or has very little feedback.
@f00l I don’t purchase items from anywhere if the seller is brand-new or has very little feedback.
Banggood, GearBest, Aliexpress. All 3 really do have your back.
Aliexpress is similar to Amazon Marketplace. Ali is a venue, and doesn’t sell anything, but they process your payment, and guarantee your purchase. If an item takes longer to arrive, you can create an extension in the order details, essentially extending your buyer protection guarantee.
Both Banggood and GearBest operate as a less obvious version of this same business model. They sub out various suppliers, but at the end of the day, you are purchasing directly from BG or GB.
I have ordered extensively from all 3, with order values ranging from a dollar or two up to a few hundred dollars. In one case, a $500 purchase. I have always received swift satisfaction from all 3 in the event of a problem.
Both BG and GB have US based warehouses, so often the shipment actually arrives in a few days rather than a few weeks.
Some Aliexpress sellers also have US warehouses, like TomTop.
@ruouttaurmind
Ok.
@f00l Just good?
Ya, I’ve had that one on ice for 3 weeks now. Probably should have left it on ice. LOL
@ruouttaurmind
Don’t wanna appear too publicly pleased about stuff, ya know?
I bought from Wish. They got me for $300. My credit card company is helping me get it back. Wish is the biggest scam.
@JoeRight what were you purchasing that was so expensive on wish? Electronics?
They always refunded me when I had problems. I quit buying from wish because I kept having a lot of issues and I could find the same stuff on eBay anyway.
It could be worse…

@Durago So what you’re saying is that I should leave a one star review for shirt.woot because they sent “cat, shirts” instead of catshirts?
/image catshirtswoot
@narfcake You keep the shirts. Send me the cat. Then you can give them 5 stars. My older models of cat are all pretty sick and breaking the bank - might yet have to do a youcaring to keep them in meds and vets visits even with my temp job. My younger model was inadvertently crossed with a goat and a vulture although plays well with others. That is the problem though. The play button is broken on my three older models and goat cat frequently tells me about it. Loudly at times. She is not convinced that button is broken on the existing models and has to test daily that it still doesn’t work. The hiss and growl buttons haven’t failed yet on the older models. I need a cat model with a working play button.
@Kidsandliz
How’s this cat?
@mflassy Is it litter box trained? It needs to be. Does it slobber? Do. Not. Want.
DogCat. That. Slobbers.@Kidsandliz My neighbor might miss him. He just likes making sure my catshirts come with free cat hair. And he likes getting high on my mint plants.
Also:
@Kidsandliz
It’s not my fault that you’re picky.
I ordered from Geek but im confused now. I ordered a Hoodie (I wear L but bought it XL because the comments said to buy a size bigger) but when it arrive the tag said XL but it didnt fit. It was like a Medium so i contacted Customer Support and they said they have refunded the money but never asked for me to return the item. Im confused now…
@manu425 I’ll not sure if this 3 year old thread will help much, but, if they refunded you, what’s the issue?
Asian sizing is usually 1-4 times smaller than US sizing. Keep that in mind next time you order anything.
Well you said you ordered a few so why couldnt you figure out how to work the last one? You obviously used the site many times and from what you tell me its so “cheap cheap cheap” it was “addicting”. Getting such a good cheap cheap cheap deal and an experience worthy enough of an addiction and also admittadly knowing your buying junk from china wouldnt it be fair to say you got your moneys worth? Your gonna get angry over an item that cost a couple dollars when you have happily saved hundreds of dollars? You act as if he sent you a broken item on purpose… Who knows if he did but I doubt it. More than likely since buying cheap chinnese products just maybe you got a deffective one. What do you expect you cant have everything your way! Stop crying suck it up and skip your coffee tommorow. Then you will have your $2 back and you can put it towards a $20 one at walmart.
@GizmoX Hi. That’s a cool nick. Who are you talking to?
You aren’t going to spam us with some bullshit site are you?
@GizmoX @therealjrn Just don’t feed him after midnight.
@GizmoX @sammydog01
He already sounds annoyed enough.
The coolest cat I ever had was called Gizmo.
@GizmoX you realize this thread is 4 years old now?
@therealjrn whoever it is they surely don’t work for wish… no way… they are just normal people browsing the deep threads, yup yup… for sures.
While avoiding Wish (and I guess Geek never heard them use that one yet but) I would also like to add that if the company in question has “inthebox” somewhere in the domain name name… it is also likely best to AVOID.
