I was wondering the same thing about that “honey” extension. I’ve started to see ads for it everywhere, which makes me more skeptical.
@dave I’ve used honey. It’s ok. No better than a google search for coupon codes in my experience, sometimes worse. If you weren’t going to look for a coupon code anyway it’s better than nothing, but if you were I wouldn’t bother.
@Pantheist
Any it tracks everything you do. Just like google, except that I have some idea who google is, and google gives out decent doodles and April Fool’s stuff and email and spreadsheets and nutty experiments.
Skipping these extensions.
I haven’t heard of Piggy, but I’ve been using Honey for a few weeks and it seems like a decent alternative to manually searching for and trying coupon codes (which I still do out of habit). So far the extension hasn’t missed any codes that turn up from a manual search. It also has a modest cash back referral program.
I should add that Honey definitely does record your browsing on shopping sites and I still haven’t verified that it’s not active on pages it shouldn’t be. You should also be wary of giving any extension visibility to the payment details you enter.
