@RiotDemon I think we may have touched on this before, but boiled peanuts are indeed a thing in the south, particular in the Carolinas and Alabama/ Georgia/Florida panhandle areas. The interstate is lined with signs imploring travelers to stop for boiled peanuts.
I had been warned they were horrible, but I thought “how bad can they be, peanuts are delicious”. I could not finish one. I was thinking along the lines of hot roasted peanuts, but the ones I had were cold. They were mushy monstrosities that were similar in consistency to boiled okra.
@DrWorm I actually eat boiled peanuts at least once a year and I totally forgot about them. I thought it was weird to describe a nut as crunchy, because they are all crunchy.
@DrWorm@RiotDemon Did you get them in a can? or from the crockpots in a convenience store? Those are bad.
The roadside stands (Hardy Farms in my area) where they dip them fresh from the boiling pot is the best way to get boiled peanuts.
I remember years ago in Norfolk, VA a local rock radio station running ads for Dixon Nuts and Cheese. “You can enjoy Dixon Nuts while cutting the cheese!” The ads were hilarious.
