Closely related to your opinion: All USB cables should be made to the standard of high-speed, quick-charge USB-C cables. The fact that there are one-way and data-only cables at all is horrible, and that most people don’t know this and end up with something that doesn’t work correctly just hurts the folks in customer service.
@ExtraMedium 1) Nothing hurts the folks in customer service. See memes deriding customer ignorance. Managing multiple cables is not that difficult. Finding and buying the specific one you need can be.
2) While there should have been a single universal standard defined at the onset of USB usage, the fact remains that there wasn’t and, as a result I need to have cables with multiple different connecting ends just to keep all my e-gadgets charged and ready. While I do love the ease of using Micro-C ends, they can be a PITA- my car came with a wireless charger, a USB-A port, and a Micro-C port in the console, and neither my, nor SWMBO’s Samsung Android cells are wireless-ready or have Micro-C charging data ports- so other than using a USB-A with a splitter, we can only have one cell charging at a time while we drive. Thank goodness for Meh’s old habit of selling power banks…
3) Charge-only cables are inherently faster, and are the only safe way to charge using public power sources- data theft is a real concern using data and charge/power cables in that venue.
Except for Monday which was never good anyway
Tuesday I get a little sideways
Wednesday I feel better just for spite
Thurdsay and Friday take too long
Before I know it Saturday’s gone
But it’s Sunday now and you can bet that I’m alright.
It’s Sunday now and everything’s alright.
@carl669 I hate Tuesdays because my it’s my boss’ day off, and that leaves me holding the bag as the only other responsible adult [hehehehehe- little do they realize] in the building.
This is despite my being the newest staff member by upwards of 12-years difference.
The other PA has been there for 15+ years, but has never been accused of being reliable.
@lisaviolet That is my opinion too. Unfortunately, our cats do not seem to share that opinion.
I guess at least they have the courtesy to not go there while we are watching.
@lisaviolet@macromeh cats are smart. One of mine checks to see if I am looking before he does something he knows he is not supposed to do. If I stare at him he backs off. If I don’t appear to be looking he goes ahead. If I then look up and catch his eye he jumps down. He is like a stubborn toddler.
@Kidsandliz@lisaviolet@macromeh This is why I use the training tapes. No, they are not VHS. They are strips of 2 in packing tape laid on the edge of the counter with the Sticky Side Up. They jump up, they lose traction because their paws stick to the tape but the shiny side slides, and they become embarrassed. They can’t see the tape until it’s too late, so they get used to the idea that jumping up on the counter is not cool. Every once in awhile, I have to retrain them.
@blaineg@Kidsandliz@lisaviolet@macromeh i’d hate to be the one having to change that diaper! (Unless the toddler has super potent enzymes for onion sulfites.)
@Kidsandliz@lisaviolet@macromeh@phendrick If the kid is that stubborn about eating an “apple”, they must be having a lot of fun with every other aspect of raising him!
Nope- we save them and eventually as the older ones break or connect less securely, they are replaced from the stockpile.
Plus if you forget or leave one somewhere, it’s no big dealio- there’s a spare.
@blaineg@werehatrack See- Charity!
As if we don’t get enough from buying gadgets, my nephew is a bar manager, and regularly confiscates the ones his employees use to charge their cells by plugging into the bar’s computer systems- a huge No-No because [another reason for charge-only cables] they have had several instances of malware getting uploaded, etc., despite their security software, and those were costly to repair.
@blaineg I sorta agree, but I prefer Standard Time and think year-round DST would be bad because when they did it in 1974, it seriously sucked. It is out-of-sync with the sun and puts school kids out waiting for a bus in pitch dark and cold. A half-solution would put us out-of-sync timewise with everyone else on the planet.
@blaineg@rockblossom The strange-offset time zones are in places where the people don’t have to deal with the rest of the world’s tech much. Prior to the adoption of standardized time zones in the US, the patchwork quilt of a time map drove railroads nuts.

It’s not helpful that the USB committee themselves keep confusion going. USB 3.0 = USB 3.1 gen1 = USB 3.2 gen1.

I have several.
tuesdays are dumb and should be stricken from the calendar
@carl669 There seems to be a lack of fucks given in this post.
@carl669 I’d rather have two Tuesdays and no Monday.
@narfcake @werehatrack fuck tuesdays
@carl669 @werehatrack Tuesdays had pretty much nothin’ going for them until the Tacos were added. Brilliant!
@pmarin @werehatrack tacos can be had any day of the week. alliteration should not be enough to save a useless day.
@carl669 Apparently there’s a club

@carl669 @pmarin @werehatrack @ybmuG
And then…
Except for Monday which was never good anyway
Tuesday I get a little sideways
Wednesday I feel better just for spite

@carl669 @Kidsandliz @pmarin @werehatrack @ybmuG I DO love Lorrie Morgan!!
@carl669 @narfcake @werehatrack I thought Tuesdays were gone…

If you remove the “pi” from opinion you are left with an onion. So I always think any opinion of mine is worth about 3.14 onions.
@rockblossom Three onions is almost enough for a small batch of dopiaza curry.
@werehatrack How about 3.14 onions?
@rockblossomEh Eh, maybe.
@rockblossom @werehatrack
You’d need to make onion pie.
@Kidsandliz That would be an onion pi.
@Kidsandliz @rockblossom @werehatrack Yummy
My opinion is cats shouldn’t be allowed on the counters (as I wipe muddy pawprints off of the white tiles).
@lisaviolet I have found that cat training tapes are fairly effective in convincing them to stay off the counters for a while.
@lisaviolet @werehatrack I made future avalanches on countertops. Jump up and all sorts of things fall (that won’t hurt them or the stuff falling).
@lisaviolet That is my opinion too. Unfortunately, our cats do not seem to share that opinion.
I guess at least they have the courtesy to not go there while we are watching.

Top this:
@blaineg @Kidsandliz @macromeh If it would quit raining so much it wouldn’t be a problem. No mud? No muddy pawprints.
Honestly, about the tape on the counters? I think it might confuse the hell out of my husband. lol
@blaineg @Kidsandliz @lisaviolet @macromeh i’d hate to be the one having to change that diaper! (Unless the toddler has super potent enzymes for onion sulfites.)

Plus if you forget or leave one somewhere, it’s no big dealio- there’s a spare.
@PhysAssist When I hit ten pounds of them in the spare cables box, I chucked about 60 of them in the E-recycling pile.
@PhysAssist @werehatrack I take them to work and add them to the various cables boxes.
@blaineg @werehatrack See- Charity!

@PhysAssist @werehatrack That’s completely understandable. Here’s a couple of USB security suggestions:

I may or may not be serious.
@blaineg @werehatrack I really like the first one, and use it all the time, but not sure this is the application for it.
Thanks for the link as well.
I guess an alternative would be to donate them to Goodwill [but they might just circular-file them] or other charity.
The start of a rebellion?

@rockblossom Maybe not everyone, I think there’s a few 30 minute times zones already, and a couple that are even stranger than that.
@blaineg Yeah, but as someone who lived through the 1974 winter on DST, I don’t want to do it again. I would seriously prefer the current clock changes to that because I can at least move to Arizona and avoid it.
