Manage to get one? I might have got one from gamestop but knowing them it’s a pretty big maybe until it ships. Failed at target and bestbuy, was too late by the time I saw walmart had some. Amazon’s site handled it the worst.
@metaphore I almost ordered one at GameStop this AM around… 1… I tried Best Buy first… They weren’t in stock… then sold out… Didn’t get one from Amazon either. So I ended up just ordering a raspberry Pi instead. I’ll just make a RetroPie.
@sohmageek RetroPie is the jam! I built one and the family has been playing the shit out of Super Mario.
It’ll be better if I can get a PS3 controller to sync so we can play newer games.
The funniest thing about the NES mini is that the first thing people will do when they actually start playing is complain about how hard the games are, how ugly the graphics are, or how boring the games are, and then they’ll go back to their phones or new consoles. People are paying scalpers tons of bucks for what will essentially be another video tchotchke in their closet, a new companion for their rock band instruments.
Never heard of it until just now, but what’s the big deal? You can play NES games with an emulator on pretty much any computer, usb controllers and HDMI cords are cheap.
edit: I guess southpark was dead-on with 'member berries though
@Pantheist It’s mostly a novelty item. I mostly want one because it’s little and cute, even though most of the games on it that I would care to play I already own a cartridge for. I assume some of the interest is from people that haven’t played these games in 20+ years, since they were kids, that aren’t into games enough to want to mess with emulators but see $2/game as an ok price for the nostalgia.
I don’t even get this thing. If you don’t have to blow the cartridge, take it out and push it up and down 20 times. Stand it on its side, take it apart and clean the contacts, then blow it again then repeat all of the above… What is the point? Where is the nostalgia? That’s half the experience.
Now that I’ve typed that it seems like there should be sex joke/innuendo in there somewhere. Not intentional. Would have been too young to get that when I became the Nintendo repair man
@astroglide Bonks is THE. BEST. So funny story. My 16 year old daughter suddenly wanted to play Bonks because of some “youtuber” she watches who reviews old games. I set up the turbo graphics emulator for her. Mid game and full frustration I grabbed the controller from her and plowed through levels. Also entered a few secret areas that NO ONE would know unless you played this game a ton (think waterfall passages). For a brief 20 minutes I was the coolest cat on the planet to my kid thus making Bonks an even greater game than what it already was
It’s just a little nostalgia and us 30 somethings are the drivers of what’s cool in electronics these days. Unfortunately for any other generation it just doesn’t translate. If you’re really tech savvy, chances are you have some sort of device that emulates all the old systems better than the original. I’d pick one up to collect dust with all the other game systems I don’t have time to play. I think at this point I’m just massing a collection to sell for when I retire in 30 years. A very cool collection no one wants… oh well
And you 30 year olds shouldn’t take all the credit.
My age demographic may be slightly behind yours, but we still piggybacked onto what your group defined/defines as cool with regards to electronics.
WHAT A BUNCH OF GARBAGE TRASH! would not let me add to cart, must of sold out in under a min…
Worlds worst possible ability to get this item yesterday with Amazon limited time to get “1” of this item. Their page could not load, over and over and over and over, such garbage. Tying to get limit, “one.” 11/11/16. Amazon, Your system suck if you want to try this limit offer on a “GLOBAL” effort.
Not at all surprised I couldn’t buy one at 5pm eastern. Anyone that has ever dealt with Ticketmaster knows exactly what happened. Doesn’t matter how my computers or devices you have pulled open because bots will get them first.
Blame @PlacidPenguin.
(I picked up an Atari Flashback for $7 last night at Goodwill, so I’m good on my retro game console fix …)
@narfcake My daughter killed her laptop screen and I bought a monitor for $5 at Goodwill- now it’s a desktop. Did I do good, sensei?
@sammydog01 $10 is my target price when it comes to monitors, so absolutely!
@narfcake Orange tag day, yippee!
@narfcake Just in case you weren’t aware, you can rig up a cartridge slot and make a full-fledged 2600 out of the Flashback.

Gamestop was acting funky as well.
Is this the same one?

Err, never mind. It says out of stock when you try to add it to the cart.
@RiotDemon Check the “2 year protection plan” box and then add to cart to watch it have an existential crisis.
@ELUNO the page is completely gone now.
Tell Bezos to payoff the Russians.
I want a SNES classic mini please.

@koifish I remember how hard. I actually want the clearer redefined hdmi 8 but not fuzzy graphics. Mega man had white eye parts in the sprite!

@Pantheist I asked my teen the same thing. He said “collectors”. I still don’t get it.
@sammydog01 yeah, it’s not the same as the original so I don’t get that argument either

@metaphore Fair enough

@unksol I hope it still erases your save on Zelda if you don’t hold down reset when you turn it off
@Pantheist huh??? What’s a save??
@unksol
http://www.naolito.com/collections/nintendo/products/cartridge-of-time
@unksol I’d slide my cartridge into your 72-pin connector any day as long as you blow on it first!
Wait, is that why my Zelda won’t save? I thought the battery in the cartridge was dead.
@ceruleanseas Might be. Might also be an issue with the cartridge, but it’s worth a try.
How about turbo graphics 16 mini with bonks revenge

@triplebud oh Jesus I remember that I had some other games but it’s been so long I can’t remember

We could always change that…

These customer reviews sound familiar.
I wouldn’t have even had a shot at this. 5 PM I was already disconnected from technology for 26 hours.
For some reason, any sale I want for certain stuff is Friday evening or Saturday, so I’ll never have a shot at them.
@PlacidPenguin
Strict, huh?
@f00l
Eh.
One way to look at it.
@PlacidPenguin
Oops.
sorry if that came out badly. Wasn’t intended as a dis at all. Intended as just casual converse.
Re those practices: I admire the discipline. And the intentions and purposes.
@f00l
I know you weren’t.
I was looking at it more now as a thing that keeps me from spending money on stuff I don’t need.
That’s one reason why I don’t regret never getting a BOC.
