@2many2no@Kerig3 The problem with that is you still have to install apps on the main memory. And all the memory you want, doesn’t mean you can still install a lot of apps.
Moving apps to storage doesn’t move the entire app usually. And even if it does, not every app does that.
hope this makes sense it’s a little early in the morning for me yet.
@radi0j0hn Yes, just mentioning how I feel about they devices. Also, to be fair to the IPad…I bought my mini retina “refurbished” in 2013 and am comparing it to a 2017 Fire HD10. So, the fact that my five year old device still beats the newer one for most tasks is significant.
I am thinking about upgrading my IPad actually. I was hoping they would offer larger memory options on the base model this year but they skipped updating them. I have 128 gb and am always low on memory. Not sure if my needs warrant IPad Pro prices, plus have not been happy with many of Apples changes to the OS and App Store in recent years.
Highly unlikely that one could purchase an iPad mini 2 refurbished in 2013 since it was only released in November 2013. Since you did mention that you got the HD10 in 2017 for $60 (the 2017 HD10 was only released in October 2017 and only dropped to $99 on Black Friday week.) Are you sure you have a 2017 HD10 and not the 2015? The 2015 HD10 was a seriously underpowered and under resolutioned tablet. I was not impressed by its performance even at its price.
Nonetheless comparing a $499 (for 32GB) 2013 iPad Mini 2 with a $150 2017 HD 10 is a bit unfair. Amazon only targets “good enough”.
I’m pretty satisfied with my 2017 HD10, for the light browsing and prime video consumption I do on it. But for any serious browsing with lots of typing involved or work I use a laptop with a keyboard.
@bbf I had to do a gmail search to check my memory and you are correct. I bought the IPad mini2 128gb direct from Apple Oct 2014 for $399. The HD10 was the new one but was $80 from Target after 15% cyber Monday and 5% red card discounts and the $100 Black Friday price. Paid $60 for the hd8’s I bought my nieces the year before.
Bought a refurbished version of this from Woot last year. Love it, love it, love it. Contrary to what the description says, this has TWO speakers which makes this tablet sound pretty damn good. Meh picked an excellent tablet to sell today.
I see nothing wrong with the screen resolution. In fact, I brought this with me on a trip to a friend’s wedding and watched videos on the flights the entire time. Unlike past tablets I’ve owned, I was able to download some Netflix shows so I can watch it in airplane mode (i.e. offline). One passenger next to me was going through the in flight movie guide on her phone trying to figure out how to use the interface; I was comfortably watching Stranger Things. Plus I barely had to charge it (partial credit goes to the magnetic case that puts the tablet in standby when closed).
The extra .5 RAM compared to my other 1 GB Ram devices makes loading apps so much faster. I bought a 10 inch Kindle this week so I’m excited to try it out and put Google Play on there (mostly so I can play Plants vs. Zombies 2 on it).
If you really want a crappy Kindle Fire tablet, get the 7. Not only is it slow, but it sounds like crap. Oh sure it’s easy to blame the one speaker, but consider this: If you turn the volume up to it’s maximum it still doesn’t sound loud enough.
I have two 8’s and a 10. Easy to add google play. Work well. It can be overwhelmed with too many apps. Special offers costs $15 to remove. Meh mistake not disclosing if it has it, missed a meh selling point if not.
@kristoffer Click on the top menu bar on this page on “account” and then on “Your Account” – it will tell you about your VMP membership, if still there, and when the next subscription payment will be, under payment settings.
Regarding the copy text, what about us West Coast folks? It’s not even Friday yet here, and that deal has been available for hours. If anything, we’re even more on top of things over here, if you ask me. No one did, but I don’t really care about that because I’m an entitled millennial. Now if you’ll excuse me (but also if you won’t), I’ll be over here enjoying this avocado sandwich at 11:30 on Thursday, having completed my Black Friday shopping.
@craigthom@sammydog01 about the only differences I can find is this supports a larger sd card (as if 256GB wasn’t enough) and its front facing camera is 2mp versus .3mp. Oh, and for some reason, the battery on the new isn’t rated as high…only 10 hours v 12 hours. Maybe Amazon took flack for saying the battery went for 12 hours.
@eeterrific I just read in a review-thing that the lessened battery life is largely due to the always-on Bezos Monitoring Feature (aka: Alexa). This thing has to be unlocked for Alexa to do your bidding, while the new version can be triggered at any time by the neighborhood kid screaming “Alexa!! Buy huge underpants!!!” through the window.
What a waste of a black friday. “Double the memory for new for $30 more on Amazon.” I see Meh is getting into the memory racket. I don’t love spending $30 for 50 cents of extra memory. There better be an Irk Plushie for Cyber Monday.
