Amazon Dash Button
2Holy balls this is insanely brilliant. I really think this will be a huge thing for Amazon. Kudos to continuing to get people who think of fantastic ideas.

Tl:DR - It's a little button that connects to your phone that you put near shit you go through all the time. When you start to get low, press the button and instant order
That would be awesome for many families, but I can only imagine the potential for financial disaster in a house with button-pushing kids.
@PurplePawprints Apparently I read it only works for the first push and you can set minimum ordering intervals. However, this seems April Foolish to me..
May or may not ne. I personally wouldn't want to use it.
@juststephen I'm so hoping it's that April 1 thing.
@juststephen Dammit. I completely forgot that April Fool's Day is tomorrow. Seems like I need to stay off the internet for the next 30+ hours. Also, I did read that about the 'first push only' thing, but if this were real, and you had enough of them around the house, the kids could still spend enough to get you in trouble. At least, they could here (not that my kids would do it) because our account often runs low toward the end of a pay period.
@PurplePawprints this doesn't register as a 4/1 prank to me. it's a completely reasonable product as far as technology and production goes, and it would let amazon into huge deals with brand names.
@PurplePawprints Ah, but there are fail safes built in. You automatically get an email telling you that you ordered, you can cancel from that email. Also, Amazon only recognizes the first button push, until your order arrives.
@juststephen As someone who works at Amazon, I assure you it is not an April fools day joke. As far as I know, Amazon has NEVER done an April Fool's Day joke. We are too customer centric for that; the chance of offending an alienating one or more customers isn't worth it.
@grum Well there is today's main page ... sort of. Also, there's some good irony in the 1-star review for this shirt.
@narfcake I stand corrected.
Now if they'd just make one for beer.
I thought Amazon already basically had this feature in app via barcode scanning. This seems somewhat redundant, but it is real. In fact, they'll be having devices order supplies for you . . . The Dash button is an extension of Amazon’s Dash Replenishment service, which will integrate wireless reordering connectivity into coffee machines, washing machines and other appliances.

Wasn't / isn't there a refrigerator that auto-magically generated a shopping list based on the weight of the container on the shelf in the door? You had to assign the item (milk, juice, etc.) and then as it was used it would alert you to replenish . . .
I'd rather something that just added it to my shopping list
@Foxborn You could probably do that with NFC tags. They've been mentioned here before, though I've done nothing with this knowledge since then: https://meh.com/forum/topics/cobra-joyride-smart-charger#54b0b73c8d3d7fb0074b36cd
I just wish they would make more things subscribe and save items. For example, my dog food
Need one for meh ... because clicking twice to order is too much work.

(In some cases, more because captcha is involved).
yeah I was mindblown when I saw dash buttons first, but now I'm just cursing my shitty life - which isn't on USA.
There will be launching of Amazon on South Korea soon and I'm just begging for amazon Prime and Dash buttons are available for Korea... I know that's bullshit. amazon will never do that.
This must be an April Fools joke. You'd need to pair these with bluetooth, and eliminate all convenience by doing so. You'd need your battery-draining bluetooth on all the time with your phone in range. Not a real product, unfortunately.
@ssiemonsma Not an April's fools joke - been reported in mainstream media for a couple days. If it is a joke they've got very reputable news outlets to play along.
@ssiemonsma Bluetooth only to setup the button. After that, it remains completely off until you click the button, at which time it will connect to your WiFi, send the single request to Amazon, then turn off.
The way prices fluctuate on Amazon on a daily (and sometimes hourly) basis, I would never use a device like this. I want to see current prices before I commit to purchasing something.
@cengland0 I think that the items supported for this service are items that Amazon either guarantees will be in stock or, if on the off chance that they aren't, Amazon would let the customer know before charging them. (Related, the list of Amazon Dash Button items: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=11267118011)
@grum It's not about if it's in stock or not. I don't want them charging me $20 for a container of Tide when I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere. Amazon does not always have the best prices and I like to do my due diligence before making purchases.
@cengland0 ... and that's exactly why they want folks to use this button. Like almost all retailers, Amazon would rather everyone just order more stuff without checking elsewhere.
@cengland0 Ah, I see. I just know that most of Amazon's price fluctuation occurs due to Amazon themselves running out of goods and automatically switching the displayed price to the next cheapest third-party sellers'. Amazon price fluctuation may still be an issue, I would imagine. I guess the dash button is for people who really don't give a shit about what they pay in the end, as long as it gets there. =P
@grum that has not been my experience. We have 5 pages of 'saved for later' items so refreshing the cart shows price changed items. Most price changes I see are for goods sold by Amazon. And, while the price changes are often by pennies, they can be very dramatic, like from $19 to $27 and back. I'd never price-blind-buy from Amazon.
Personally, I think this is one of the most ridiculous ideas I've ever seen. No wonder the rest of the world looks at America as being a bunch of lazy asses. Do any of you truly not have the time to place a normal order for your needed items?
@cinoclav You would think that but then again same could be said about having an amazon app on your phone. Personally I stopped caring what other people think of America. Let them be all judgey (is that a word?) If I was in Norway and someone asks "What do American's think of us?" My answer is ummm... I like Lillyhammer?
@StrangerDanger My answer would be, "Beautiful blondes."

You can now push a button to order condoms.
