@chienfou@shahnm the only time I actually use one is when I’m working on a vehicle. But I forget to set it up sometimes. Or… . I did not plan on being out there 8 hours but something went sideways. Gardening sounds like a good one. Everything else. Is to loud/mobile
@shahnm@unksol
I’m an avid music listener. I keep an old Fire tablet to run my Pandora streams to the wireless (not BT) speakers scattered throughout the house. If I work outside I keep a BT handy when gardening etc. If I am on the riding mower it’s wired or BT earbuds under my hearing protectors. Ditto if I am using the weedeater, hedge trimmer, leaf vac/blower, tiller etc. etc. I have wired speakers throughout the shop with an old hifi set-up for the radio. Also keep BT speakers out there in case I feel like a specific stream or artist. I keep a smallish one in my travel stuff to use in the hotel room/condo etc. There is almost always music playing around me somewhere/somehow!
Currently my hearing aids (from Costco) are BT capable so I can stream music directly into my head if I want.
Oh… did I mention I LOVE music…
@chienfou lol whatever works. I’m more whatever is on the radio and in the car. Sometimes at work I get a station running. I guess there is not technically a lot of quiet time to fill though
@MrNews not sure if this will sway you but here are reviews from Best Buy https://www.bestbuy.com/site/reviews/altec-lansing-porta-portable-bluetooth-speaker-black/6085500 …as always, worth noting that I am the buyer so I’m biased but I test a lot of bluetooth speakers as you can imagine at this job and I have actually been using the sample often. It’s not as good as the Libratone I have from meh (which I paid for just like the rest of you) but for $19, it’s a solid bluetooth speaker

@yakkoTDI, Can Ya Hear Me Now¿?
How many bluetooth speakers can you connect to at once?? Buy at least three of these.
Latex Lansig- what is this 2003?
So close but not a speaker dock
@unksol But it is a speaker, Doc.
/giphy What’s up, Doc?
@2many2no it’s a Bluetooth speaker not a speaker dock. You were here in 2014 you know the difference :p
/giphy contentious-aware-armadillo
@rcgrams at least it’s an animal I guess
A PORTABLE Bluetooth speaker…genius!
Another Bluetooth speaker to add to my collection! Just like my drawer full of battery chargers.
@robinlynna
These are not edible.
@shahnm
and they make really shitty margaritas.
@RogerWilco @shahnm
You took the words right out of @AttyVette’s parched lips.
Is that a speaker in your pocket, or are you really excited to see our new admiral?
Will it work with a Mac?
@talidal
Will it work with a Mac and cheese?
So wait, now we have speakers for Bluetooth pockets?
@mehcuda67
Ya beat me to it.
From the amazon product specs:
“…our portable speakers make for the perfect camping accessories or kayak accessories”.
@shahnm they are of course reaching for the
Certified IPX5 Water Resistant
Bit but I don’t want a speaker when I’m outside so…
@shahnm @unksol
That’s typically when I DO use one. Generally when I am working in the garden or around the shop when sweat makes earbuds a total fail.

@PooltoyWolf Snow! I’ll take it!
No 3.5mm analog input? No thanks.
@phr Photo #5 shows an AUX IN but you can’t see the type of jack.
@phr I stole this from someone else’s unboxed photos… not only does it have Aux-In, but it also looks like it includes the 3.5mm aux cable.
I can’t imagine ours are boxed differently, but full disclosure: I haven’t seen these before today and never in person.
@2many2no @phr The manual says, “You can also use the included 3.5mm AUX Cable to connect audio devices through the AUX In Port on your speaker.”
@ExtraMedium @phr Ours are boxed differently. These ones do not have the wall plug adapter included or the aux cable, but they have the aux port
@phr … same here. Manufacturers restored 3.5mm ports to phone design due to popular demand… hopefully speakers will follow suit.
@phr out of curiosity… why do you want the analog in? Are you plugging it into a phone or tablet?
USB charging port LOOKS like a micro-usb in the manual, but it could be a mini… definitely not USB-C.

@summetj It’s a micro-usb
Altec Lansing is another respected old brand that’s just a hollowed out corpse being used for a marketing shell these days.
Would you buy this if it were branded Infinity Lifestyle Brands?
@blaineg
So many old names are zombies now, just labels applied to random crap that washed up at a trade show in Xinhua (or wherever).
I believe Spark-O-Matic bought the name. Not quite a “Voice of the Theater”.
@lennypazz
Maybe not even “voice of the drive-thru”…

62% positive, 33% negative reviews on Gamerazon. Falls 26% below my minimum threshold for a Buy. Nnnerp!

We need more insider reviews like this from @mandirose!
What in God’s name is going on in this last picture. What are they trying to tell us?
@gaspingatstraws
Groping for “pretty fly, for a speaker”?
My tooth is already so blue it looks like I work in a Muffin factory.
almost https://knivesandspeakerdocks.com/
@connorbush lol that was my meh link for a long time till it went down. I hoped one day it would show in the x%came from list
For the daughter who keeps wanting to borrow my klipsch to take to the beach. Something less precious and more sturdy, hopefully.
This just looks incredibly ugly
Did the copy read ‘Lansing, Michigan’ for everyone, or just me, who is in Lansing, MI?
I like how you continued the Michigan theme by picking a Michigan singer. Such attention to detail!
This was the most Michigan description of a product I have ever read
Needed one to knock around, so hopefully this holds up for a little while
